Is one better than the other in terms of the condition/quality of books received? I have been ordering from IST for several years now and have had a great experience with them, but recently it seems their quality control has gone to crap! I just received 2 books from IST and both were damaged! The box itself was not dinged or crushed so this leads me to believe these were the condition of the books when they were picked for shipment. I have ordered hundreds of books over the years from IST and have had a great experience. This past year or so it seems I have been getting more and more books damaged that I have had to return for replacements. So, I am wondering if I should switch to ordering from CGN?? Or is there a better alternative? |

I've not ordered from IST but I have from CGN. CGN was fine. Trades arrived in great condition. Shipping could be slow but it wasn't a dealbreaker. | ||

IST uses the Amazon model: "Just send whatever book's next out of the box, and deal with any returns." It appears that they, like Amazon, would rather take a chance with you, the customer, than actually examine what they are sending beforehand. It slows things down to check, and that costs money. Cheaper to just deal with the returns. No concern that it disappoints a customer, you're just a number. Maybe as much as 20% that is sent is sub-standard in some way (corner ding, ripped open shrink wrap, scuffs, scrapes, scratches, etc.). But what % gets returned?? Of the 20% receiving these sub-standard books, half will not care, maybe not even notice. Almost another half will care, but look at the price, grumble a bit, and move on. The remaining % or two might have the initiative to return it. We have been trained to just accept what you get. All taught by Amazon, with very deep pockets. Toss it in a box, add an air pillow - NEXT! We'll eat it if they return it. Other companies don't have the deep pockets, so even though they are using Amazon's method, they push back on the returns because they really can't afford to keep replacing books. But they want it both ways - the cheap Amazon method, and no returns. |
