| @Darkseid_of_town Do you find the movies technically accurate? I know my brother films movies and gets so caught up in the technical aspects, that I wonder if he actually can sit down and enjoy a film for what it is anymore.... |

| You have a way of cutting right to the matter of things.... When I watch Jurassic park or other movies from that franchise, I see alot being done well as regards dinosaurs and alot being presented as as an agenda to advance the concepts considered in vogue at the time of the movies inception. They do alot wrong in the Jurassic park franchise that gives people erroneous ideas about dinosaurs however. For me its a matter of turning off the critical thinking, shoving the movie in and suspending the science side of things and just letting myself go with it....otherwise I would spend the entire movie in scientific lala land. By example...consider the first Jurassic park movie....some of the things that flash by as you watch, most would never catch about dinosaurs, but were intended to be messages if you will. Remember the scene where the raptor breathes on the window and it fogs over? Only warm blooded animals release moisture in their breathe ... The sauropods in the swamp at night when its cold and dark, still active. A warm blooded animal would have been resting..but they took it further. The dinosaur sneezed on the young girl...meaning it had a cold, but to get a "cold" you have to have warm blooded traits. When the raptors enter the kitchen they are on top of the tables and you see them "sniffing" and scenting...but reptiles and lizards do not scent like that, they use their tongues. Animals that sniff and scent as the raptors were portrayed are generally....warm blooded. there are mentions of the raptors running at extreme speeds, as well as the comment about clocking the t rex at so many miles per hour...hardly the metabolism of cold blooded animals. The movies are chock full of little messages and "easter eggs" being thrown about the scientific community The consulting paleo for the franchise has been Jack Horner...a paleo who has some notable disagreements with various others...mainly Dr Bakker. Horner has suggested t rex was a scavenger and did not utlize hunting skills well, whereas Bakker disagrees. In the Lost world, we have a consultant to INgen helping identify and round up the dinosaurs...a paleontologist who later gets eaten by the T rex....the man has a beard, and wears a straw hat....he is a pretty good caricature of Dr Bakker.....(Robert) After the movie aired, Dr Bakker, upon witnessing himself more or less being eaten by the t rex , phoned Jack horner, and said...see, they do hunt ! |

| For me, its a matter of suspending my disbelief, turning off the analytical, and just kicking back. If I did not I would constantly be yelling at the screen.... Ever notice how dinosaurs are almost always portrayed with the palms of their hands facing the ground? This position would be what is known as pronated...and was pretty much impossible for most dinosaurs to accomplish given primitive arm bone mechanics and the absence of elbow joints like humans posess. Correctly posed, most dinosaur hands should either be turned upwards, or in what would be the supinated position, or opposing , or facing one another, or even possibly slightly angled down, but never facing directly downwards. There are a handful of examples that break those laws of nature but they were the exceptions, to the rule |

| To me Jurassic park is just another monster movie, albeit a cool one. I never took anything from them seriously. Blockbuster movies can be great fun, but I always take what they present with a grain of salt. Movies need to be engaging an propel a story so concessions are often made for the sake of a better story. |

| Why beat around the bush when you can just say it? =) But seriously, it's good you can suspend belief to enjoy the film. While I dont think I've seen all the Jurrassic films, the ones I have seen have been enjoyable enough. I think the biggest thing they bring to the table is the imagination of what was possible. Sometimes reality is scarier than science fiction. |

| Much of the "science" you see in jurassic park would never fly....they found a way to clone dinosaurs, yes, but they sidestepped the entire concept...suppose the air doesnt contain the same percentage oxygen as it did in the Jurassic..(which it does not) ..what if there are new bacterias or diseases these dinosaurs would have zero immunity to? what if the dinosaurs themselves require plants or even other fauna no longer present in our modern world.... We know that there were far more agressive species of dung beatles that consumed much of the ....left over by products ...that todays environment would strain to handle. It has been speculated the massive sauropods might have had a host relationship with smaller pterosaurs that lived on their backs, consuming bacteria, mold and such that would tend to accumulate there. Koala bears consume only eucalyptus tree leaves for instance...and would be extinct if it were not for mankinds propping the species up for the last several decades...what if other organisms shared this one on one relationship...and once they cloned the dinosaurs the only food some would eat isnt present in our world? Gynosperms were the dominant plant life during the mesozoic, so in todays modern world of angieosperms, may well starve to death |

| The Jurassic Park franchise is very engaging. Seen back to back the series still manages to hold together well in spite of uneven directorial efforts and occasional continuity gaffs (even Stephen Spielberg had continuity lapses). This is a great binge watch too. The late Michael Crichton would be amazed by the continued success of the film franchise and evolution of Jurassic Park. Anyway, it’s good to know there’s another JP tale in the pipe. Popcorn is being readied. . |

| The best time I had was at the Jurassic World movie. We had taken our son to Drumheller to hit the Dinosaur museum when the movie came out. It was an old 1970's theater but I swear everyone in there was employed by dinos in some way or anohter - was electric and lots of cheers when different dino's would make appearances!! We even got to make plaster casts of fossils!! They had these fun dinosaurs sprinkled through town in Motor bikes with side cars and others like this fun guy waiting for the bus!! ![]() ![]() |

Something I forgot to talk about....these are eggs, dinosaur eggs. There are four species represented, and the flattened piece is a section from a North American hadrosaurid egg as well. I have yet to find a museum in the state of Kansas that has four species of egg, and which are not replicas![]() |

Quote:Originally Posted by KeepItClunky Different strokes, I guess. My wife and I liked Fallen Kingdom much better than Jurassic World. With the exception of reliance on too much precious coincidence in escaping the volcanic eruption and the forced drama surrounding capture by typical ruthless mercenaries (Ruth must’ve gotten away) it was a solid, well developed plot with strong characters and excellent FX. The problem with Jurassic World was it’s reliance on misogynistic tropes that were borderline offensive. Of course, this may have been a script problem more than a directorial one, but the film is what it is. Yeah, the dinosaur FX were cool ...as they typically are for every film in this series... but the story and character development was colder than reptilian blood. Quote: Originally Posted by Darkseid_of_town There was definitely a difference in directorial style. Personally, I liked Juan Bayona’s directorial approach to the series. It was a solid script and the actors brought just the right level of gravitas to their roles. Kingdom didn’t fare as well with the Rotten Tomatoes polling, but the film’s Box Office Numbers were in the right ballpark. Jurassic World took in $1.67 Billion worldwide as opposed to Fallen Kingdom’s $1.3 Billion. Numbers like that suggest lots of folks are ready to queue up for more, ...as Long as it isn’t double-featured with anything resembling the Andromeda Strain (Michael Crichton’s cautionary tale about the risks of a global pandemic). . |

This sits on my desk. It is a Meg tooth that is embedded in a vertebra. At least that's what I was told it was embedded in. A relative gave me this. The tooth is real and the vertebra is real. Disclaimer - I believe that they were put together by man though. Makes for great conversations though.![]() |
