Ebay- one to watch out for...12388

Collector Enelson private msg quote post Address this user
I am in the midst of some form of attempted f*ckery regarding an item i recently sold to this fine upstanding citizen

He recently purchased this book from me with a best offer...

The starting price was $199(a little high, but i recently watched Hamilton and im trying not to miss my shot)

There were offers and counteroffers

We settled at 160...he sent me a separate message thanking me

I shipped it, he had it in 3 days.

Yesterday I get this-

So I sought clarification (sidebar- even though i stated i dont take returns in listing, I almost always will)

Heres the exchange-

After I declined- it said case closed and he left me negative feedback(my 1st in a decade(s) )
I was irked so i tried to examine his page and history...1st of all...he doesnt take returns either

Then the final plot twist...he has this for sale on his page...

So i dont know if he was just trying to upgrade, if he was going to crack and press, or if he was going to try to swap out my book...but something was fishy and now i am waiting to see if a case gets opened

But i don't see how he can claim he ordered by mistake when he is selling the same thing

I hate ebay

This is Bull%&$t! I wish eBay's customer service wasn't so inept. It would be worth a call. Well I say we should buy everything this guy is selling and return so he knows how it feels to eat shipping charges. I'm fuming and it wasn't even my transaction. Feel for you man. Either way I'm blocking this guy. Thanks for sharing.

I refused the return, I'm still waiting to see if ebay makes me...I've just been screenshotting everything and gathering intel- lol.

you can call ebay and have them remove the negative feedback. you should try to do it.

Since all buyers are protected with eBay's buyer protection, I was informed you should indicate free returns on your listings which will give you a stronger foothold with eBay when disputing crap like this.

Ebay buyer protection only kicks in if there is something wrong with the product. In this case buyer has clearly indicated that there is nothing wrong with the purchase.

Ok, I was wondering if maybe I was somehow in the clear because I hadn't heard anything else yet... the return case shows "closed"

Ok, I'll try- however I just called the customer service number and all it did was tell me to go to website...also I tried to submit a removal and they denied it

Can someone post the number here too, maybe I called wrong one, or they weren't there yet

He may open a new case indicating some issues with the purchase - that is basically what buyer is referring to when he brings up the ebay protection

How do you block someone? Do you have to have an ebay store? I do not.

No need for a store.

Simplest way is to click "Help and Contact" at the top of the main eBay page. Takes you to Customer Service. There's a huge search bar at the top of the page. Just enter "block buyer" and the first result is a big blue button that reads "Block a Buyer."

Follow instructions from there.

I know how to do it from a desktop, not sure about mobile. Anyway, on the home page at the top, click on 'Help & Contact'. On the next page just type 'block' into the search bar and it should take you right where you need to go.

The good news is that the buyer has done a nice job already of documenting his true reasons in written communication.

I'm not gonna block him. I'm going to contact him and ask if he would accept $160 for his raw copy. When he response yes, then maybe I will block him and leave him with a strange story of his own to tell on forums.

Actually if you have returns accepted active in your listings you have pretty much no chance of fighting a return request.

I had a lady a while back buy something from me and a couple days after she received it I get a return request. In the notes she says she changed her mind and didn't want it anymore. So I say hell no, refuse it, and then she escalates it to a return case through ebay.
I call customer service and they tell me that since I had "Returns Accepted" active on that listing I had no choice but to accept the return. Doesn't matter what the reason is they said. What a bunch of crap!!

Needless to say I have "Seller Does Not Accept Returns" active on all of my listings now.

I thought @Enelson was hothead_comics?

Edit, Later:
Okay, nevermind ... the first pic messed me up because it said "hothead_comics" was a seller, and I thought it meant, they were THE seller in THIS transaction.

I have it figured out now though

Couple lessons I see here: 1) have a very good reason for offering a return policy, and charge shipping separately if you do, 2) In a dispute situation try to get the other side to spill their guts in written communication. Years ago someone taught me that documentation is everything in disputes...the side with the best documentation usually gets the resolution in their favor.

I have never advertised a return policy, in 20 years and I have never encountered such a strange return reason. I dont know if I should have advertised offering returns or not. I just dont think I should have to refund a guy that I think was up to something. I almost always will work with people under normal circumstances. Damages happen, losses happen. This was a different thing, and it worked out in my favor this time in the end...at least for now.

I am of the same opinion when a buyer for a CGC 9.8 book wanted to give it back because for him the comic was not a 9.8. I didn't accept the return and ebay forced it on me and had me pay fees for refusing the return. bummer
