Hello everybody. I have made my list on my first 5 comics to send it for grading (mostly on sentimental value) but I have two comics I cannot decide if it is worth it sending for grading. Attached are 3 pictures of them and a question are as follow: 1: Seeing the quality of New Mutants 100 what do you say an estimated grading would be? The cover is beautiful but the interior is strange ... off white pages in my opinion and a little bit transparent so I got some print marks. 2: Batman 608 2nd printing - I think the book is in good condition but it has spine taping (it can be seen in the picture). What will it be the grading with this spine taping? Is it worth sending in for grading with that spine taping? I don't think I can remove the taping without damaging the spine. |

I wouldn't grade either. Just put them in a top loader.

Agreed. The New Mutants 100 looks like a 7.0, which is pretty rough for a modern. |

While I certainly understand having books with sentimental value, I wouldn't be so moved as to submit the above two for grading.

Thank you guys. So that will be a no go for the New Mutants 100 But what about the Batman 608 2nd printing? That is probably a no go too, but how much does it brings down the grading that spine taping? I'm curious about this one, because I have a few other key issues that I would want to send to grading but all are taped (this is how I got them, I didn't do this monstrosity) |

Right now, without the taping I would say that book is somewhere over the 8.0 region.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. | xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
You might get up into the VG range but it's probably a GD, I would guess, with tape on the whole spine https://www.cbcscomics.com/comics-grading-scale

If you're wondering whether or not both comics are going to be worth more in the future if they're slabbed, the answer is no (possibly the New Mutants could be sold for slightly more than the cover price, but not much more with all those color breaks on the spine and the fold in the lower right corner). If you're looking to slab both because of the sentimental value, then ask yourself if it's worth all the costs: shipping the books to CBCS, paying for the grading/slabbing, paying the FedEx fee to have them shipped back. It's a lot more than just the slabbing cost, so just be honest with yourself. A top loader is a smart solution and it'll cost a fraction of the price for slabbing these two books. If they really mean that much to you, and you want to preserve them indefinitely with no hope of getting a cash windfall, then pull the trigger and have them slabbed.

Thank you for your opinions. I will not slab the two books, you are all right. I will go with the original list I have planned, those I will do for the sentimental value (Stan Lee signature on a 50 year old Stan Lee book, Ian Churchill signature on my favorite Supergirl book, Peter Milligan signed Red Lanterns, my favorite McFarlane cover and the first Hope Summers) that I own those and that's it. In the future when I will get some more signatures from my favorite writers I will send them in.
