Has there ever been a 10 grading from CBCS?12366

Is such a thing even possible or would even grading a 10 steal its perfection. Do think a read somewhere? a ten is not a thing - it doesn't exist. But just checking for the hell of it...

"10" is a fake grade made up by third party grading companies to create a "Lottery effect" to entice people to submit more books chasing it. Sure they throw a few out here and there, but For all the obvious reasons they have to keep the population super low in order to keep the "Lottery Effect" in play.

That Deathmate is the Preview that came with the Capital Cities Advance comics order catalog. It was floppy like a regular comic.

uuuhh no. The definition of 10 is reasonable. It is a lottery in the fact that it’s rare to Get a “perfect” copy. A comic book in exceptional condition Free of Any Minute printing/binding “Defects” Needs its own definition.

I think by your logic A 9.8 should be a 10? So 9.8 with a slight miswrap Or off center staple is Still a 9.8? Wait.. is that the same thing as “3rd party definitions” or are we talking about just shifting all grades a point up? Wasn’t Comic book grading around before 3rd party graders? This is one hell of a conspiracy; we need to call Jason Bourne and get this straightened out.

Definitions by OverStreet who is not a 3rd party grading company who’s guidelines are similar to the Basis of grading for 3rd party grading companies

10.0 GEM MINT (GM): An exceptional example of a given book - the best ever seen. Only the slightest bindery or printing defects are allowed. (Not with most grading services though, perfect means perfect.) Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp. Spine is tight and flat. Staples must be original, centered and clean with no rust. Paper is white supple and fresh. No interior autographs or owner signatures. Personal note: Many modern comics (1990s-up, and some earlier special issues) are printed edge-to-edge with color or images, so they aren't on white pages to begin with, and there's no white borders. So fading is about the only way to tell degradation. But they will still get a 'white pages' notation on the pro-graded labels.

9.9 MINT (MT): Near perfect in every way. Only subtle bindery or printing defects are allowed. ("Subtle" as in nearly invisible, and grading companies may not allow it for their 9.9 either.) Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and minimal fading. Corners are cut square and sharp. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Spine is tight and flat. Staples must be original, generally centered and clean with no rust. Paper is white, supple and fresh. Personal note: Back cover stamps/writing is less 'offensive' to most collectors, but most collectors don't like them on the front, so comics with front cover stamps/writing usually fetch lower prices for the same grade, and many dealers will downgrade a bit for such stamps/writing. To me, this applies to most grades of 9.2 or above, others may consider a wider or smaller range.

9.8 NEAR MINT/MINT (NM/MT): Nearly perfect in every way with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Only subtle bindery or printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Only the slightest interior tears are allowed.

that’s just OverStreets definition (this is where subjectivity comes in). Reasonably CBCS would very Strict on grading 9.9 & 10. Perfect is perfect and slightly less than perfect is 9.9/9.8.

Let’s say you take a 10 grade from the slab and resubmit it. The probability of it getting the same grade is slim at best. I’ve always thought it was kind of a fake grade.

I wonder how many 9.8 resubs would come back 9.6?

Is it slim because the time between de-slabbing a 10, packaging it up, mailing it to Florida/Texas, unpackaging it and putting it in a graders hands can add defects?

I always felt super high grades, when found, are easier to spot...they're the ones without any defects.

It's actually not that hard, ...you just send in two 5.0 grade books.

I don't think a grade of 10 should ever be given to a comic book. I am sure there are plenty of comics graded at 9.8 that some would consider to be a 10, but why strive to be that anally retentive?? It's amazing how we went from grading comics as Fine or better condition to talking about a perfect 10.

IMO, a 10.0 is nothing more than a Lottery Win for bragging rights.

And not meaning to derail the thread, and just a simple harmless question.... What are the top 10 most valuable 10.0's on the market today?.. or should this question have it's own thread?
