The Uncanny X-Men 266 First Appearance of Gambit issue Cover and Page Error12355

Collector shocann private msg quote post Address this user

So I finally cracked this open today. So this looks rare to me but I wanted to get a second opinion. First is this worth even grading. So here's the deal the front cover is miscut with white still on the borders, the top has the print run on the top of the pages and when you open it is uncut. Has 2 groups of pages uncut so it is like two pages. I have never seen this ever.

Is this extremely rare or a poorly graded x-men comic.

It’s poorly cut from the printer; these usually are minimal deductions when the pages and cover are the correct size.

This was graded? What was it graded at and by whom?

Not graded yet sorry for the confusion, just was wondering if the grade on this would be bad since the pages aren't cut. Cyrano thanks for the answer.

Would this comic be considered rarer than a regular copy or is this considered a bad defect in the comic world?

Would the error/defect be reflected on the graded slab as well? Can CBCS grade this with all this being said? I read some bad defects a comic wouldn't be graded and sent back.

Sorry for the questions. I am new to grading and found out CBCS is not too far from where I live.

@shocann - Welcome to the CBCS forums. Your comic has a production problem or error, it was badly miscut, resulting in what’s called Siamese pages - pages joined at one side. It is a manufacturing error, so it is not too common. It is also not as desirable as a double cover error. Do not separate/cut the pages apart or it will affect the grade if you get it graded. The error would be noted on the slab, so it may appeal to some error collectors.

If you want to sell it I’m interested.

@shocann no issue issue getting it graded. miscuts are common print errors. If there is “ too much” over hang CBCS will not encapsulate it since the encapsulation process could damage the book. That said; it could still be “Raw” graded If it cannot be encapsulated.

Esaravo thank you for the welcome and the answers to my questions. This makes sense now. I think I will get it pressed and graded knowing this thank you.

Zombie_Head - I don't have this graded yet. PM me a price of what you were thinking.

As a collector who doesn’t deal with error books, my first thought is the miscut doesn’t detract from the aesthetic of the cover art, and since it’ll be slabbed, I’m not concerned about the readability of partially uncut pages; just that they are all present.

If I were in the market for 1 of gambit’s 1st appearances I wouldn’t be afraid of yours, but wouldn’t pay a premium either. I like that it’s a newsstand edition.

Thank you Joosh for you input. Yes, it is newsstand. I think my dad and I got this at the mall at a comic shop or book store in 1990.

+1 (& popcorn)

But like Hulk 181, this is the comic that gets the demand.
I like errors, but don't have any like this- Cool item.

Unless it has changed, CBCS notes them like this:

As for errors, the only that I have that I’m aware of is this really bad miscut on Witchblade vs Darkness 1/2. It affects the readability but it is kind of neat to see the registration marks and stuff

Thank you guys this has been very informative. So does CBCS do drop off's at there Dallas office?

Are there delays due to Covid right now? I would really like to grade it but I'm scared my comics going be in limbo for a while.

If you use CBCS pressing it will take months to get back they are back logged. I recommend pressing before it gets grading.

Not that it matters practically speaking, but the pressing backlog is not due to COVID. Grading is at normal speed. The only COVID issues you might have are with shipping time.

I like those notations! MUCH better than CGC's lame "cameo" notation, because that's a detailed, multi-paged, multi-paneled "cameo".

I just submitted my comic for grading today. A long line at the Dallas location. Very professional. Can't wait to see what they say.
