Who's your favorite least popular superhero (or Villian)?12343

I always seem to have a tendency to like heroes that aren't popular. By far probably the least popular of them is Darkhawk. I also liked Moon Knight who wasn't that popular at different times. As for villains I loved Mr. Mxyzptlk, ever since I saw him in the old Superman cartoons I've been buying any comic he was in. Anyone else have some unpopular characters that they absolutely loved? |

It's been a while since I read the storyline, but the issue or issues that introduced Vermin (in Captain America volume 1) really made me like him. I'm not sure which side of the fence he falls on, hero or villain, but it made an impression on me!!!!

I just checked. Both Cap #272 and the storyline you referred to in Spectacular Spider-Man were written by J.M. Dematteis. He wrote some great storylines!!!!

The Hawkeyes. I haven't actually read much of Clint in the Avengers so I'm thinking mostly of how he's written in his more recent series and in Kate Bishop's.

I was always a really big Savage Dragon fan. My current favorite villain by far is Tobias Whale played by Marvin 'Krondon' Jones on Black Lightning. If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't be watching the show. |

The character may be unpopular because he isn't known outside of Transformers and never had a toy in the US until 2012 or ever appeared in a cartoon made for the US until 2018, but Overlord is underrated as a villain. Last Stand of the Wreckers and More than Meets the Eye #14-15 just establish the character as bat shit crazy, yet still cunning and with the psychological weakness that he has never been able to best Megatron. As for a hero, hell I don't know. Maybe Dakota North or Lynn Michaels when she took over for Punisher for a handful of issues. It's kinda like pro wrestling. Heroes are cool and all, but it takes solid villains to make the heroes really look good. |

I've always enjoyed Mark Shaw as Manhunter in the first 4 issues of the 1988 series. Dumas was a very interesting villain. Sam Kieth was the inker on the first 3 issues. My interest in the character faded after the first four issues but those issues and that story really stuck with me.

Has anyone ever heard of "The Epiphany"? It's like an underground one-off that I thumbed through in a waiting room some time ago. Never heard of it again. It riffed on the whole inspiration and creativity thing, I think his mortal enemy was something like "Writer's Block"

For heroes I would say Grifter who peaked in the 90s. He had a cool look and a back story (Team 7)that had some similarities to the Weapon X program. Unfortunately DC doesn't know what to do with Wildstorm. Grifter is however coming back in Batman 101. I'd also go with off again on again X-men friend (hero) and foe (villian), the Mimic. |

When I was a kid, a friend of the family gave me a handful of old comics from the 1950's, they included a few Quality Comics, Fiction House, Lev Gleason, and other publishers that I wasn't familiar with. I loved Plastic Man, Doll Man, Blackhawk, and the Spirit. The covers were amazing, the art was great, and the story were fun and exciting. It's too bad the Spirit movie was written so poorly. What a waste of an all-star cast. He's an interesting character with a rogues gallery of gorgeous femme fatales to boot.

I also enjoyed Mother Night and the Sisters of Sin. They fought against Cap and were affiliated with the Red Skull. Maybe if Warrior Nun really takes off, Marvel will put them in movies (yeah, right).![]() ![]() |

I’m going Anti Hero with Terror. Eternal entity who can assimilate body parts and gains memories, skills and abilities from “donors”. A solid concept that could have had a more ambitious story line. If tweaked a bit or introduced into a more popular series like Ghost Rider, Captain America, Or Deadpool as a reoccurring foe/ally; I think Terror would have done well and may have been more received. The MAX reboot was ok and there were a few mini series, but I would have liked to see Terror in a more concrete roll. ![]() |
