Why certain paint pens are not good for sigs123

Here is an example of certain types of paint pens that transfer over to the bag, Mylar or holder well after being signed. The silver and white pens are the worst. Many of you who have had Todd McFarlane use a white pen know what I am talking about. I have complete signatures that transferred over to the bag the book was shipped to me in.

Below is an image of a signature partially transferring over to the inside of a top loader.

Holy crap!

The lady at the Library of Congress said that Sharpies could eventually eat through the paper, but I never though about the ink/paint lifting right off.

A few days or even weeks. Heck, I crack out SS books all the time and even then I see some transfer to the inner well and that may be months/years after the fact. The paint has a "gummy" feel to it and does not dry or get absorbed into the paper like an ink pen or sharpie does.

Even sharpies are not the best for signatures because they are not acid free. Granted, it will take a very long time to eat through and discolor the paper but they still will eventually. The best signing pens are permanent, acid-free markers. I really like the Bic Mark-It pens; you can get them in all colors, even metallic and they are totally acid free.

Learned something new. In your opinion, are they absorbed into the paper or does the ink/marker sit on top?

I'm honestly not sure, although I would assume that any permanent marker probably absorbs into the paper at least a little bit. That's usually why you get bleed through when using a permanent marker on a sticky note pad.
