#370 has the X-Men realize that when they left the other dimension they not only ended up on a Skrull planet, they ended up on a Skrull moon in the past - right before Galactus eats the homeworld. They try to get word out but the Skrulls think it's a trap, so they start attacking in the shapes of the Starjammers and Imperial Guard (hence the cover, I guess). Gambit also has to fight off Skrulls as he tries to find a doctor for Marrow, who was injured in the other-dimension shenanigans. Time shows the X-Men to be right as Nova shows up and starts destroying Skrull ships to prepare for Galactus' arrival. |

#470 follows on Rachel sneaking out of the mansion. She's gone to Chicago to see a psychiatrist that Kitty recommended to talk about the Shi'Ar killing her family. Bishop gets actual permission to leave the mansion (should you have to ask permission to leave a place if you're just "under protection"?) to make sure the Death Commandos are still locked up. He meets X-acquaintance Detective Charlotte Jones and they get to the facility just in time to see that the commandos have gotten loose. They fight but the commandos grab Jones and teleport to Chicago. Nightcrawler is basically already there to pick Bishop up in the Blackbird because Val Cooper realized that Rachel was gone. In Chicago, just as Rachel realizes how angry she is at the Shi'Ar, the commandos show up to attack her. |

3rd series #6, Legacy #570. Dormammu has pulled everyone into Limbo and takes control of Magik while Mindless Ones attack the rest of the team. Things look bad until Emma has the three Cuckoos make the new kids feel extra brave, and they turn the tide to an even fight. Elsewhere, Maria Hill interviews Dazzler about being an agent of SHIELD in their new mutant response team. Elsewhere elsewhere, we meet a new mutant who can control vehicles, or at least his girlfriend's car. |

#171 is well-known for having Rogue join the team, but it also features Magik's first generation of her soul sword. Rogue comes to the mansion asking for help with her powers and having Carol Danvers' personality in her head. The X-Men are understandably pissed so Xavier sends them to the Danger Room to burn off some steam; Illyana uses a Limbo simulation which sets her off and leads to her generating the sword. Xavier decides to let Rogue join the school and the team, which goes over worse when Binary Carol shows up. Everyone eventually settles down after Xavier reminds them of the purpose of the school, except for Storm (new leader of the Morlocks, lest we forget). In Alaska, Cyclops finds out that Madelyne was the sole survivor of a plane crash that happened the day Jean died. a newsstand  |

#271 is already three issues further into the X-Tinction Agenda. Storm is captured when trying to kidnap the Genegineer, David Moreau. Wolverine, Psylocke, and Jubilee finally get out of Asia and into Genosha, just in time to save Rictor and Boom-Boom from being recaptured. Wolvie and Psylocke try to sneak into Genosha Central but Havok sells them out to Cameron Hodge, who beats them up. While there they see that Storm has been turned into a Mutate. a newsstand  I have a 9.8 on the way from MCS. If it happens to make it in time I'll update the post. |

#371's story is actually called 'Rage Against the Machine'. It starts by filling in what happened on the Skrull moon - Xavier was unable to convince Galactus to not eat the Homeworld, and Kitty found a way to get them back to Earth at the right time. They actually got back a little before they left, in time to potentially save Joseph in the fight against Magneto, but something stopped them before they could get in the atmosphere. Xavier is having bad dreams about his failures and those that have died. On the other hand, Marrow's medical procedure worked and she also looks nicer to boot because her bones aren't growing out of her body when she doesn't want them to. The team lands at Muir Island but Xavier wants to get back home and to work. Kitty, Colossus, and Nightcrawler stay to do some Excalibur catching-up. In between scenes, we find out that SHIELD has captured Machine Man and want to use him for parts to repair Deathlok. On Muir, some SHIELD agents land but are attacked by Douglock, who lets out a roar that Kitty hears even across the island. |

#471 is largely a battle issue as the Shi'Ar Death Commandos have come to Chicago for Rachel. With an assist from Bishop, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Cannonball, and a ONE Sentinel, Rachel comes out on top. They even stop the Shi'Ar ship from firing broadly on Chicago. In Africa, Wolverine and Storm find that someone is raising a child army and seems especially interested in mutants. |

3rd series #7, Legacy #571. Picking up on the battle in Limbo, things are going badly for the X-Men. The Mindless Ones have turned the tide again and are about to win, when Illyana finally gets loose from Dormammu. She sends the rest of the team back to Earth and then brings all of Limbo inside her. We hear this as a story that Illyana is telling Dr. Strange at the Sanctum Santorum. Since her powers are broken, she asks him to train her in magic. |

#172 picks up after the original Wolverine mini-series as the team flies to Japan for his wedding. Wolvie is surprised because all he does is leave the country and get engaged and suddenly Rogue is on the team. It turns out for the best though as Viper poisons everyone except for Storm, and Rogue recovers quickly because of her stolen alien metabolism. Storm and Yukio go after Silver Samurai, Viper, and crimelord Nabatone but have to run away when Storm's powers go out of control. Wolverine and Rogue set off from the hospital to find the Samurai. |

#272 is another couple issues later into the X-Tinction Agenda. Looks like Storm is all grown up again! But first the captured X-Men are on trial, where they chose death over becoming mutates. Hodge makes Wolverine and Archangel fight, and Psylocke takes the opportunity to escape. The Genegineer and Chief Magistrate Anderson start their own plans, having decided that Hodge has gone off the deep end. Hodge murders Wipeout and frames (still Magistrate) Havok. When Gambit picks his locks and helps the others get loose, Storm hits Cyclops with lightning and is suddenly reverted into an adult, free of being a Mutate. the less nice copy  |

#372 has Xavier being a jerk by basically training the team into the ground right after their extra-dimensional and Skrull-fighting jaunt. The team talks about leaving the school. We also get the first appearance of the Mannites, although mystery abounds. We're also reminded that Bishop and Deathbird are still bumming around space together. |

#472 dares to ask... guess who's Bach(alo)? An otherwise quiet day is interrupted when Jamie Braddock shows up at the mansion. He easily fends off ONE and the team. Uatu the Watcher is even there to witness what's going on. Jamie says that he brought Betsy back to life to be a weapon against the the FourSaken, but is pulled into a portal before he can say who or what that is.  |

3rd series #8, Legacy #572 continues the Bachalaissance. The team takes Fabio Medina (Goldballs) back home, not knowing that SHIELD is watching the house. After going back to the school, Cyclops and Magneto have a big chat about SHIELD and how Magneto thinks that Cyclops thinks that Magneto is going to betray everyone, but Cyclops just wants to talk about how to train the kids better. The rest of the team rescues David Bond, the mutant who can control vehicles, from the police. Back at Fabio's house, his family doesn't believe that he is a mutant and was with the X-Men until he shows them his power. Dazzler walks in and says that SHIELD wants to know where Cyclops is. |

#173 continues the story of the team being in Japan for Wolverine and Mariko's wedding. Wolverine and Rogue have healed up from being poisoned and are working their way through goons until they find the crimelord Nabatone - but he's dead and has been for a week. Realizing that the guy they saw before was an imposter, they figure that Silver Samurai and Viper might be attacking the hospital. Indeed they are, and while Rogue clears out Viper and some ninjas, Wolverine defeats the Samurai. Mariko asks Wolvie to let her half-brother live, and Viper returns to help the Samurai anyway. Rogue takes a shot from Viper's ray gun and is badly injured so Wolverine lets her take his healing factor while Viper and Samurai escape. While all this has been going on, Storm has been running around fighting off muggers with Yukio. Come the day of the wedding, we see that Mastermind has met with Mariko. Storm has also gone punk, debuting her leather and mohawk look. At the altar, Mariko calls off the wedding and calls Logan unworthy. the not-newsstand edition  I like this cover, so I had a local guy do a homage with X-23's sister Gabby and their wolverine friend Jonathan. Doing a google search, it looks like I'm not the only one who had this idea and my dude maybe copied something that already exists. It still looks cool.  |

#273 is post X-Tinction Agenda but all of the X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force are still hanging out at the mansion. It's mostly a relationship check-in; we get stuff like Cable trying to convince Storm, Cyclops, and Jean that they should go on the offensive more often, and Iceman getting in a prank war with Boom-Boom. Plot-wise, we have Wolfsbane still stuck as a Mutate, Gambit and Wolverine having a semi-unfriendly sparring session, Banshee chatting with Moira but not realizing she's possessed by Shadow King, and Jean running into the Shadow King on the Astral plane but not realizing who it is. The issue ends with Lila Cheney and Guido (Strong Guy) teleporting in, reminding us that Xavier is in danger, and then teleporting the team away. this isn't my favorite cover or anything, but it seemed weird to go for a Jim Lee 9.8 run and leave it out.  the newsstand  |

#373 picks up with Colossus and Marrow after the previous issue and X-Men 92. Xavier has basically disowned the X-Men and kicked them out of the mansion. Deathbird turned on Bishop and he seems to have woken up in Nevada. In this issue, Colossus and Marrow are in Boston so he can show her an art exhibit that he thinks will inspire her. Marrow has been working on controlling her bone growth and initially gets herself looking normal enough to go the exhibit, but relaxes once there and freaks out the guy talking to her. Finding Colossus, both of them are grabbed by Mikhail Rasputin and transported off somewhere, where he tells them that they can remake the world and have Illyana back. In Egypt, Deathbird tells a bunch of cult-types that a bargain has been struck and soon they will have back their Monolith. |

Speaking of people getting pulled into portals, #473 picks up after Jamie Braddock did that last issue. Asked about the FourSaken, Psylocke says that it was Jamie and three of his friends. The Watcher continues the exposition (which seems a bit more active than watching) to tell them about an entity called the First Fallen who is kind of an opposite to the Phoenix. The FourSaken are like his horsemen. Suddenly, weird crap starts going down with flying salamander-type things appearing and taking people's souls. The souls are collected in a bowl and the team is attacked by two of the FourSaken, who capture everyone except for Psylocke. Apparently Jamie made her invisible to the other FourSaken, so she's able to destroy the bowl and stop them from summoning the First Fallen. Instead, everyone gets pulled into the portal that he was going to come through. |

3rd series #9, Legacy #573. Dazzler takes Goldballs to the helicarrier to ask about Cyclops. Back at the 'school', Cyclops is trying to convince David about the importance of training and has him take control of the jet. He also gets the name Hijack. Magneto sees a news report of mutant stuff in San Diego and the team realizes that something might have gone on with Goldballs. The team teleports to the helicarrier, teleports Maria Hill elsewhere, and Tempus time-freezes the other SHIELD agents. They're surprised to see Dazzler in the interrogation room though, and neither Cyclops nor Dazzler can understand what the other is doing. The team leaves with Goldballs. Later, Dazzler gets drugged by who she thought was another SHIELD agent but is actually Mystique. It sounds like Mystique has plans for Dazzler. |

| Yeah, maybe (especially?) since I wasn't reading them at the time, this run in the 400s strikes me as a bit much. Although I was never big on the inter-dimensional stuff anyway. It should, sooner or later, get to a Shi'Ar storyline that I liked as a trade though. | ||

#174 has Cyclops take Madelyne on the Starjammer to meet his dad and see how cool space is. Carol Danvers (as Binary) is there too, joining the team because space is awesome. Scott, despite his questions and misgivings about Madelyne and how similar she is to Jean/Phoenix, proposes. Kitty learns how to phase with someone else for the first time, practicing with Colossus. Cyclops and Madelyne return to earth but Mastermind is there to trigger Scott worrying about Phoenix again. He asks Madelyne directly if she's Jean reborn and Madelyne punches him. When he pulls himself together Madelyne is gone but he gets blasted by the Dark Phoenix. |

#274 features fan-favorite Savage Land Rogue. She and Magneto are getting closer since he helped her end the fight with Carol Danvers but her powers aren't right; she can't absorb anything and she's only a little strong. This is bad because Zaladane and the Savage Land Mutates are up to stuff; Zaladane has built towers that put her in synch with the Earth's magnetic field and her power is causing trouble, like earthquakes in Argentina. Nick Fury and SHIELD have come, and Magneto and Rogue have teamed up with Ka-Zar, but they aren't having much success. Lila Cheney took the X-Men to Shi'Ar space where the danger to Xavier is apparently Deathbird, because she immediately captures them and demands that they kill Prof. X. a not-bad newsstand  |

#374 has Colossus and Marrow in Mikhail's world. Marrow sees some replays of her life there, where Mikhail had people fight their way to the top of a hill to prove their worth. She realizes that she was giving away the good parts of herself for the approval of a madman. Mikhail wants to create a new Illyana and have Colossus provide her essence or soul, but they fight when Colossus refuses. During the fight something comes out of Mikhail, and Colossus realizes it must have been living in Mikhail and influencing him for a long time. He convinces Mikhail to come back with them and the three teleport back to Boston. In Egypt, Deathbird delivers the Monolith's sarcophagus to Apocalypse, fulfilling her end of some deal. Apocalypse apparently doesn't believe in deals because he blasts her and sends her off for conversion. |

#474 wraps up the FourSaken story. Pulled to the First Fallen's world, in a place called the Singing City, Psylocke realizes that there are people from many worlds there but never more than four from a single one. Also, no one's powers work except for Psylocke. She psi-blades the First Fallen, which snaps some control in him. All the people are loose from the mind control that kept them in a blissful stupor and the X-Men have their powers again. The First Fallen also turns out to be a king from long ago who was possessed by something. Asking to die, the king is killed by one of the FourSaken but this allows the essence to regroup. Jamie Braddock sends everyone back home to fight the essence himself. While taking in the fact that Jamie sacrificed himself to save the world, the team gets a call from Storm, who needs help with a situation in Kenya. |

3rd series #10, Legacy #574. The new kids are training on their non-powered fighting, with Eva and Magik sparring. Eva accidentally puts Magik in a time bubble, showing that she can apparently move people in time, not just freeze it. Magneto leaves to meet with Maria Hill, who is upset that he hasn't given up Cyclops yet, or warned them when the X-Men attacked the helicarrier. Now if Magneto wants to talk to SHIELD, he has to go through Dazzler (who, we know, is actually Mystique). On the news, the team sees that people in Ann Arbor are having a pro-mutant rally. They decide to go say hi, and Cyclops begins to talk to the crowd when a Sentinel shows up and starts acting all terminate-y. |
