#159 has Dracula make an appearance. Storm is mugged after dropping Kitty with her folks and found later at the hospital with a neck injury. Kitty is convinced it was a vampire and it turns out she's right! A hypnotized Storm follows Dracula to Central Park, with the team in chase, and Kitty breaks the spell while the guys fight Dracula. Storm confronts Dracula, who lets her go. Meanwhile, Cyclops and Corsair have been in the Southwest catching up with Havok to complete the Summers reunion. The team gets a less happy call from Moira at Muir Island, as Xavier is getting worse. |

#259 is all over the place. Starting with the cover, we get some Genoshan action again. The Genegineer's son, Phil Moreau, and his girlfriend have run away from Genosha but are about to be captured by Magistrates. Colossus butts in and saves the two without his powers, because he's apparently amnesic. It's catching, too, as Dazzler wakes up in Hollywood at Lila Cheney's place with no idea who she is. She goes out to a club and ends up on TV, where former mogul Eric Beale sees her and is excited that he'll get the chance to kill her himself. We also get a quick glimpse at Muir Island where some Legion psychic action reveals the Shadow King and the words 'Storm' and 'Cairo'. |

#359 has Rogue finally about to go through the mutant cure that she's been considering. The doctor is attacked before he can start the procedure, and it turns out it was Mystique. Rogue and Mystique get some mother-daughter/mutant-mutant discussion time, then Rogue goes back and touches the doctor to get his memories. She sees that he had failed in the past, killing a mutant and deforming his sister, but the machine should work now. Instead, Rogue destroys it so that it isn't used involuntarily on mutants in the future. Back in Alaska, Jean seems to have lost her powers after a psionic attack the previous issue. |

#459 wraps up the dino people arc. With snow and freezing temperatures showing up globally, the team plus their Savage Land friends go back to stop dino-Rachel. They fight off the dino people, stop Rachel from controlling Storm, and convince her that it's probably bad if everyone freezes to death. Rachel becomes herself again after connecting with Storm's mind to calm the weather. Nightcrawler talks the dino people into being friendly instead of attacking humanity. |

2nd series #15, Legacy #559. The Phoenix Five X-Men have made Earth over into a Utopia but not everything is peachy. The other X-Men are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Colossus talks to Cyttorak to get rid of his Juggernaut stuff now that he's with the Phoenix, but Cyttorak refuses. The Phoenix Five decide that Sinister must be eliminated since he is a threat to Hope, and head to Sinister City. Sinister prepares for war. |

Day 60 starts with kind of a favorite villain of mine, I think because of the cartoon. Sauron has never been a top-tier guy, which I guess makes sense because at the end of the day he's a pterosaur. Karl Lykos is basically a bad dude though, who has long taken energy from his patients and is especially excited to get his hands on a mutant. When Alex is sent to Lykos for treatment for his injuries, Lykos takes his energy and turns into Sauron. Later the X-Men see Sauron flying around on the news and Angel flies after him. |

#160 is a relatively hot book now as it's the first appearance of Magik (roughly speaking) (and also the first appearances of the demon S'ym and Limbo). Belasco, ruler of Limbo, lures Illyana to a teleportation disc that brings her into Limbo. Kitty notices Illyana wander off and so the team follows, also ending up in Limbo but spread out. After magical shenanigans and with help from an older, sorceress Storm, they fend off Belasco and pull Illyana back to our dimension. However, in a few moments between when they're all on Earth and pulling Illyana through, the entirety of the Magik mini-series happens and Illyana has aged 7 years and is now Magik. |

#260 mostly follows up on Dazzler, as she is attacked by crazed 'fan' Eric Beale. They draw him out a second time by releasing the previously recorded Dazzler movie, which works to the extent that Beale kidnaps Dazzler. She's able to talk him down, though, and realizes that what she wants in life is to help other people. Banshee and Forge see a magazine with Dazzler on it and change plans on flying to Cairo, which is good because their plane is destroyed by Fenris (Andrea and Andreas van Strucker, who will have their first appearance come up later in the thread). |

| #360 introduces a new team of 'X-Men' led by, apparently, Prof. X. The team kidnaps Kitty because Xavier had some kind of computer virus put in him when captured by Bastion; Kitty is able to remove it. They've also kidnapped Dr. Peter Corbeau, an old friend of the team's, who is supposed to be working on a rocket launch from Cape Citadel. Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, and Marrow fight the new team while trying to find Corbeau but get a hand from Nightcrawler and Colossus, who are trying to find Kitty. The issue ends with everyone in the Blackbird, damaged and looking forward to a crash. 1998! Foil!  |

| #460 is kind of a take-stock issue. Sage is gone, which bothers Bishop because they were X-Treme buddies; Colossus is back, which means Rachel gets less Kitty friend time; Wolverine is brainwashed by the Hand (this is around the Enemy of the State arc); and Psylocke was dead. In the end, the team gets a visit from Juggernaut and Nocturne fresh from the Mojoverse, and Spiral and Mojo came after them. This looks like a variant but was actually just the regular cover, by J. Scott Campbell.  |

2nd series #16 follows on the Phoenix Five taking the fight to Mr. Sinister. They have to fight Marauder clones, Gambit clones, and even a Krakoa clone. That all goes ok but things take a turn when the Madelyne clones show up and the Phoenix decides that they make better hosts. Fortunately, back at Utopia, Magneto decided that they should disobey Cyclops and fight Sinister too, so the rest of the X-Men come to the rescue. |

| Were you popping into bookstores buying 458-460? I never see too many newsstands after the 300s. Grocery and drug stores stocked carrying comics, Media Play closed along with other bookstores in the area so the joys of buying my groceries and getting a couple comics faded away in the early 2000s. After I got my license, I just drove to the comic shop. | ||

| Day 61 has the second part of Sauron's first appearance. He shows off his hypnotic powers in battle, although the X-Men handle it fairly well, and Sauron has to escape when he starts to revert to human. Everyone meets back at Dr. Lykos' office to check on Alex, who has recovered, but the happiness is upset by Lykos' fiancee being there (good) and her father who does not want her to marry him (bad). Later the X-Men figure out that Lykos and Sauron are the same person and stop him from killing his future father-in-law. Realizing how evil he's become, Lykos goes to an isolated island where he can't steal energy from anyone... until his fiancee finds him, and he jumps off a cliff to stop himself from taking all her energy and killing her. 60 is a dramatic cover but I think I might prefer 61.  |

#161 is mostly a flashback issue as we go inside the comatose Xavier's mind. He remembers back to Israel where a friend built a clinic for Holocaust victims, which happened to include a man named Magnus. There was also a comatose woman named Gabrielle Haller (her first appearance). Xavier uses his powers to get Gabby out and they eventually fall in love, and Magnus shows his powers when Hydra attacks the clinic. Apparently Gabby knows the coordinates to hidden Nazi gold. They go to Africa and fight Baron van Strucker, where Magnus takes the gold to help the mutant battle. Xavier wakes up from his coma. The X-Men are attacked and knocked out by Deathbird, who hands them over to the Brood. |

#261, like the cover says, is the first appearance of the Harriers. They attack Wolverine, Psylocke, and Jubilee in Madripoor and kidnap Wolverine. Psylocke and Jubilee, despite not liking each other, work together to find Wolverine and fight the Harriers to a draw, where Wolverine reveals that he hired the Harriers to see how well the ladies could work together. Dick move, Logan. Forge and Banshee make a stop at the old (still destroyed) mansion before going to find Dazzler, and see Jean get kidnapped by some ugly folks. The Reavers recruit Forge and Banshee's pilot, who survived the plane being blown up but not in good shape. |

#361 brings Gambit back into the fold. Black Tom asks Storm and Kitty to help with Juggernaut, who had his gem stolen and is rampaging through South Korea with the last of his power. Storm and Kitty run into Gambit there, who has been hired to steal the gem himself. They work together and find the cult that took the gem on an island off the coast, recover the gem, and get it back to Juggy and Black Tom. Gambit isn't keen on returning to the team, but Storm invites him anyway. |

Speaking of Juggernaut, #461 has him decide explicitly to be a grown up and move on from Squidboy's death. Mojo turns the X-Men into X-Babies and has bad guys for them to fight throughout the mansion. Baby Storm runs into Baby Cain trying to get back to the Danger Room control room, where Cain thinks he might rather not fight so he can stay a child and start fresh without all his past mistakes. Storm convinces him that grown-ups make decisions and live with the consequences, then the two of them defeat Spiral and free the other X-Men to join the battle. Mojo folds quickly and turns them back into adults, Juggernaut included. |

2nd series #17, Legacy #561. The rest of the Extinction Team (Storm, Magneto, Psylocke, and Danger) infiltrate Sinister's city. They don't make much headway against the Phoenix-possessed Madelyne clones (just one of them, actually) but in the meantime Emma talks to the Phoenix Force. She convinces it that it doesn't want to exist in Sinister's possession, so it burns the Madelynes and rejoins the Phoenix Five. They burn every trace of Sinister's city, presumably destroying Sinister for all time so we'll never see him again. |

Day 62 starts with a cover that I personally think of as the first appearance of Ka-Zar, probably just because I've seen it more often than #10. It's the actual first appearance of the Savage Land Mutates, like Amphibious, Barbarus, and Brainchild. Angel, recovered from his Sauron whammy, catches up with the rest of the team on the island where Lykos jumped to his death. The team went to find the body and it turns out the Savage Land is down there. Angel is attacked by pteranodons and is woken up by someone calling himself the Creator, who convinces Angel that he's kind of like Prof. X and the X-Men and Ka-Zar are the bad guys. Angel must've scrambled his head pretty good because he doesn't recognize the Creator as Magneto. |

#162 is largely a Wolverine story. The X-Men wake up thinking they are at a Shi'Ar celebration, but Wolvie is getting two different stories from his senses. He figures out that it's really the Brood and they've been captured but the rest of the team doesn't believe it. He escapes and sees Imperial Guard member Fang turn into a Brood, and knows what the team is in for. Wolverine fights his way out into the jungle-y planet and starts to change, but his healing factor kills off the embryo. Is he going to have to kill the rest of the team to keep them from becoming Brood? the less nice copy  |

#262 makes you wonder, why such a creepy cover? It's because something in the Morlock tunnels is pretty monster-y, and can change faces. Forge gets separated from Jean and Banshee and has to kill a couple, only to find that they've been horribly changed too. Elsewhere, the Genoshans insist to Val Cooper that the US needs to hand over the two escaped Genoshans that (amnesic) Colossus helped. The Genoshans are also pretty unhappy with the X-Men in general. Speaking of Colossus, he and a mysterious woman that he keeps seeing are teleported somewhere by Masque of the Morlocks. And the Reavers are destroying Emma Frost's property until they find her. |

#362 starts the Search for Xavier arc. Pyro is running around fields in Nebraska, powers out of control because of the Legacy Virus, and ranting about Xavier. SHIELD calls in the X-Men to handle things, and they get Pyro away from people and put out the fires. Pyro is running from something metallic but they don't get a good look at it before it disappears. Kitty uses a Cerebro machine to look for Xavier and gets two hits before it breaks. |

#462 is the first issue during the House of M crossover, caused when the Scarlet Witch loses her children and creates a new reality. This causes shenanigans across the multiverse, wiping out other universes and Roma's Starlight Citadel. Saturnyne tells Captain Britain that Earth 616 has to be destroyed to save the other universes, but the Captain stalls the initial try. He has 48 hours to fix things though, or else 616 will be destroyed for sure. |

2nd series #18, Legacy #562. At this point in the arc Namor, Colossus, and Magik have lost their shares of the Phoenix Force, making Cyclops and Emma the remaining hosts with an increased amount of power. Things have turned south since the Phoenix Five created utopia across the Earth; the corrupting influence of the Phoenix has kicked in. The X-Men and Avengers fight Cyclops and Emma while the two of them have a conversation on the Astral Plane, pretty unbothered by everything going on. Cyclops then turns on Emma and takes her power, becoming the full Phoenix host. |

Day 63 makes it pretty clear who the Creator is. Angel goes to fight his teammates and Ka-Zar, but gets set straight pretty quickly when the Mutates show up to kill them all. The X-Men handle business and storm the castle but are stopped by Magneto's newest Mutate, Lorelei (side note: Magneto created the Mutates with some machine, pointing out to me that he was really a gadget guy in the original run). Her voice hypnotizes all the men but has no effect on Jean; Jean fights off Magneto and telekinetically opens Cyclops' visor to destroy the machinery. The Mutates revert back to their original forms and Magneto appears to have died for the fourth or fifth time in the first 60ish issues. |

#163 has Wolverine sneak back in and find that the Brood are doing some kind of experiments on Carol Danvers. He offs the Brood and saves Carol; they meet up with Cyclops and Storm, who freed themselves from their trances after having horrible nightmares that the team was attacked by the Brood. They free the rest of the squad and make it back to Lilandra's ship. Back on Earth, the X-Men's friends make some guesses at what happened and the Starjammers head out to find Broodworld. We're getting close to Xavier starting the New Mutants. the less nice copy  |

#263 has Forge battling Vietnam flashbacks as he tries to get Jean and Banshee out of the Morlock tunnels. They run into Colossus and Callisto, also being hunted by Masque, and Colossus turns into metal again when Masque tries to stab him. Forge gets everyone out and is even able to reverse Jean and Banshee's transformations. All's well that ends well. |

#363 picks up the Hunt for Xavier story after the X-Men title took a turn. In that one, some of the team went to check out one of the Xavier Cerebro signals. They met a psychic girl who told them that Cerebro has come for Xavier. Here, the rest of the team is after the other signal in San Francisco. It turns out that Xavier is there, powerless, but has gathered a new Brotherhood (Blob, Post, Mimic, and Toad) to fight a common foe. That foe would be Cerebro, who gained sentience thanks to Bastion. |

#463 continues the House of M shenanigans of Captain Britain. He has a dream of being told to hurry and then the world being destroyed, and the next day attacks a woman that he thinks is Saturnyne. His attack is stopped, fortunately, because she is not. Along with Psylocke and Rachel they find the Marauders arresting Juggernaut, thought to be a renegade mutant. Tracking down a second renegade they find Nocturne. |
