5th series #14, Legacy #633. The X-Men track down former MLF member Reaper but find out that he doesn't have his powers and isn't in the MLF anymore. They do track down former Marauder Scrambler though, which leads them to the Morlocks. Chamber is with them and tells Cyclops that it's time to start making good on previous promises. They go to made-up country Chernaya, take out some terrorists who were trying to take over the country, and give the land to the Morlocks to live.![]() |

Day 34 starts with the team looking for Prof. X, who was kidnapped by Factor Three. They get distracted by a call from Ted Roberts, Jean's fellow student and brother of the Cobalt Man, who says that Ralph has been kidnapped by someone called Tyrannus. The team gets involved in an underground turf war between Tyrannus and Mole Man.![]() |

#134 has something of a first appearance as Jean goes full Dark Phoenix. She gets rid of Mastermind's control and frees Cyclops, who frees the team along with Wolverine, and they handle the Inner Circle this time. But Jean also drives Mastermind insane and, on their flight home, blows up the plane.![]() |

#234 has an upper-tier cover for me as Wolverine's healing factor has to fend off a Brood infection. The team also takes out the rest of the mutant Brood and head home. Speaking of home, Madelyne Pryor has a dream with the demon S'ym in it and makes a fateful choice. Parallel with Jean's change in #134, Madelyne changes into the Goblin Queen.![]() I got that one as part of my 9.8 list but this one I already had is actually pretty nice. ![]() |

#334 is more Onslaught-centric as Juggernaut shows up and asks Jean to search his mind for who Onslaught really is. Meanwhile, Xavier is an ass to everyone he comes across. Also, Bastion and Graydon Creed are working together.![]() |

#434 has the Draco arc finally wrap up. A few of the demon mutants die and Nightcrawler is happy to realize that the X-Men are his family and not evil dudes like Azazel. In Canada, Juggernaut (mostly?) allows himself to be captured by Alpha Flight when Squidboy asks him not to hurt anyone else.![]() |

#534 has Cyclops turn the tables on Lobe and his faux mutants by bringing the plague to them. Lobe can't make the plague worse without making everyone who took the mutant drug (including himself) worse, and so he loses. In China, Emma Frost wipes Sebastian Shaw's mind, which I'm sure will never be reversed.![]() There's a point one issue here, so I figured I'd toss it in. ![]() |

5th series #15, Legacy #634. Dark Beast successfully removes the Transmode virus from the New Mutants gang, which is nice I guess. Less nice is that the X-Men get a lead on the MLF and, when they go to stop them, Hope shoots Cyclops in the head. He loses an eye but Hope, Banshee, and the rest of the MLF are captured. Hope apparently took all that Cable war training stuff to heart.![]() |

Day 35 starts with an early Spider-Man crossover, which is still oddly popular and thus I have a kind of crummy copy. It's also the first appearances of Factor Three's "Master" and Mekano.![]() |

#135 is the cover I would have entered in this week's contest except I waited to take a picture of my own book and someone else entered it in the meantime. Bummer. Also a bummer: Dark Phoenix wipes the floor with the X-Men, flies into space, and eats a star which destroys its inhabited planet. A Shi'Ar ship notices and attacks; Phoenix destroys it too, but now Lilandra knows what's going on.![]() |

#235 introduces Genosha. The Genoshan Press Gang shows up in Australia to retrieve a former citizen who tested positive for mutant genes. They also end up capturing Madelyne, Wolverine, and Rogue; some random Genoshan Magistrates are left behind and the rest of the X-team beats them up.![]() |

#435 is truth in advertising as it begins the trial of the Juggernaut. He's been arrested in Canada for, most recently, destroying Squidboy's house and attaching his dad. She-Hulk is one of his lawyers and they end up sleeping together, but it later turns out that it was a She-Hulk from another dimension.![]() |

5th series #16, Legacy #635 picks up after the War of the Realms crossover. The body count continued there, killing Sunspot and Sabretooth. This issue keeps it rolling by having Kwannon (the non-Betsy Braddock Psylocke) kill Joseph (the Magneto clone) and Wolfsbane leave the team and end up dead.![]() |

#136 continues the Dark Phoenix saga. Jean returns to Earth and visits her family but is attacked by the X-Men. She handles them easily but seems to be swayed by Cyclops reasoning with her. Prof. X shows up and ruins things by attacking her, but Jean is still human enough to let Xavier win and he seemingly hides away her power forever. Then, the X-Men are teleported away somewhere.![]() |

5th series #17, Legacy #636 doesn't have a death but is all about Wolfbane's death, revealed last issue. Turns out that a guy made a pass at her, wouldn't take no for an answer, and then (with his friends) beats her to death when they realize she's a mutant. While the issue is presumably about trans panic murders, Matt Rosenberg got some flak for how he handled it. Regardless, it's a pretty crummy way for a long-time character like Rahne to go out.![]() |

Day 37 has the long-simmering Factor Three confrontation come to a head. The team is on their way to Europe to rescue Prof. X when their plane is attacked. This was before they had their own fancy plane, so to protect the other passengers they jump out of the plane. They survive but are attacked again on the ground and captured. They meet the Mutant Master and his second in command the Changeling, along with Unus, Blob, Vanisher, and Mastermind. It turns out that Factor Three is putting them on trial for being too friendly to humans, and that they plan to start World War III.![]() |

#137 is truly a classic issue and wraps the Dark Phoenix storyline. Transported to the moon by the Shi'Ar, the team must fight the Imperial Guard (several make their first appearances here) to save Jean's life. The X-Men lose and the Phoenix powers return when Cyclops is beaten; Jean regains enough of her humanity to kill herself instead of succumbing to the Dark Phoenix's urges.![]() |

#237 has Wolverine and Rogue continue their attempt to escape from Genosha. They don't have their powers but they are invisible to scanners thanks to the Roma/Adversary shenanigans before they landed in Australia. Unfortunately, without his healing factor to fight the adamantium in his body, Wolverine is dying. On the plus side, the rest of the X-Men make it to Genosha and begin getting answers.![]() |

#437 introduces a Romeo and Juliet story between the Guthrie's and the Cabot's back in Husk's hometown. She also breaks up with Angel. If you want to see a change in artist style, take a look at this cover and then go back the the 5th series issues from the past few days (11 through 16). They're all by the same guy, Salvador Larocca. We'll see more of Larocca here as he's on the book for through #443. ![]() |

#537 has Kruun depower Colossus and beat him up pretty good. He also grabs Kitty and gets her out of her suit, so when she runs for help she can't do much in her phased state. She manages to get Wolverine, who fights Kruun, but one of the other Breakworlders uses their special metal to kill her.![]() |
