Grade screening instructions12181

Collector SpiderTim private msg quote post Address this user
I would like to ask what the requirements to make a grade screening submission are. I would like to send a batch of moderns and would like them grade screened for 9.6's grades. Would like to know the minimum amount of books to submit and the cost of every book that is rejected for said grade. Sorry if this has been addressed previously but I've never done one of these submission

Here are the instructions from the CBCS website. There is no minimum. I believe the rejection fee is something like $5 but I also think they often waive the fee as long as a majority of the books pass the screen

If your book meets the minimum grade, it will be certified and placed into a CBCS case with no additional fees. Remember that the screening grade you choose is the minimum it can be to be certified at. In many cases your book may grade higher than the grade you chose.

CBCS is happy to provide this service as a way to prevent customers from having to pay full grading fees for comics they might not want CBCS to certify. Also remember that you can screen for any grade between 3.0 and 9.8 for each individual book. You may choose a completely different Grade Screening level for each one of the comics in your submission on the same invoice. Choosing the Grade Screening service has absolutely no impact on the stated turnaround time of your submission tier. We offer the same CBCS Guarantee with this service that we have on all of your submissions.

Thanks @dielinfinite were did you find that second paragraph? No minimum amount of comics have to be submitted? Because I believe CGC has a minimum 25 book submission to do grade screens.

@SpiderTim No minimum requirement. You can grade screen any amount.

I am also told on the forum here that it is more economical for shipping to send books in multiples of 5. X amount of $ for 1-5 books then x amount of $ for 6-10 books and so on. Something like that.

On the online submission form, when you are adding a book in the top right there is a little “i” icon. Clicking on it will provide instructions for the various fields.

CGC is infamous for nickel-and-diming customers. Yes they have a minimum for grade screen. They also require a minimum number of sketches to be submitted if you’re doing a mail-in sketch op. They also charge an invoice fee for every invoice and require books on different tiers to be submitted on different invoices. They charge $5 for grader’s notes on all books you didn’t submit under your own account.

All of these are things CBCS does not do

I usually submit at least 20 books to save on shipping fees. Although my first submission to them in 2015 was for over 120 books.

As far as shipping, if you look on the pinned FAQ thread, you will find this chart.

This helps me out, too. Answers some of the questions I also had. I guess like they say, if you have a questions, speak up. Someone else probably has the same question.

I've never used grade screening. And now that I know it's not charged for books that pass the screen, I'm left wondering why I haven't been grade screening everything I send in.
