Submussion return shipping cost12075

Collector groovy31 private msg quote post Address this user
I've recently submitted a medium size box (37 books) via UPS ground (12x14x8 11 lbs dimensions) for $29. For the return shipping options given to me, the cheapest was FedEx ground for $100. My question is why such a large difference between delivery and return shipping costs? How can I ship a box with the given size for $70 less than the return cost? Even with the slighly increased teturn shipping weight, I'm not clear how it could still be such a huge difference in cost for a comparable shipping method/speed?

It was a one trick pony show but always hilarious. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
are you comparing sending raw books to returning slabbed books? If so, I wouldn't call the difference in weight, slight. Also, the required protection packaging used for slabbed books is different than raw...meaning the amount of bubblewrap etc. makes for a considerably larger and heavier returned box.

Ups and fedex charge based more on volume thsn weight; MUCH bigger when slabbed, and multiple boxes...

@groovy31 - Look at the shipping cost chart for CBCS. It is based on BOTH the number of books and their insured value. It is best to submit books in multiples of 5 to get the best bang for your shipping dollar (for example, it costs the same to ship 10 books as it does 6 books, unless the value jumps to the next threshold).

I played around with some larger dimensions and a 30 lb increase in weight via UPS ground and got closer to the $100. Only some of the 37 books are being slabbed. Perhaps it is due to volume. I was thinking more of weight for return shipping costs.

Another thing to keep in mind is they are going to ship them insured for the stated value of the books if my memory serves me right. I sent 34 books from C2E2 this year, and the return shipping was $94. And they came well wrapped and in a huge box. Well worth what I paid.

I also assume that the cost of shipping (man hours and materials) is also factored into that cost.

@groovy31 You can create a FedEx account and add that to your CBCS account. You can then choose to have CBCS ship your order UNINSURED for a cheaper handling fee and you will be charged shipping directly from FedEx.

Again your order would be UNINSURED so CBCS’ has no liability if things are lost or damaged in Shipping. You can, of course, purchase tour own insurance separately.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
You can set up your own Fedex account for free and use it going forward.

Fedex charges no upfront fees or any recurring fees for the account.

I do this and use third party insurance which saves me a lot of money.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I have a box coming back today so I happen to be able to bring the numbers up really easily. I have 11 slabbed books coming back; they're in a 18x13x7 in box that weights 10.7 pounds. If they shipped it USPS ground (2-day isn't much more) it would be $31 without extra insurance and I paid $40 something, so seems reasonable to me after you put in the cost of packing materials and someone's time.

You want to make sure that you let them know early and often that you do not want to pay for the insurance.

They didn't do it at first and all of sudden Fedex whacked me for about $300 when CBCS added insurance the first time.

I think it took me at least a couple phone calls to get it sorted out.

@MarcJ You have to add the fedex account number to your CBCS account. Once that is done, when you’re checking out on an order check the box that says “Use FedEx account” and the shipping fees and options update automatically

Right, I do that already, but there is no option to waive shipping insurance. I want to explore 3rd party insurance.

Selecting the option to use a Fedex account IS the option to “Waive Insurance”

These are the shipping prices for one Modern book without using the FedEx Account

If I check the “Use FedEx Account” box I get this message

If I check the shipping options again they now look like this because CBCS is just charging you to pack the books. Whatever option you select here will dictate what FedEx bills you for shipping

Insured value is a big part. So mine are all st 1 dollar value. When the total value goes over 500 is when the insurance cost begins to rise.(If I am remembering right)
Also, 30 is the max in a box. I alway send in multiples of 30 so I get a fu)l box worth. By sending 30 my shipping averages to 2 dollars or less per book to North Carolina. I am fine with that.
Hope this helps someone.
