I have a question for some of the regulars and hard-core collectors here. Marvel Spotlight #28 is valued on GoCollect at $220 in 9.2 CGC grade. My copy (below) is a CBCS 9.2 with a verified signature. Based on that information, what would be the difference (approximations and guesses) as to what the difference in value would be with the signature? I've read varying reports about CGC vs CBCS values, and I am curious how the signature would or wouldn't impact the perceived sales value. Thank you! ![]() |

All subject to personal preference. Some love signatures, some don't. There are hard core collectors that either seek out signed books and those that won't touch them. To each their own. It all also depends on how rare the signature is. Look at the prices of a book signed by Kirby vs. One not. Some people would love to have that book and will pay more than $220 as they see value in the additional signature. Its all subject to what someone is willing to spend.

Couldn’t find his exact sig. in a red label. But a yellow label Marv Wolfman sig on that book in 9.2 recently sold for $250. I’d ask $300 and take offers in that range. ![]() |

at 90 years old, Don Perlin is likely not signing any more books. I'd try to find out when he last signed books at conventions and what he charged (if it was relatively recent). I'd try to get a sense of how common his signature is. You can ask for a premium over non-signed books as autograph seekers would pay it.

I think that Spotlight #28 is an under-appreciated cover. It really has class. The signature is also great color and placement for the cover. That cover with that signature is probably a very rare thing. I would price it high because as soon as you sell it you're going to wish you had not.

I've attended roughly 10 - 12 conventions in the last 15 years; and 1 - 5 in the early 90's to mid 2000's. I have never, in all those conventions, met Don Perlin. I would personally place a much higher value on this comic, because it is one of the rarer signatures for a man who did a tremendous amount of work for Marvel (and Valiant) in the heyday |

Quote:Originally Posted by EbaySeller Thanks, everybody, for your thoughts. I thought the valuation of $220 was low given the signature, I've seen few Perlin signatures on eBay, too, especially on this book. As of now, I have no intention to sell, but it's good to know I have at least one rarer item in my collection! ![]() |

Great book and sig by one of the legends of our time. I agree with the above and would put a premium above an average 9.2, maybe 20/30% asking $300 and go from there.
