I am sorry to say that I've had back to back bad experiences with CBCS. My first experience was noted here on the board last year, and Steve from pressing really helped me out, and my book eventually made it back to me. I'm asking once again for one of you U.S. based CBCS heroes to help me out. I placed an order (19-3E22077) for verification, pressing and grading in November of 2019. As with my last experience it was a fast pass/fast press with signature verifications (Chris Claremont & Stan Lee). I tempered expectations, because I knew that the verification and pressing process would take a little while as the last one took over 5 months. I submitted in November, and the order was complete in May; over 6 months turnaround. Here's the rub; I had to move for work between the time the order was submitted and completed. I notified CBCS customer service in FEBRUARY of my move and provided my new address. I was assured that my book would come to my new address. Lo and behold, when the order was done, I received an email verifying they had shipped the book to my new address! UNFORTUNATELY that was NOT the case. Even though I received an email saying the book was shipped to the right address, they had STILL mailed it to my former address. I received a call from FEDEX telling me they couldn't deliver the package, because I "no longer lived at that address." Shocking. I asked them to re-route the package to me, because I had used a personal account for shipping. Initially, they agreed, and I tracked the book as it made its way to my new town! Yay! On the day the book was scheduled to be delivered, I got an "undeliverable" notice from FEDEX. I called their customer service again, and they said they couldn't deliver to me, because they had to return the item to the shipper. I called CBCS customer service and politely asked that they escalate my issue to Darrell. I spoke with Darrell and he assured me the package would be shipped back to Dallas, the address would be corrected, and shipped back to me. That was 8 days ago. In the 8 days since I have called CBCS customer service, and have been unable to reach ANYONE. Even the answering service. I've left messages. I have emailed the CBCS support email address. I have gotten NOTHING. No response, whatsoever. Someone, please help me. The book itself isn't terribly valuable. X-Men #1 from 1991. There are approximately 10 MILLION copies of that book, but this one was signed by Stan the Man ("STAN LEE '93" ![]() I've had the book since I was 11 years old, and of all the books I've had graded, I never sent this one, because I was afraid of THIS EXACT SCENARIO. I know there are million copies of X-Men #1, but that one is mine. When Stan signed it, he called me "hero", and put a little extra remark under his name. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me recover my book. |

I'm sure somebody at CBCS will see this in the morning and get on it asap. Steve Borock, Steve Ricketts and Darryl are all pretty active here. Plus, I'll see if I can contact one of them in the am myself. This does sound like a stressful situation!! I feel for ya. We'll see what can be done in the morning.

Yeah, FedEx sucks. I had to stop using them last year for exactly this sort of screw-up. It totally makes sense that they would reroute it to you one day, and then determine later that they can't actually ship it to you, due to shipper restrictions. (It's likely CBCS does that to prevent any packages from going to a different address than the one they put on the label, for security. And so FedEx wasn't allowed to change it, probably. But that is something they should have told you right away.) I once had a shipment from FedEx, and they refused to release it without an in-person signature, and kept missing their window ... I took off work multiple times, but they kept showing up hours before they said they would. One time they came when I was home, but they rang the wrong bell or something in my condo, because I never heard them. I only got the email - "We tried to deliver your package again!" - after the guy had left. They said the signature was a requirement of the shipper, but it turns out that wasn't true, it was FedEx's requirement. In fact, they told me many things that weren't true: that I could sign online (I couldn't), that I could have it delivered to the local Walgreens (I couldn't), that they could release it if the shipper agreed to it (they wouldn't), and that it would be sent back to the shipper right away so they could try again (they held it locally for 10 days). Also, every box I get from them is dirty as hell, and just picking them up puts black dirt on my hands and arms. FedEx is terrible and they'll never get my business again. |

honestly - much better for FEDEX to return the book than to deliver it to someone else

I work for Fedex Express and I have never heard of a signature being a requirement of Fedex and NOT the shipper. That seems weird. Also, there is a big difference between Express vs Ground. Employess vs Contractors. Of course everyone has bad experiences with shipping companies, even I have, but that one sounded odd. To OP, I do hope you get your book back. In a scenario like this can’t you just log into FEDEX snd select pick up at one of their locations? That’s what I do with 90% of my packages with them. Good luck...hope you get your book back. |

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I used a FedEx account for shipping, and it was express, not ground. I was contacted by FedEx when the book arrived at the wrong address. I tried to have them ship it to my current address, and initially they agreed, but on the day of delivery they were contacted by the shipper (CBCS) and were told they had to ship the book BACK to CBCS. It was in my hometown. They wouldn't hold it, or deliver to me. They claimed they were legally bound to return to the sender. That didn't make any sense to me either. Daryl told me the book would be returned to Dallas then re-shipped back to me. The book made it back to Dallas as of last Wednesday 5/13/20. Today is Friday, 5/22/20. I have gotten no update on the status of the package. I don't know if it's still in Dallas, if it was every properly received back by CBCS, or if it has been re-shipped to me. The fedex tracking tool just tells me it was returned to sender 5/13/20. I called the customer service line and emailed the customer service inbox beginning Tuesday of this week, and have yet to receive any response. That's why I'm bringing my concerns here. I know these boards are usually monitored by folks who can make things happen. Again, I appreciate the feedback. |
