Something I had purchased months ago from Mandarake. I have zero clues on what the series is, but I wanted it because it involved a cat and was within my budget. At least before it came down to DHL shipping. But even then it is fun to have this and cannot wait to have it framed.

@circumstances amazing book you have there, if you send it to cgc, I've seen how much care they take with a Superman 1. Seriously, why don't you have that thing slabbed yet. You must have some incredible books in your collection, not sure if you've posted anymore but would like to see what other jewels you have.

Thanks! I've posted a bunch so far (All American 16, Batman 1, All Star 3, More Fun 52, 54, 55, Flash 1 (I think!)).

I also started a thread called Centaur Comics where I'm posting my Centaur collection one by one (as are others).

Exactly zero of my books are slabbed. Down the road, when I retire, I'll probably slab them and make a new hobby that consists of liquidating my collection

Superman #1, or old funny books in general?

Fortunately neither. One thing I always wonder about the old rare books is how many of them actually made it out to the West Coast in the original distribution. Whenever you hear about a find in an attic or under the stairs it's almost always on the East Coast. Most West Coast houses didn't even exist at the time. When a book like Action 1 or Superman 1 was printed, I suspect there were many states that never even recieved a copy in the original distribution. I'm sure copies traveled everywhere eventually, but the early "funny books" were primarily an East Coast thing, from what I can tell.

This photo requires a little explanation: one of my cats actually got a squirrel!🐿 Those of you who have indoor/ outdoor cats probably know that squirrels are a huge nemesis of cats. They have the ability to get higher up than cats can climb and they seem to enjoy taunting them endlessly. All you cat lovers out there take heart; for once the cat actually got the last laugh!😹

You may have to blow the picture up a little bit to see it clearly.

While going through a box of books from a long ago auction
I found this ad in a copy of SUPERMAN #101 (Nov 1955).
As part of this offer you would receive a "SPECIAL MAGAZINE"
...does anyone have an idea what it was?

Hi Marty,

I think it was the Superman's Buddy comic. There was a full color 1954 version and a blue and white 1958 version. Your 1955 ad would have come with this one:

I don’t advocate risky behavior in the middle of a pandemic, but last Friday we ventured out to a nearby restaurant pub mid-day when sparsely occupied (No Frills Grill, in east Ft. Worth). My faithful spousal unit Rox snapped this from a safe distance, while I worked through the complex logistical challenge of imbibing a freshly tapped Irish red while wearing a GA Captain America mask:

Needless to say Cap and Bucky won the day, avoiding this onrushing torrential brew with gusto, surviving in anticipation of the next thrilling chapter of this Timely saga.

Cheers,
CatMan

Below are a few pics as to why I haven't been buying comics lately. I have been saving my pennies to purchase my grail car.

1978 Corvette Silver Anniversary.

Criteria....
Engine: 350 L-82
Transmission Automatic
Interior: NOT red

I have no intentions of keeping the car original... I am going to modify to my specs for me to enjoy.

Transmission: I will most likely drop the Turbo 350 and replace with a Turbo 400.
Exhaust: Edelbrock headers with either the Borla Atak or Flowmaster. Don't know yet.
Suspension: I have been researching the German made Gymkhana. Some vette owners swear by it, and some hate it. My intentions are to make the car handle like a go-kart, yet ride like a marshmallow.
(PS... I hate marshmallows. LOL)
Sound System: Will most certainly be upgraded.

Here are some pics....
