Surfing with the Alien11968

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
Queue the Joe Satriani music...my 3 SS1's are in Grading!

My favorite musician and my favorite character!

If you haven't heard the track, give it a try.

@Scifinator

Yes!!!!

Great album. That and master of puppets were staples in my car.

Most people had never even heard of Satriani, but they quickly learned.

@Jabberwookie

In 1987, he quickly supplanted Rush as my main music go to. Zipping down Redwood Road in Castro Valley Hills on my motorcycle with his music in my ears...and living...priceless.

I've always been more of a "Ride the Lightning" kind of guy, but MOP is definitely a good one!

Those are great memories.

Mine was a Subaru brat, and I got my friend so hooked on Satch boogie that he ended up buying the tape, too.

Snot's air guitar of Joe Satriani's "Always with me, Always with you" is so moving that it will bring tears to your eyes

I can not argue with you on That one. RTL is a great album and probably my favorite now.

I kept And Justice for all in my tape player for a year.

My girlfriend at the time was sick of it.

We reconnected on Facebook a year ago and she told me it’s one of her favorites because of me.

@Jabberwookie Oh yea, I get it. Metallica's first 4 albums (I'm not counting the "Garage Days Revisited" EP) are classics. Some would say that the black album is, too. But, to me, it was just a different direction musically and doesn't match up to the first 4, regardless of its popularity.

Solos from that time period are so different than now. They were the focus of the music and in your face. Whenever I hear Surfing With the Alien I always think of Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover. Although the sound and tone are very, very different.

Not much of a metallica fan, couple decent songs, for the most part just a bunch of bad noise to me.

If I remember the era correctly there was a lot of amazing stuff going on in several genres of music in addition to the Heavy Metal and Solo Guitarists:
GnR Appetite for Destruction
Paul Simon Graceland
U2 Joshua Tree
Tom Petty Runnin down a dream(?)
and Dark Side of the Moon refusing to leave the top album charts

Not sure the actual dates but I remember it all in the 1986-1990 range.
And then Thanos snapped his finger and it all turned to Grunge.

Agreed.

Although, I got to see them for that album.

Metallica, Guns and Roses and Faith No More.

Best concert I ever saw!
