The good news, I got 23 books packed up and shipped off today for slabbing at CBCS. The bad news, even with the discount the total cost was 25% of insured value, so no heavy hitters in the group. I wouldn't have even been able to justify slabbing these books without the discount. With a little luck 2-3 9.8's could change all that. At least I have some results to look forward to and speculate on in the meantime. Here's what I got, won't jinx myself by trying to predict any 9.8's but I will try to predict the low-end of the grade range:

9.4+
Albedo #3 (2 copies)
Amazing Spider-man 161, 168 and Annual 16
Batman 423 and 428
Daredevil 181 (3 copies)
Dark Horse Present 10 (1st Masque)
Legion Super Heroes 298
Micronauts 1
Thor 337
X-men 140

8.5-9.2ish
DC Presents 47
X-men 129 Pence copy
Marvel Spotlight 28
Swamp Thing 7 (signature verification needed)

5.0-7.5
X-men 95
Giant-Size Spider-man 4 (3 copies)

I sure hope they survive shipping. Anyone else got submissions and grade predictions to share?

I don't have grade predictions, and they're all press-screened anyway, but I sent (mostly) a bunch of X books. I went with the older ones for the discount since the membership coupons aren't as good for old but less expensive books.

I guess I'll guess grades anyway. You sucked me in.

GSXM 1, 4 or 5
Avengers 53, 5
Fantastic Four 28, 4
Marvel Super Heroes 13, 5 or 6
X-Men 6, 5
X-Men 7 x2, one 5 and one 6
X-Men 8, 6
X-Men 9, 6 or 7
X-Men 10, 5

You all have some really nice books going down. I might scrounge up a few for pressing and grading. May as well knock out some SA books with the sale price.

I sent in five books for grading at the end of April under the previous SUPPORT THE HOBBY promotion. They included:
X-Men #1 (1.0/1.5)
X-Men #71 (9.0/9.2)
Avengers #13 (7.5/8.5)
Avengers #24 (9.0/9.2)
and a Modern for VSP (9.4/9.6)
They should be done this week, I hope. All except the VSP were in grading last week.

Were they sent for pressing? If so, there is still a long wait ahead. If not, then you should’ve gotten them back already and it would be worth reaching out to Customer Service

@dielinfinite they were part of a drop off event with my LCS. But like the previous submissions, they don’t ever seem to know the status until they arrive. Part of the reason I got my own CBCS member account.
Post 13 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@HarrisonMade They definitely seem overdue unless they were being pressed. Working through a third party can be frustrating. Do you know if the LCS is open and operating at the moment? Perhaps the books have been received but the LCS isn’t operating? Or perhaps the LCS included others’ pressing books on the same order. Or maybe he hasn’t sent it in yet or sent it in later.

@dielinfinite they have been open on a limited basis. But they say that can’t check the status and the other party involved has no information. And I agree, they are overdue. A buddy whom submitted when I did already received his books back except for those that are being pressed.

Hoping that all the 15% off orders will deplete the supply of old slabs and they'll have to roll out the new ones.

Well, I was just about universally wrong on everything.
Thor #337 came back an 8.5 (I guessed 9.0)
Groo #1 came back a 9.8 (I guessed 9.0-9.2)
Moon Knight #1 came back a 9.8 (I guessed 9.2-9.4)
Astonishing Tales #6 came back an 8.5 (I guessed 6.0-7.5)

All in all very happy. Only disappointed in the Thor, but 3 out of 4 is pretty good!

I've always found that a couple of unexpected 9.8's can really help to take the sting out the disappointments.

Just got a few books back. Mostly to try out a new presser on the Pokémon and the Iron Man. Both definitely look better than they did but they still had some minor issues that could probably be pressed out.

As far as I can tell this is the first comic book appearance of Ash/Pikachu/Pokémon in the United States. There is a preview of this book that might have been released a few days prior but that depends on your stance on previews as first appearance. Also, since the label doesn't state otherwise, I'm assuming/hoping this is a first print (of 16!)

@dielinfinite Noticed your Iron Man has a check mark next to the grade. Is it that the issue could grade higher but there is something in the interior that is fixable so currently they are holding it to that grade?

@Cool_Fool Kind of but not exactly.

The official description on CBCS’ website reads:

The way I interpret that is that books of a certain grade are expected to have a certain general appearance, surface wear, accumulation of defects, etc.

In rare cases, the book’s unique accumulation of flaws results in a book that may sit firmly in one grade yet appear better than the accepted general appearance of a book in said grade

@dielinfinite Yep. I once got back a submission of eight books, all of which had the check mark. I had a few unpleasant things to say about said check mark after that.

@CatCovers So much for it being in "rare cases" as you had it on 8/8. Do you recall if they were graded a 9 or above and were they issues you had pressed? Looking to see if pressing made it look good but did not get a true bump up.
