I’m working towards a certain price point & trying to decide which book to target:

Upgrade my 4.5 Graded ASM 129 to an 8.0-8.5?

Grab a 9.6 Batman Adventures 12?

Grab a mid grade Golden Age first appearance that I consider undervalued?

Save up some more & grab a TOS 57 in 8.0-9.0 range?

ASM 129 or TOS 57.

Personally, I’d upgrade the ASM.

I personally would go for the Golden age, but then again I've been on a GA kick lately as the cover art is amazing, regardless if they are a first appearance.
I think high BA 12 is still available with patience in the wild for $300 or less...that and I don't see it as a very rare book.
The upgrades are always great if these characters mean a lot to you. I really don't worry about speculation anymore, and every book I buy is with an eye for going on display as I have no interest in a collection that sits in my closet..you'll never go wrong if it is a character/cover you enjoy and will always mean something to you personally.
Again, collect what you love and I think you'll do just fine. The caveat being I try to target books I've wanted for a while first that may have some movie legs, before they are pushed to crazy prices by speculators.

I’m leaning towards the Golden Age book due to rarity. The highest grade on the census is a 7.0 & it’s a 5.5.

The bummer is, the cover is less interesting than most from the era & the character that’s introduced, sadly, isn’t on the cover.

But on the plus side, it’s from 1939, when comic books were still in their infancy.

The ASM is tempting because I have a means to partially fund the upgrade with my current copy. But I do already have one, so that takes away just a tiny bit of the appeal of simply acquiring a different one.

And the TOS is tempting only because I think high grade copies will soon be out of reach.

It sounds like you would get the most enjoyment out of owning the GA book. And that would only be enhanced if the book that you consider to be undervalued starts to increase in price after you get it.

Spider-Man, then golden age. Then flip a coin on the other two. You already have a copy of 129 so that is important to you. GA are rare and usually a solid investment.

I’m gonna knock TOS 57 out of the running for now. I’m realizing I’ve bought & sold two copies to date to fund other books. This tells me how little Hawkeye must mean to me, personally.

Now is a very good time to buy ASM 129 - it's been soft in all high grades for the last year, and is starting to turn back north.

Golden age comics are always worth buying, especially firsts. So if you think it is undervalued, then I would try to decided between those two: which will give you more pleasure to own? BA 12 is readily plentiful. I would buy it raw and get it graded, rather than spend a premium on a graded version. (Thought sometimes you can get a good deal on a graded one at auction.)

@00slim, I guess it depends on what you hope to accomplish. If it's only an increase in value, the ASM is probably the safe bet.

Personally, I'd go for the GA book. There are plenty of ASM #129 and BA #12 floating around in all grades. Both are very easy to find and they always will be.

However, when looking for a specific GA issue, if you pass on a copy that becomes available, you might have to wait years (literally!) before a copy of that issue appears again. I know from personal experience. I'm still kicking myself for passing on a GA first appearance about 3 years ago. I've seen two copies for sale since... one restored, and I'd prefer not to have a restored copy, and the other a copy in substantially lower grade than the one I passed on.

Essentially, all these books are on my list. I’m just trying to figure out what to target first.

With the TOS 57, I may settle for a slightly lower grade simply because I’m not a huge Hawkeye fan. But I am slowly working on a TOS run.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
If you're going to get them all and the only question is timing, I would think about movie/shows and avoiding those potential bumps.

Punisher is evergreen but doesn't have a show or movie to hype around right now.

Harley was in a movie that already came out, but I'm sure they'll be talking about her being in something for DC again soon.

Hawkeye is supposed to be on a Disney+ show with Kate Bishop, but I think the timing there is all thrown off now.

I don't collect Golden Age, but I'm going to guess it doesn't respond to hype the same way more modern books do? So you can probably grab something you like roughly any time you have the money and target picked out.

I guess that would make my priority list Hawkeye, Harley, Punisher, GA.
