Holy crap was that article bad. Just a ridiculous sludge of hysteria and lies. A call-to-arms for the very stupid. People really read that shite?

"And we want strong immune systems. I don’t want to hide in my home, develop a weak immune system and then come out and get disease." Good lord. I know this is supposed to be some right-wing rag, but I read almost the same thing on a left-wing rag just last week. They called it "vitalism," and said the solution to the coronavirus is to stop eating sugar and processed foods, and eat more fruits and vegetables, and get a strong immune systems, so that way we won't get sick and die.

Funny how all the crazies, regardless of political persuasion, come to the same conclusions.

Whoops. Yeah, read this too late to save myself. Hopefully it won't infect my ad profile like clicking through to the Epoch Times did. (Oh, boy, was THAT a mistake! I hadn't heard of Epoch before, and didn't know what they were all about until I saw that, along with a subscription, I could get their "special report" on all the "proof" showing how China created the coronavirus on purpose. I suppose, to kill thousands of their own citizens? Who knows. In certain circles, China is the new "I'm not saying it was aliens ... but it was aliens." Anyway, now I keep getting their ads on facebook and YouTube.)

Glad to see that load of rubbish was deleted.

Awesome! Good on you, Gana. Give her your card after, tell her if she comes across some really old comics, to give you a call.

It’s the strangest thing these days where even science has been muddied to the point that people consider it “just another opinion.”

Having come from the journalism world, I see nothing, but negative opinions about the “media,” but usually from people who have never stepped foot in a newsroom.

I wouldn’t go to bbq place to get a tooth pulled, and I’m not going to a political commentary site to get medical information.

At some point, we have to value experience, expertise and education rather than strong opinions or passion about a subject.

Gana- freaking awesome that you’d do that for someone!

Kudos to you.

Definitely try RockAuto.com.
Much much better prices, generally, than Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

I just bought two Air Cabin Filters for my two cars for 4 bucks apiece. Autozone and Advance Auto parts were in the low to mid 20's dollars apiece!

I use them exclusively now for anything but the most mundane of auto related stuff (like cleaning materials, antifreeze, oil, etc...)

.... and just so that I keep my post <cough> Covid related, buying from Rockauto.com avoids me having to go into a store. Definite bonus points for that. I don't have to put on my man make-up. (mask, gloves, baseball cap, eyeliner (wait, how'd that get in there))

The "Hazard Pay" idea poses an interesting quandary. The current situation has created a perverse form of "unemployment envy". Typically the unemployed would be envious of the employed. But now the world is turned upside down temporarily and those Essential Workers have good reason to be envious of those who can make the same or more staying home and taking care of their children without finding daycare. Through a technicality I fall into the Essential Worker category, so I would likely be one eligible for that Hazard Pay even though I would not deem myself worthy of such. However, when I do go to work I am technically putting my family at risk by being around both co-workers and strangers. (I just realized from watching the News that I have all the pre-existing conditions of Kim Jung Un) lol.
The problem I see with it is that the payment is emotion-based rather than need-based. Many who are not working have greater need than those of us who are working. By the middle of last week California had only paid 1 in 8 Unemployment claims according to the local NPR affiliate. No way should I be getting a gift payment while these people are waiting for rent and food money. Also, many who are not working will not have jobs to return to and will need ongoing support to get through this. Essential workers, almost by definition, will have continued employment through and after this. Even though I might receive some myself, I would rather see any additional money spent based on the greatest need, not the greatest potential risk.

I should add one thing to this. Because of school closures, abnormal daycare cost is a real issue for some essential workers. It isn't an issue for me but certainly is for some at my work. This new hardship has definitely made some parents envious of the unemployed. I would definitely consider it fair to see them get a reimbursement to cover daycare cost or loss of work due to having kids at home.

@Nuffsaid111 true. I normally don't do this. But, her and her daughter and grandson just picked up the car & asked me if I'll tune-up her F-150 and if it is alright if she can give my number to one of her friends. I said sure.

Heck, I can fix vehicles, and paint miniatures on the side while getting paid by HP just to wait around. 🤔

This is like the 1st or 2nd time I ever looked at either of the Coronavirus threads. The suspensions took me in and I'm bored.

I'm glad I haven't looked here in the past after digging a bit deeper. I know for sure I'd be on the naughty list for a week if I started posting. .... lol.

My one and only contribution will remain about car repair. I need to do that to remain on the boards in a good place.

The suspensions make me sad. The upvotes on suspension thread make me even sadder. I'm happy to argue with anyone but I would never report someone. I've never wanted a single member suspended or off the board based on our arguing.

There ya go,.. you do a good deed and the blessings are returned in multitude. Word of mouth is free, yet very powerful advertising. Take advantage of your time off to earn some extra cash and chase down that comic grail your radar is currently focused on.

You made some great points here and mentioned some things I had not considered. The child care aspect of it all had never occurred to me as I dont have children but very valid.
One part of the equation that I sort of look at and toss back and forth is the argument always made against hand outs and everything..the economic dividing of wealth that gets so many angry and what not.
On the one side of it all it gets people quite angry and divided, but in a time like this of crisis it is almost a necessary evil. However the argument I see is..for those that aren't currently deemed essential and aren't making what they were, couldn't they go and work in some job or manner they were not previously accustomed to and wouldnt that more match the previous belief system being followed? I am not sure there is a solid fair answer to that one...
Trying to be careful with the post itself, the entire issue walks a fine line between political and economic..but my question and issue remains intended as economic based and not to dig into the political side of it.
A flip side to those not working who haven't been paid yet, vs essential workers is...what happens when they join the lines applying for work in essential jobs, and as new hires are given cheaper hourly or compensation rates than those already employed, allowing for the release of higher paid, and more well compensated existing workers?
It is a complicated issue for sure, and sadly a lot of peoples way of life has been seriously disrupted perhaps forever. Thanks for your thoughts on this , more for me to consider. Great post!

So, on a positive note:

I’ve got two comic stores I consider my “motherships.”

Over the weekend, they were allowed to open (Texas) and Sam De La Rosa went to both.

My understanding is he lives in the area.

He’s going to the LCS to buy and show support.

I guess from now on, I’m going to be a huge Sam fan!

Supernatural reference?

I watched one episode of that show, so I could be way wrong.

I think you told me this before.

My memory sucks lately.

If you can get down to Texas in September, Texas Frightmare should be happening.

Last year I met Tom Savini, Felissa Rose and Scott Ian from Anthrax!

It was a great time!

I was looking over the various forms of social media and it seems that the Stay at Home doomers that shout the loudest about "every life mattering" fail to look at headlines like:

UN Warns of "hunger pandemic" amid threats of the coronavirus, economic downturn

The article posted on NBC News has the following in it..."The resulting death toll could outpace that of the coronavirus with 300,000 people dying due to starvation every day over a three-month period, the agency reported."

Also, I've seen posts in which they post about the "grail/key/whatever" they are going to purchase with the money the government is sending out. Never realizing how tone deaf that makes them when people within the US line up for miles like this at food banks...

While it appears that small business was having a downturn leading up to the lockdown (commercial bankruptcies in the first quarter of 2020 ticked up 4%). More than 40 percent of the nation’s 30 million small businesses could close permanently in the next six months because of the coronavirus pandemic according to a poll by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

I thought this was really helpful for both understanding how some models work and also understanding why places are taking certain steps to limit the virus. Also, how important it is to have testing and contact tracing if you want to (maybe) avoid lockdowns before a vaccine is available.
