I received my books via FedEx the day after the original "Scheduled" delivery date/time which was updated at the end of 1st "Scheduled" day to the actual delivery day. Anyway, with the Covid crisis their new policy for most shipments is to drop off your box onto your porch without notice or signature even though signature is supposed to be required.

That could be a problem for some, like me. I have insurance on my collection and shipments through C.I.S. For shipments, they cover them if they are sent Signature Required, both ways. If no signature, technically no insurance. For the USPS, the carriers have been told to sign their names and leave the parcel on the steps. I wonder if FedEx is doing the same. Either way, it still leaves it open for C.I.S. to say it wasn't signed by the actual addressee. That opens up loopholes, which insurance companies thrive on.

They should still knock, damn it. They never do, even when sign asks them to do it.

To a point, it makes sense. But will the potential value that’s at risk, it would be nice if they at least offered pick-up at their local branch.

My last shipment, before the crisis, I had redirected to the nearest Walgreens Pharmacy. It was a lot easier than standing by the door waiting. Definitely the way I will do it for my next shipment (which hopefully will be the comics I sent in for pressing in December).

Yep. All my FedEx deliveries get redirected to Walgreen's. A lot easier that way.

@Trixster Is this company-wide policy (if so there should be something on their website, especially since signature options cost extra, which they would effectively no longer complete with the new policy)? Local distribution center policy? Or is this just a FedEx delivery guy being lazy? Because I know I’ve had FedEx deliveries where the guy signed on my behalf without authorization and just leave the package well before Covid-19 was a thing |

They will end up bankrupt and rightfully so if they can no longer be trusted to obtain signatures.

I've done exactly what @Donnied and @Gaard suggested for quite some time now... at least for the past year. Having packages routed to Walgreens, assuming you have one nearby, works great. I never have to worry about packages being stolen off of the front porch or about missing the delivery when a signature is required. I highly recommend using Walgreens.

I went to the website to see why I did not get to sign for it and it states that most shipments with signature confirmation will be delivered without it. So yes, it is apparently a company policy.

I sent my comics in late December and included pressing (no fast pass). By the time I get mine this health crisis will likely be long gone...I’m actually worried more about the resurgence in the fall/winter affecting my shipment at this point...

Quote:Originally Posted by Trixster That's not how FedEx and UPS are handling it in my area. If the package requires a signature, they still knock on the door. Ask your name. They then sign your name on the electronic tracking thing. Put their initials on the top. And leave the package for you to pick up. This way they stay a safe distance from customers but still have verification/signature of delivery. It's all good until there is a problem. I can imagine claims of "that wasn't me, I didn't sign or get it" being a problem as far as settling. But they are getting signatures and confirmation in a way that should work the great majority of the time. |

Walgreens? What do they have to do with your personal Fed-Ex Shipments? How does this work? Walgreen just accepts your packages for you out of the kindness of their heart? What am I missing here? Please advise how one sets up this arrangement.

Walgreens has a partnership with FedEx as a drop off and collection point. This is FedEx's way of matching the UPS stores, which gave UPS a competitive edge, better access to customers.

I started using the Walgreen's drop-off just a few weeks ago. So far so good. They will either text or email you a receipt. I haven't needed it for delivery yet. Right now one of us is almost always home.

I've been having my Fed Ex shipments sent to Kinkos/Fed Ex office. Once I get the tracking number, I reroute through the Fed Ex site. Pretty simple. USPS has been a different story. Last Friday I actually signed for a package, but it wasn't my usual mailman. My regular mailman has been signing for me but he pounds on the door to let me know I have something. Since I've been teleworking for the last month+ it hasn't been a problem.

I had an eBay package going out FedEx today, whereas I typically use USPS. Had it sitting in the front hall waiting to hump it to Walgreens. A FedEx truck pulled up with a delivery for me, so I swapped packages. Errand averted.

I almost chimed in a while back but I agree, Walgreen or any drop off post is the way to go. You get all the email updates you would if it goes to your house.

@HeinzDad You don't have to buy anything there. Walk in, sign for your book and head out. I seldom buy anything when I make a pickup. Even if you aren't buying anything, the piece of mind provided (no missed signatures, no packages stolen off the front porch), along with the fact that the Walgreen's drop off costs nothing extra, makes it a really nice service. |

I work for Fedex Express. No one is supposed to touch our scanners. We were also told that we are supposed to sign C19 and then enter the persons name who is getting the package. BUT if its a signature required, we have to visibly see someone there. we cant just release it if no one is home. Also, my UPS driver just left my Signature Required box from CGC right at my door while I wasn't home and at work. Some people are taking advantage of the situation at the moment

So i don't have to set nothing up with Walgreens? Just reroute my package to them. Show up with a Tracking Number? Photo ID? and sign for the package?

@BigRedOne1944 Pretty much. I do believe you need to have a FedEx account in order to reroute the package but that doesn't cost anything.

Luckily, signing up for a FedEx account is quick and easy ... and free. And you don't have to do anything once you have an account. I signed up about 5 years ago just so I could reroute packages. In that 5 years, the only time I ever go to FedEx's site is when I reroute packages. As far as Walgreen's, yep, just show up. I usually print out the email that FedEx sends saying my package was delivered to Walgreen's (just so I have the number for the kid behind the counter) |

@Gaard I just use the FedEx app on my phone. The tracking numbers to my address are added automatically and it has the option to "Request Hold" right in the app. Just select the Walgreens location and done. Sometimes it adds an additional day for some reason but other than that it's super easy
