I would most definitely use these USPS 109X boxes you guys are describing. They sound great.

Just a heads up that these boxes are not available at post offices (except the Med. Flat Rate). You have to order them from USPS.com. I suspect they don't ship out of the US. You would have to find a supply in the states, maybe through a friend or acquaintance, and bring them back with you to Canada (if you can??).

True! But you wouldn't want to use them from Canada anyway, unless you ship elsewhere in Canada, or some other country. In the US, if you use a Priority Box, you have to use Priority postage.

That is quite true @Tedsaid. I was picturing him driving over the border, going to a post office, and NOT finding the boxes he just heard about. What a bummer. And was also thinking that if he had someone in the States order them for him, he could possibly pick up that supply and bring it back to Canada. Then he could package comics for shipment ahead of crossing over to ship from a US post office.

I have used the longer medium flat rate box with one slab getting damaged during shipment. I actually believe it was a false claim by buyer to get a discount where they could get it reslabbed at CGC. I believe it was a Florida comic dealer near CGC. $20 discount was worth them not intentionally damaging the slab and sending it back. I asked for pics, did not receive them and blocked them from future purchases.

Thanks a lot, that's good to know. I woulda have expected them to be there when I showed up.

Yeah, they only carry the most common ones at most post offices. Sometimes they have a better selection in the larger ones, but I've never seen the 1095's there. I always order them online.

Most of the slabs I ship are under $200, so I'm ok with the PM boxes. If I ship a $700 slab, it's not going to be in the PM chipboard boxes. Well, it might be in one INSIDE of a 14x12x6 200lb. ECT box. I'm not taking chances with that. If it was HUGELY valuable, like a couple of thousand or more, triple boxing might be a consideration. I have no problem spending time and money PREVENTING a disaster. Much better than dealing with one.

If I had expensive books going out regularly, $1000-$5000 or more, I'd look into some type of reusable padded case made of wood or metal. Then include a provision to have it shipped back empty.
