Mile High II Collection!! What a Story!!11767

past performance is no guarantee of future actions. KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
So I just won 2 books that claim to be from the Mile High II collection (they will each come with a certificate of authenticity - who knows if it's real!!)

Naturally....I then had to look up what the heck the Mile High II collection was!!

There is quite a story and some real sketchy stuff there man!!
Wow Chuck...just wow!!!

Anyone know if this certificate is legit??
If it is and I get these graded would they get a Mile High II collection note?

So its just a certificate that says it belongs to a collection of comics owned by a place that collects and sells comics?

Apparently this was the largest collection that they bought - even larger than the Edgar Church collection. Sounds like they pulled the best 5-30 of each book and gave that certificate to say it came from that 1 purchase (Chuck bought 1.5 million comics in 1 go for $240k in 1985!)

All books were pre 1979

All very sketchy - the origins of the books and loan sharks and "others" seem to have been around too!

It's an 11 part story on the Mile High site..prison, pornography, family distrust, FBI, illegal comics....organized crime??

If these really are from that collection it would be cool!! Fun reading about it anyway!

they don't recognize the MH2 collection anymore as it was extra store stock/overage. The books are still beautiful though. I believe my GSX 1 9.0 is a MH2 book. I have a few others as well.

Reminds me of the unofficial Hilltop Pedigree collection. Some guy gives you a story, adds a fancy certificate with a stick on seal and calls it a pedigree!

It was warehouse find, then Chuck greased some palms to get Mile High II on the label for a while, right?

@Studley_Dudley not just a warehouse find but illegal books!! I guess at 1 point you didn't have to rip the covers off unsold books to get your money back, you just had to provide an affidavit saying they were destroyed....welllllll what could go wrong there!!! Get an affidavit so you don't have to pay for the books and you still have books that you can sell!! Sounds like organized crime was involved and the FBI came in to shut it all down!

too bad it's not recognized! Need to google to see if the certificates are legit - still a cool story to attach to the books though

Thank you sir. May I have another? Siggy private msg quote post Address this user
I've only purchased one comic from Mile High, decades ago, from a comic book ad; X-Men #50 advertised as NM+. I had it graded 8 years ago and it came back 9.6 OW
Wish I still had it

I have no desire to shop there now. I get tempted to look at their admittedly awesome selection, but then I get to the site and quickly change my mind lol

The certs are definitely legit and you can find some old CGC cases with the notation (similar to Circle 8 and Diamond Run...both warehouse finds as well)

Definitely the correct certificate. I have 50 or so of these books. I went to one of the early 80's(?) San Diego ComicCons and Mile High had a whole room to themselves. Stacks of comics from this collection, all $5 each. I spent my whole wad in that room. I got a 9.0 Fantastic Four 48 from there. Of course, I should have bought the whole pile of just those!

@KatKomics I've read it. It is quite the story.

@Donnied Yep, if only we'd known in the '80s what we know today. My kid's college would definitely be paid for.
