@BigRedOne1944 - No discount codes that I can remember recently, but if you click “Watch” on an item lately, you will probably get a discount offer from the seller that’s good for 48-hours. The discounts have been ranging from 5% to around 20% off the comic. I’d say I have received these discount offers on about 35% of the comics I have watched in the last 3 or 4 weeks. And don’t forget, if you bought anything over the last three months, your ebucks expire May 2nd.

I’ve been getting offers as well. Of course, also getting a lot of lowball offers on things I’m selling. I got one yesterday for a NYX 3 in 9.8. Listed on eBay for $800, someone messaged me with an offer for $150, saying he could “put that cash in my hand right away.” I added him to my blocked list.

@CatCovers I've been getting the same the second I list something. I'm like you gotta be kidding me. I guess there's folks that just expect 1 out of every 1000 people will take a ridiculous low price; unless they're just doing this over and over again (which would be the definition of insanity)... lol

@Nuffsaid111 Exactly! Have also gotten several “What’s the absolute lowest price you’ll take for this?” messages. Some of those I ignore, others I answer back with “What’s the absolute most you will pay?” Oddly, I never seem to get a response to that question.

I like to offer it to those chuckleheads for more than it is listed for. One guy sent a lowball offer that I promptly rejected. A week later, he sends a lower offer on the same book. I respond with my decline "If I declined your previous offer for the same book, what makes you think I would accept an even lower offer? You aren't even trying, so welcome to the block party."

eBay has not had a cash coupon in about a year, and their eBay bucks incentives have been 5% or less throughout 2020. And even then only a few here and there. I think around x-mas was the last time I saw higher than 5%. It’s been a slow start to the year for buying for me...I’ve come to rely on those 10-15% eBay bucks to offset the tax on items now... |

@BigRedOne1944 - You look too interested if you put them in your cart, John! I say let's conduct a little experiment to see if I am right. Empty your cart, then put the items on your watch list, and see if you get any offers in the next day or two. If not, you can always put them back in your cart.

I am the same. Have stuff in my cart and not a single offer. Maybe I will give it a try. I even offered a guy 10% below his asking price on a $400 book and was just ignored.

"Too interested"? some of those items have be in cart for over a year, so I don't really buy that. I have multiple Ebay listings myself with multiple watches on them, and I have no idea how to even contact those "Watchers" with any kind of offer. I always thought you were anonymous as a watcher, which is really how it should be. Now... I have had Ebay message me when people have my items in their carts telling me to "Go for the sale" by offering a small discount, which is set up through Ebay's Message, not by me. Those buyer remain anonymous to me as a seller, until a sale is actually made. |

Don't forget to check your settings about receiving offers from sellers. You may have it set to "off" because at the time eBay started it, that may have been your original inclination - seemed like a new gimmick you didn't want to get involved in. That may explain why you are not getting any offers. Now, as it has become an accepted way to conduct business, you may look at it differently. Just go over to your Preferences on eBay to find the setting. Sellers can't send you offers if you are opted out. For those getting lowball offers, you can set your listings with Best Offer to automatically decline low offers. Saves you the trouble. Just set a price that you find worthy of a starting offer, one that you could negotiate upward toward a decent outcome. Like a pre-screen. You can also set an auto-accept at a number you would take. That saves a step or two. You don't have to manually accept it, and the buyer is able to go right over to checkout. |

@BigRedOne1944 - Just for fun, I put one of @Scifinator’s books on my watch list yesterday to see what would happen. Voila, my email shows that this morning at 2:22 AM I received an offer for 5% off on that book (@Scifinator - I do like that book, but I have two raw copies and would only be interested in a trade for it right now). So roughly it took 12 to 13 hours or so to get an offer.

I've sent offers on my own, but I think ebay will send them on "my behalf" once someone watches a book. From what I've been hearing & seeing, I'm now being sent offers for books I've only looked at and not added to my watch list. For the majority of books that I add to my list, an offer does it come in. I'm not sure if it is a seller thing to send it or ebay sends it and that now makes up for not doing 10% off promos anymore.

Maybe it also depends on if the seller has a store or not? I can send offers but I have to choose to do it, and I think per item because I can add a message and choose how much of an offer to send (that's without a store). The items that I have OBO I receive offers for, and that's how I sell most of my items, but a lot of what I have right now is so close to shipping price that there isn't much of a difference between the offer and what's listed. |

About 30% of the time I get a counter offer. I picked up a Stephen Platt page of OA for a song that way, and a George Perez cover for a very reasonable price that way. BTW, my relationship with a huge seller of OA started by sending in a low ball offer. I buy from them on eBay 5 to 10 times a year now because they were and are so open to offers. |

@Towmater I’ve gotten my share of lowball offers. Most of the time I just ignore them, as it causes me no particular hardship to hold on to an item rather than sell it for less than a fifth of its value. But the lowball offers have increased significantly in the last couple of weeks, which I suspect is due to the offer-maker’s hope to take advantage of people in financial distress in the current climate, selling their valuables to put food on the table. And that’s just gross. |

My favorite is when someone lists an item for $50 and you send a best offer of $45 and it's auto-declined. I get it, for example, if someone offered $40 or less - but it seems if you're not even willing to consider an offer so close to the asking price you might as well not even use the "Best Offer" feature. As a buyer, those are the sellers I avoid. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Paint_Monk Agree EXACTLY. That has happened a few times to me. With an offer so close to the selling price, you'd think they couldn't hit the ACCEPT button fast enough. If even an offer that close would be declined, exactly what amount of Best Offer are you looking for??? The Buy-It-Now price? MORE than the Buy-It-Now price? (eBay won't let you, by the way) Why do you even HAVE Best Offer on your listing if you won't entertain a 90-95% offer?? Those sellers need a complimentary brain scan. |
