Hi everyone. Im Randy. I own a company called Legal Burning where i hand burn comic art on blanks...as well as wood. I was curious to see if any other artists are doing this medium of burning on paper for comics? Whatcha all think about the work ive attached? I just signed up with a CBCS account and am stoked about submitting more art for grading.

@Legalburning Welcome!!!

When you say "burning" do you mean with an actual open flame?

I have never heard of this so please forgive my ignorance.

@Legalburning - Reminds me of some wood-burning projects I did as a kid (hundreds of years ago) using a soldering iron to leave scorch marks. Very cool!

its not ignorance at all. I use heated metal tips at low heat...building up values as I go..similar to graphite drawing

If an actual flame is used I don't understand how the cover could stay flat enough to get a 9.8. One would think with a flame close enough to the paper to colorize/scorch it the heat produced would wrinkle or cause waves. Theres got to be something I'm missing here. It looks fantastic though.

I'm always amazed how much creative influence Spawn in particular has had on a generation of artists in various fields. All roads lead back to Spawn. Aptly named, that character.

yes, the tips are heated tips ..not flames. I get the books pressed before submission to get out small waves or buckles. I have videos of me burning on Instagram @legalburning

For me - Just toss out the grade because I could care less about a comic grade when there's an original piece of art this unique and nice.

Yeah I agree with that. To me, it's all about the art as well. Thank you for the kind words.
