FIRE SALE! MCS Auction this week, next week, and Quarterly Auction April 611554

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock Tedsaid private msg quote post Address this user
Hi, all. As you may already know, I've been planning to auction some big books in April's upcoming quarterly auction. It is not clear if people are buying more collectible comic books, as they often do during a recession, or if they are buying fewer. And, it's not clear if people will buy more or less online. They are not able to purchase their weekly fix, go to conventions, or even visit the LCS, but times are uncertain.

So, I guess we'll see! I've got 27 books in this week's auction, 17 so far for next week, and eight BIG books for the April 6th quarterly. I'll just hit the highlights today, but I'll add links for the rest soon.

Teen Titans #12 9.8. First appearance of Batman Who Laughs. This comic has become more affordable lately, and now might be the right time to buy. Current bid: $115

Justice League of America #139 9.4. A fantastic Neal Adams cover from the 1970's. Current bid: $13

Immortal Hulk #19 9.8 virgin variant. The hard-to-find "red" variant cover by Mike Deodato. (There is a 9.6 available, too.) Current bid: $51

Immortal Hulk #17 9.8 Comic Mint variant. Great InHyuk Lee cover of Hulk and Spidey. Current bid: $49

House of X #1 9.8 Comic Mint variant. This is the Emma Frost cover by Shannon Maer, limited ed. Current bid: $31

Green Lantern #48 9.8. First appearance of Kyle Rayner. Current bid: $53

Green Lantern #45 7.0. Second Silver Age appearance of Golden Age Green Lantern, from 1966. Current bid: $12

Detective Comics #327 7.0. First "new look" new costume for Batman - first appearance of the yellow bat-oval. Current bid: $31

Captain Marvel #8 9.6. First appearance of Star, now in her own series. Current bid: $17

Daredevil #188 9.6. Frank Miller's run on Daredevil continues with this appearance - cover and story - of the Black Widow. Current bid: $39

I think I am ambivalent for the first time in my life. I want to be supportive as always, but I feel slighted that we didn't get first dibs . I probably shouldn't stress over it

You're right! I should have. What sorts of things do you collect? I'll give you first dibs on something new.

Meanwhile, here is what's coming up in the next auction, for the 30th, and the Prime Auction on April 6th. First dibs for Arak or anyone else, just pm me after I post prices.

Okay, I wrote something and had to delete it, because I just remembered: we aren't allowed to put things up for sale in the forum with vague "make me an offer" statements. Which is a good rule. So, I'll come up with forum member prices for each and update shortly. And the rules will be: shipped to US addresses will be included in the price (and we can work out Canadian ones, I just don't know how that works yet). That's economy to the continental US, and you can pay for an upgrade. These will be shipped from MCS, so it's on their timetable, I'll have to email Este and ask her to send it. Payment via PayPal and I will cover the 4% fees. CBCS requires a policy, so: Returns accepted within 7 days of receipt.

Is that everything? Prices are good through Sunday. Thanks.

March 30th Auction:

GPA 12-month avg (7): $328; 90-day avg (1): $395; CBCS price, shipped: $315

GPA 12-month avg (2): $32; 90-day avg n/a; CBCS price, shipped: $35

Jeehyung Lee Virgin - Raw cost: $43; Slab cost: $20; CBCS price, shipped: $65

Maer Rasputin cover - Raw cost: $14; Slab cost: $20; CBCS price, shipped: $45

Dell'Otto 1:25 cover - Raw cost: $16-$30; Slab cost: $20; CBCS price, shipped: $55

First appearance Batwoman Beyond - GPA 9.8 12-month: $172; CBCS price (9.6) shipped: $79

Venom #1-6, all 9.8 1st print, one variant. #1: $55; #2: $65; #3: $135; #4: $95; #5: $50; #6: $40. All six for $389, shipped.

Dell'Otto variant; CBCS price, shipped: $50

"Secret" variant; CBCS price, shipped: $50

Bloody Virgin Limited to 600; CBCS price, shipped: $105

Secret Wars #8 9.4: 12-month GPA: $114; CBCS price, shipped: $105

2nd appearance of the Justice League of America; CBCS price, shipped: $195

First Uncle Scrooge comic; CBCS price, shipped: $249

First Jennika; CBCS price, shipped: $99

Oh my god this cover looks amazing in person. It hurt to even get it slabbed, the colors were so sharp and vivid. CBCS price, shipped: $249

Oh, man, that took forever, adding those prices. Now I remember why I don't sell stuff often on the forums.

Aren't these books already at MCS if they are in the next auction? Can't imagine you want to bring them back home individually to reship?

No, you're right, that would definitely suck. What I'll do is, I'll ask MCS to send them to whomever wants to buy one. Then I'll pay MCS for the shipping with my account there.

I actually don't know if they do that sort of thing on a regular basis. Este, the consignment director, has sent things for me a few times when I asked. But I'm not sure if it was a one-off favor, or something we can do on a regular basis.

So I'm just trying it now, to see how it goes, and I sent an email to Este, to ask her what the policy is.

Well, final bids are in, and I think it went reasonably well. Surprised Teen Titans #12 is so low now. ($265. A year ago it was $400.) But all in all, I don't see a trend in either direction, given the current situation with Diamond shut down and all.

But, I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks. If you have an opinion you'd care to share, here are the final bid prices for this week.

Teen Titans #12 9.8. Final bid: $265

Justice League of America #139 9.4. Final bid: $30

Immortal Hulk #19 9.8 virgin variant. Final bid: $72 (There is also a 9.6 available. Final bid: $51)

Immortal Hulk #17 9.8 Comic Mint variant. Final bid: $51

House of X #1 9.8 Comic Mint variant. Final bid: $76

Green Lantern #48 9.8. Final bid: $86

Green Lantern #45 7.0. Final bid: $41

Detective Comics #327 7.0. Final bid: $116

Captain Marvel #8 9.6. Final bid: $37

Daredevil #188 9.6. Final bid: $48

Batman #64 9.8 variant. Final bid: $35

Batman Damned #2 9.8 variant. Final bid: $33

Batman Family #9 9.0. Final bid: $40

Batman Last Knight on Earth #1 9.9 variant. Final bid: $156 (There is also a 9.8 available. Final bid: $31)

Batman Who Laughs #3 9.8. Final bid: $28

Daredevil #187 9.4. Final bid: $22

Daredevil #254 9.6. Final bid: $45

DCeased #5 9.8 Elite exclusive variant. Final bid: $86
