CBCS Pressing Update11521

@KatKomics @SteveRicketts has said that they’re hoping to be down to realistic turn-around times in another two and a half-ish months. We’ll see if they can achieve it. I pulled out all my pressing orders from CBCS

I think the next group of books will be to CGC - but only because I have a bunch of Signature Series books that I never had pressed originally (didn't know it was a thing) and I don't want to switch companies for the SS. Have to get a stupid CGC membership first though... |

I have to say that I am very disappointed in CBCS. By the time I get my books back which has been there since the Rhode Island comic con, it will be close to a year.

@vernpt27 I don't know....CGC took 6 or 7 months for me once with no pressing or global catastrophe to blame

So what all is CBCS doing to speed up? Do you just need more people or something else? Just curious.

Clearly they need to address this. While they are doing a lot of great things there and I really like the work they do, it takes way too long. I understand that there has been a pandemic but it was more then 5 months in pressing before things shut down. Tomorrow will be 8 months at CBCS with no end in site. I have never had books held by any grading company for more then 6 months. Frustrating and making me reconsidering CBCS in the future.

@Bobsaget @vernpt27 “what all is CBCS doing” & “no end in (sight)”...It has been fairly well documented that CBCS has a good product got slammed last year with an influx of submissions. While the Dallas operation (grading & signature) was able to absorb this, unfortunately Florida (pressing) was not. They didn't have the manpower and mor importantly, the space. Add to that, pressing is a time consuming beast. You simply cannot through more man hours at it. One would need more presses and space for those presses not to mention the time. It simply isn’t a several minute process, it is several hours and days. Plus, if you add capacity, you still have to and and train additional manpower. Well, all of the above was put into place a couple of months ago. 1) They moved the press operation to Dallas - which also cuts down the processing time for future orders as there will be no more 2-3 weeks lost shipping back and forth between TX and FL. 2) Being in Dallas now, they have more room to expand, add more presses now and if needed in the future. 3) More manpower has been initiated. All of what was done takes time to be fruitful and they seem to be moving through the back log at a fairly decent clip now. Sure, it can be frustrating, but I suspect a year from now people will be wondering why it takes 12 weeks for a press order as opposed to the 10 months that they are temporarily at right now. |

OUR MISSION CBCS Operations, LLC will expertly, impartially, and consistently certify and encapsulate comics using the highest quality materials. CBCS will promote the hobby of comic collecting with integrity, transparency, and a friendly attitude: educating hobbyists, welcoming suggestions, and promoting related charities.bold text I think there a fine company who wants to do right. I think they need to revisit the mission statement in regards to transparency. They risk alienating their most loyal customers which could impact future earnings significantly. |

@Scifinator - I am not saying that there were issues that were not in their control and that pressing time is a time consuming process. However, if something takes a year to do, I am not going to send books to them until I am confident that the turnaround times are in line with the market. If Market times are 10 weeks and you are 30 weeks, you have a fundamental issue in your business that needs to be addressed. In my mind, I and not going to use a services that take much longer than the market unless there is some unique competitive advantage which warrants the extra time.

I have dealt with both companies (CGC/CBCS), I don’t adhere to the sectarian Sniping Theory. 90% of the time I have been pleased with their work. My frustration has been when I’ve talked to people “IN PERSON” at cons and been given poor/incorrect advice/directions. I’m a Con junkie so I see these people 2-4 times a year. I mean we recognize each other on sight. So you can imagine my “WTF” attitude when the exact opposite of what we discussed happens. And all I get is, “sorry Mike, I don’t know what happened”. Keep in mind these are all good people. I believe that there is a serious disconnect between the people we talk to and the people who do the work. When I put in orders now, I try to leave as little to chance as possible.

Update: So in literally 6 hours, my October 31, 2019 submission went from Grading to Shipping. Therefore, 10 months in processing --> grading; 6 hours for grading --> shipping. I'd like to see that Histogram |

My god, I was planning on having CBCS press/grade another batch of 50 books for me as I've had three pressers in a row damage my books and I'm getting sick of it. Is it seriously a 8 month backlog to send through pressing?

I sent in books at a con July 2020. How long should it take to be received in the dashboard? And if it's 8 months now for pressing how much can be shaved off since this is a new submission? I realize the second question may not be answerable.

@Bobsaget I've never submitted at a con but my books were delivered by Fedex to CBCS on Tuesday and they were marked in the system as received by the end of the business day Thursday. I don't think there's been an official update to the pressing turnaround times.

@enaz13 Pressing never shut down due to Covid so they only closed briefly during the move. @agamoto People are waiting closer to 10 months (they are currently on books received October/November of last year). I would not recommend sending books in to CBCS pressing at this time. They are taking steps to improve and hopefully get turnaround times down to a reasonable level in about two months. I suggest waiting until then to see if turnaround times improve. @Bobsaget Submissions received at a convention could take a week or more to appear on your dashboard depending on how busy they are. Regardless of when they appear however, for purposes of calculating your turnaround time they are backdated to the Wednesday after the end of the convention. I wouldn’t count on “new submissions” being much quicker in regards to pressing. As I mentioned above, they are currently on books from October/November so there are a lot of people still ahead of you. |
