These books I've been reading for the second time while I eventually started to board them and put them in mylar over the last 3-4 days ![]() And I found 2 copies of this book in my collection that I'll read one tonight. Even though my collection is under 800 books it's funny to find when I accidentally duplicate books and discover them again when I'm bagging and boarding. ![]() |

I didn't realize until reading more about Firestar on Wikipedia, but she has been in very few X-Men books despite first appearing in Uncanny and this origin series being tied up in the Hellions and New Mutants.![]() |

@DrWatson has it right. She was basically a fill-in for Human Torch when they couldn't use him for the TV show, then her first comic appearance is the adaptation from later in 1981. First 'continuity' appearance is Uncanny 193 (a few years later), then this mini-series (the next year). In-story, 193 happens between issues 2 and 3.

![]() So I started this Omnibus ages ago. I wanted to finally put this to rest so I can move on to other books without having the nagging feeling in the back of my mind. ![]() I just wrapped up the Sentry storyline and I have to say...it has not changed my opinion on Bendis’ writing. I just do not like it. It basically amounts to walls of dialogue with weak action scenes thrown in because it’s a comic book and it’s a prerequisite, I guess. It seems to rarely be essential to the story. Often the action exists separate from the actual story and they just cut back to it every so often to break up the walls of text. The art itself is well done, for what it’s worth, though I still find it hard to believe that Bendis basically wrote half of Marvel’s comics for a decade |

Quote:Originally Posted by dielinfinite My vague memory of the Sentry storyline agrees with this. I seem to remember being mildly annoyed at all the text while reading it. On the opposite side, I'm reading the 12 issue Doomsday Clock sent to me by @HeinzDad. I've noticed over and over again images that are unexplained by text, leaving it to your imagination. A few pages later or even in the next issue there will be some text or another visual that explains or clarifies what you saw previously. I think that's a pretty worthy and clever use of the comic book medium. Kind of like solving a puzzle and you're not exactly sure what piece you are looking at until you come across other pieces that go with it. ![]() |

@dielinfinite I enjoyed the Bendis run, for the most part. I can see what you're saying, but I was also happy to see the Avengers get some love for a change. I guess they can't get Roger Stern out of retirement... |

Quote:Originally Posted by EbaySeller its called "THE ULTIMATE MARVEL GRAPHIC NOVEL COLLECTION". came out in Europe around 2012 9.99 UK cover price. this is a complete 1st run (although they later added some silver age stuff on and extended it to 80 or 100 or something). they were very popular over there so they did a 2nd run in a different order that gos way past 100. its neat because its a slightly different perspective on a greatest hits of the marvel universe (mostly modernish) and those great spines. I got this set for about $7.50 each including shipping. ill throw up some more pics later. |

Just finished the 12 issue Doomsday Clock. Started out full of exciting possibilities, but I wasn't thrilled with how it wraps up. In Watchmen one of the key tenets was that Dr. Manhattan could not alter the future. For him past, present and future were all the same and the future had already occurred before he would have a chance to alter it. This story completely disregards that idea and is pretty much built around the notion of Dr. Manhattan continuously altering the future. Book 1 introduces Marionette and Mime, two pretty compelling characters that get left in the DC universe when the story ends. I suspect DC has future plans for those characters. I might have to give these books back to @HeinzDad if that turns out to be a significant first appearance.
