What comic books have you read today?11515

Well said, John. I have been continuing with Airboy and so far I am up to this point:

The last couple days I have taken a little diversion and have been reading Starlin’s Warlock saga. When originally published in the ‘70s these comics received little fanfare, but later went on to become a very important storyline in the MCU. I like these “special edition” reprints from the early 80s. They are affordable, printed on quality paper and feature awesome wraparound covers by Starlin. Definitely a great way to experience this sweeping cosmic storyline. I am a huge fan of Starlin’s Dreadstar, and it seems that this series was almost a warmup for Starlin’s later masterwork, creatively speaking. Many of the themes from Warlock were expanded upon in Dreadstar. As for Warlock itself, it is definitely a worthwhile read, long on cosmic action and awesome artwork. Some of the issues are a little text heavy, which did not detract from my enjoyment of the comics but may explain why it wasn’t tremendously successful the first time around. Also it is somewhat derivative, borrowing from Moorcock’s Elric books in particular. Still a very worthwhile read if you have not yet read these stories, I recommend checking out these very affordable deluxe format reprints. And when you’re done, read Dreadstar!

@michaelekrupp

Oh, heck yes!

I loved those special editions. Those got me into Warlock big time.

Dreadstar- I loved that series. The first 10 issues were amazing.

I’m reading the Champions trade.

That series should have lasted longer, but oh well.

This was an ad in the last two issues, yikes!

Did you read the book the ad is about?

I don’t want to make light of a delicate issue, but let’s just say that maybe comic writers aren’t the best option for trying to explain such a sensitive subject.

It’s worth a read for the view into that time for sure.

@Jabberwookie I thought Champions was a book with great promise that never quite realized its full potential. The later issues were definitely better than the early issues. I have never been a huge fan of Tony Isabella as a writer. Some of his dialogue is just bad. I remember in one of the early issues of Champions he had Ghost Rider saying to Hercules “hop on back of my bike, big fella”. If that doesn’t sound dumb to you, try saying it in Ghost Rider’s demonic voice.😑 His work is full of stuff like that.

Bought a box of coverless comics for $20 from some estate sale on the east coast. They arrived yesterday. inside was a coverless Superman #12 from 1941, so I sat there and read the whole damn thing. First comic I've read from cover to cover in probably 20 years.

Wait, there was no cover, so technically, I didn't read it cover to cover.

I had only read maybe one Green Arrow book before, so I picked up the original first-solo miniseries (1983). I thought it was kind of meh.

Read the first issue of Aero last night. I really wasn't expecting much but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I'm more of a Image/Dark Horse guy but this was good enough for me to grab a few more issues and see where it all goes...

First book is X’ed #1, good concept a team goes into your mind with an avatar and can erase memories. Done well might hunt for #2. Second book is about the Marines that we’re stranded on Guadalcanal. Another one I’ll be looking for. Both came from @mountie73 claim sale.

Blew through this TPB. I'm a big Sixth Gun fan so naturally I had to read the follow-up story set in the same universe. If you enjoyed Sixth Gun I would say this is worth a look. My only complaint would be it covers a ton of ground really fast.

Read book 1 of March the other day and book 2 tonight. Book 3 is about as thick as the other two put together so it might have to wait for the weekend.

I've read these today after reading Venom (2018) 1-25 and Absolute Carnage #1-5. I'm planning on reading the other comics that tie in to the King in Black series over the next couple days.

I guess from a chronological order, The Movie comes after issue 34. I've been enjoying the fan letters. That type of stuff takes me back.

@Studley_Dudley I vaguely remember something about studio interest in a ‘Dazzler’ movie at one time. This is based on an unproduced screenplay, correct?

@00slim possibly. I think I remember reading something about it. Like Shooter had an idea for a film but the film ideas don't translate well into comic book form then the music label bailed and it just kinda faded from there. I'd have to look into it because I think I may be mixing up some details.

I didn’t jump on the original series till about issue #25. It’s cool to be able to start over again on the run in color. Bought some of the variants also which is usually a big no from me. Definitely check it out if your a fan of TWD.

DC (Rebirth) The Flash 12, 13, and 14. I fell behind on this series and I'm trying to catch up.

Done. The first 10 or so issues were quirky while trying to establish the character as A list. The back end of the series from about #21 on featured better writing. What can I say? Dazzler is a babe.
