Picking up some Jack Kirby Goodness. The "Key" Books are way to expensive, but there are plenty of others that are more affordable and often times much more appealing cover work than some of the expensive "Keys"

That occurred to me too..I shopped around awhile but between prices that were frightening and being unable to find things I came up empty..spent a lot of time and never did find the original wonder woman listings or I might have spent something

Every time I try Mile High I come away feeling stupid (or stoopid) on a couple levels. When I did actually find my book the 65% off raw price was still quite higher than a slabbed price on Ebay.
I'm sure there are deals to be found at Mile High but I think you have to catch them completely by surprise before they realize the book has any value.

That's precisely the kind of book I would have had Stan sign rather than defacing a classic silver age

I know a lot of collectors are anti signature and I get all the reasons. The comment seemed a little bourgeois is all. Spongebob be eating caviar while he’s driving.

ha lol okay..no I am not anti signature at all, I just tend to get mine either on the inside first page, or I choose a newer book that isn't a silver age epic. Us older collectors are more used to how folks like Jack Kirby signed, always on the inside.
Sometimes breaks my heart to see that FF #1 or Amazing Spiderman 1, with Stans name blotched on the cover in ink pen.
I own two stan Lee autographs myself, to be fair...they are both newer books....a Spider Gwen 1, and an Emma Frost 1, both slabbed witnessed books.
I collect autographs myself, although not so much on comics.

I personally love getting sigs. It’s a whole other aspect to collecting and provides a hunt and complications. I don’t own very many silver age books so I guess I never really applied those thoughts to a book of that caliber. I also don’t even know if I can afford a Stan sig, I’ve never really priced one. I think out of all my yellow labels I got all of them but two. The two I didn’t get were my books done by Cody Lockwood, the guy getting the sigs for the current cbcs promo.

I totally understand the appeal of signatures but they're not a huge desire for me .... that being said my Jack Kirby signed New Gods 1 will be buried with me. lol!

@Darkseid_of_town That book and signature is a thing of beauty!!

That book would look beautiful in a CBCS red label slab.

I meant to touch back on your comment and got busy with life for a bit GAC....some kind words for sure, coming from someone with a collection like your own.
I am not shy admitting that's perhaps my best book or favorite...I vividly remember the day I bought it. The owner of the shop would always put his best books in mylar up on the wall behind the register. I would always watch there and sometimes snag a bigger book on payments. …….the day I saw that one, there were two copies up there.....of Hulk 1. He handed me both and I had to choose..the other copy was perhaps a 5.5-6.5...much cleaner than this one and this one also has some marker on the spine.
But...this one had the Kirby signature. Dealer wasn't sure if it was real or not, but felt it was . At that time...maybe 1987 Kirby was alive and well and signing at cons...and signatures weren't the big thing then, they have become now. The dealer priced the book for me, with no upcharge for the autograph ….since it came with the book as it was.

Obviously we know what choice I made...today I still wonder why I did not argue and try to get terms for both copies. I put fifty dollars down, split the balance over three payments of a hundred each. I really miss 1987...

@Darkseid_of_town Great story! Love hearing stories like this. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. If we all new back then what we know now, our collections would likely look very different.

You've got a Kirby signed Hulk #1....that's incredibly special!!!

@michaelekrupp Great pick up on the Marvel Tales Books. They were always cool Reprints of of all the early ASM books that no one can afford to buy now. Even some of these reprints are becoming pretty desirable books themselves.

Happy Reading!

@KCBatmanFan yeah, I'm debating on getting it graded/selling it in the shop(even though its VG- at best, it's probably a GD/GD+) or keeping it.

I am going to do just like someone else and comment on the super stars of magic book...vastly under-appreciated Zatanna , and her first solo appearance in her own book
