I'm a hard core almost exclusive golden age collector these days, but every now and them some Silver (or Bronze which that and Copper i actually grew up on)age books find their way into my permanent collection.

This book came on my radar when it was spotlighted among others in a piece about innuendo Archie covers, and now it's an INSTANT fave!

Has ALL the other innuendo covers beat(pun intended,i'm looking at you #16) by a mile imho. How did this slip past the code? Or maybe you just had to have a dirty mind to interpret more than whats on the surface

Those are some seriously nice X-Books you have been acquiring. Beautiful Books! Congratulations on them.

@Studley_Dudley
I would agree that it is a common occurrence on that book, but I would respectfully disagree that it is Normal. The Print Run on the book is pretty high and there are a plethora of non-miscut copies listed on Ebay.

Mine has it too. It bugs me a little, but I'm not buying another.
Besides, it's only his 2nd appearance,

Just won (another) one of these at auction. Crisp first prints rarely hit auction for a low opening bid. I’m pretty stoked.

This is definitely getting slabbed in my next order.

@BigRedOne1944 Thanks! I hunt for it at every Con and bid on just about every copy that hits e-bay. I so want a 9.4 or better copy. My best to date has come back 8.5 from CGC.

You used to be able to pick it up all day long for $20-$30. Now it’s 2-4x that for a mid-grade raw copy.

I sold my CBCS 5.0 2nd print earlier this year for $100.

This thing is in tough shape. Obviously belonged to a kid named Bobby, who loved this book!

I think it adds character.

To answer your question and not make this polical, with big brother playing nanny police, I don't want to get the LCS in trouble.

That's far more consideration that you're showing them than they're showing themselves and their customers.

Just bought one for my wall, thanks.
Met a guy who did Archie covers 70’s and 80’s, through a buddy randomly, as my buddy knew me he said “ be careful, a strong Christian. So we had a nice conversation.
Turns out Archie was a very Christian publisher. I got around to asking him about 271, “pearl necklace” cover. He really had never thought about innuendo, and didn’t want to, such an innocent soul.
Perhaps just random luck?

@doog Welcome! Interesting story. The cover artist Dan Decarlo also did some early adult humor GGA pieces for magazines. Not sure if he had anything to do with the cover art in as far as dialog, but if he did have free reign, not a stretch to think maybe he did some of these with a wink for the astute double entendre crowd.

Was this by any chance, Al Hartley, who helped broker the deal with (and drew) the Spire Christian Comics: https://comicsworthreading.com/2010/05/14/archies-christian-comics/

I can say for certain that Dan DeCarlo (who I am pretty sure did the cover for Betty and Me #55, though it's not credited, and created Sabrina and Josie and Cheryl Blossom) tried to get away with as much possible innuendo as he could. He spent a considerable time cartooning for Playboy as well.

He was still at it in the 90s:
