| Marvel fandom has the Strange Academy first appearance as #1 of Strange Academy that was released March 4, 2020. clickable text  Here's the question, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #15 was released February 5, 2020, and has a 9 or 10-page preview of Strange Academy in it. Wouldn't that count as the first appearance as it came out prior to SA #1?  |

| @OGJackster while there are people who collects previews for first appearances they are in general not considered 1st appearance. | ||

| i think a preview only counts if its a preview of the actual book White widow #1 exists and is not the first appearance of white widow, a preview of white widow was sold at NYCC months before Sad Girl psycho Baby Preview lists as her first appearance and not Sad Girl #1 So i think title previews count while other previews do not |

| while yes, i agree. it is the first appearance. But collectors will disagree for some unknown reason Spider-man 2099 seems to be immune to this standard as his first appearance is a preview in a spider-man book |

Besides The New Teen Titans (which was the first), they also did it for Dial 'H' for Hero, Night Force, Captain Carrot, Masters of the Universe, and Batman and the Outsiders. As far as I can tell, all of these cases were original material not found in the premiere issue that was being promoted. |

I would think..... buy both and let the market sort it out. It seems these 1st appearances, cameos & previews have always been a finicky choice but the market always sets president. It’s like taking a card on 14 in Black Jack when the dealer shows a eight sometimes you win but the guy next inline will always have something to say contrary to your choice. 🤦♂️🤷🏼 |

| @GanaSoth that’s another factor in all this. If multiple/every comic in a particular month has a preview it’s like how variant covers kill spec value. Collectors want “the one comic” that stands out above all, ideally. Variants tend to confuse, dilute and discourage that mentality. I wasn’t aware of the Preview in Ravencroft. Were there others that had this preview that same week? So given that info, I would (if I were looking to invest) tend to steer away from MM15 and RC1, and invest in a convention, high incentive ratio, Or a character specific variant cover for SA1. Thanks to @GanaSoth for pointing this out. |
