@Jesse_O thanks mate.

One benefit of working in a seafood Dept in a grocery store.
I always get the freshest fish at great prices. Going to give one of the fillets to the mother in law so I stay in her good graces 😀

@Watcher no worries. The topic doesn't come up much here.

@Tedsaid for this discussion, it means the established political structure and politicians. Even the mention of a politicans name (of any party) is enough to set some people off.

Edit: I feel the need to say that the definition of politics may change. What I posted is the minimal definition.

A good article, on the importance of testing ... we still need to do more, unfortunately.

So far there have been over 357,000 completed test in the USA. That number is up almost 64,000 from yesterday.

I also heard total tests does not necessarily equate to the total # of patients tested. At times multiple tests are taken from the same person. Does this data account for that?

I have to wonder if the lack of conventions, and the closing of LCS will cause a glut of books to enter the market at lower prices? I ask as keys aren't going to be turning for dealers that use the traffic at conventions to move them and store owners are going to need to pay their bills at their brick and mortar locations.

@Towmater,

I was wondering the same thing, my LCS is in a mall and therefore closed. they have SA books that will never move, I say "never" but there's someone for everything, as they are priced 3 times their value. If they get into a crunch (as they probably are now) they may need to price their books at a fair (or lower) price in order to move them for cash flow.

I just got off a conference for a committee I chair with our Oxford trained virologist specializing in coronavirus. He...well, he's saying the same thing every other actual scientist in the health profession is saying. But...

He's giving a public talk today at 4:00 (for our students and their families only) that I got a preview of...if you live in FL you need to social distance IMMEDIATELY. He used some fascinating data. Many of those digital thermometer you point at your head and measure your temperature with are actually bluetooth based and they relay all the collected data back to the company, who then tracks the data. FLorida actually lights up as the highest outlier in current people having abnormally high fever while simultaneously having VERY low recorded flu instances, per capita. At present, this is being interpreted as widespread corona that has gone undiagnosed due to lack of tests. We outpace the "red" of NY by one degree of magnitude. For an idea of how bad it is. THey just opened up Raymond James Stadium for "drive through testing". If they get the expected "200 people/day" they will be out of tests by Saturday. There are like 3 million people in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties and an additional 1-2 million in surrounding counties close enough to try and use this service.

he also shared information I cannot share due to forum restrictions, I hope you get what I'm alluding to; treatment may not be what you think it is. Despite declines in viral load, symptoms DO NOT lessen. 30% of trial patients still had to go on ventilators, 5% still died. despite drastic viral load reductions.

I was just reading an article about Florida being a problem state, the governor resisting issuing 'shelter-in-place' orders, to protect the economy. Though he is closing certain industries - parks, gyms, movie theaters, etc. So there is some tension there, in terms of what needs to be done and how strongly the social distancing needs to be encouraged and enforced from the top.

Hopefully, they will strike the right balance.

It makes me wonder about the information that was left out about underlying medical conditions that may have contributed to their deaths.

Two things that differentiate some of these from Covid-19 is the short timeframe from onset to death and the ratio of infection/death (for instance the flu is estimated to be 0.1%).

It's also hard to tell where some of those numbers come from. They have links to WHO and other sources, but if you click through there's no obvious connection to the numbers on the website. They could just be extrapolations from old data (e.g., there were N cancer deaths reported in 2018, and we're about 1/4 of the way through the year, so there are N/4 cancer deaths so far this year).

The thing that jumps out for ne is at least about half or so of the figures given are done by choice...people choose to smoke, or have an abortion, or to drink.
Flip side, I dont think most people would choose to have, or die of covid 19......which makes it a touch more insidious than something chosen by the person

The thing that jumps out at me is that the chart leaves off deaths due to heart disease 647,000 annually and that almost 80,000 people die from diabetes annually in the USA.

Nothing like the USA's sedentary lifestyle to damage one's body. As Arnold said put down the cookie. I'll add go walk for 30 to 45 minutes a night. Don't do it around people though.
