You actually have a number of choices. Support health workers. Support small businesses and your neighbors. Demand better of Trump and his chosen, incompetent leaders. Demand better of his news source https://twitter.com/thefix/status/1240041548672380931 . Hopes and prayers don't stop bullets, viruses, or the President.

Trump and his administration has handled this perfectly. Unlike the last President who let 17k die and 61 million get infected because he was late to act.

This is no one's fault. The reason we aren't Italy is because the US is the best country on the earth and our leaders took steps to help us way before this started.

Interesting fox news clips.

It takes a lot to take ownership of past mistakes. I learned that you become stronger when you can say, I recognize I made errors and will try to not make them again. I think it gave me more credibility than if I were to to deny or change my story at the drop of a hat.

I think much of the problem and many of the issues were made many weeks and months prior to the issue in China, first by ignoring the Crimson test, and by removing the group within the National security council directly responsible for these very problems. The CDC also lost many of its top managers and leaders during the opening years of this administration, choosing to work in the private sector instead.

Defunding the very departments that work to control zoonotic illness, as well as removing 182 million from the group charged with early detection and response to world health issues was not going to bode well for anyone....all it needed was a spark.

Factor in the efforts to deny and downgrade the threat and publicly disseminate information that was knowingly flawed and erroneous......the administratin had been warned about this very problem and its ramifications during the test run earlier this same year.

I am not a trump supporter, but I agree with this statement. The country can decide how well he did his job and whether he can stay in office come November 2020.

BTW, the “Don’t Make This Mistake Again”
Red ball cap in the twitter comments gave me a good chuckle though! Trump should copywrite that now before it becomes a fad!

Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory, is level 4, which houses dangerous pathogens including SARS and Ebola.

Two years before the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus that has so far killed 25 people in China, scientists spoke of their fears about a new laboratory being built to study some of the world’s most dangerous viruses. The laboratory was built in Wuhan, the city at the heart of the outbreak of the new strain of coronavirus, that has so far infected more than 800 people. Overnight, China’s National Health Commission anounced the new death toll, including the first death outside the central province of Hubei. A fish market in Wuhan, Hubei’s sprawling capital, is believed to be where the deadly virus originated.

The lab, housed at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was built in 2015 and ready to open in 2017. It was the first ever lab in the country designed to meet biosafetey-level-4 (BSL-4) standards – the highest biohazard level, meaning that it would be qualified to handle the most dangerous pathogens. BSL-4 labs have to be equipped with airtight hazmat suits or special ‘cabinet’ work spaces that confine viruses and bacteria that can be transmitted through the air to sealed boxes that scientists reach into using attached high-grade gloves. There are about 54 BSL-4 labs worldwide.

I did just learn that 1000's of Chinese have been in Milan for the silk manufacturing and they do it every year. a friend just returned from Milan a few weeks ago and asked if there was a convention in her hotel because everyone was Chinese. they said they come for the trade/manufacturing. It may be why northern Italy was hit so hard and so fast

@Watcher Same goes for Iran and the Chinese tech workers there for the 2000 mile high speed rail they are putting in. Iranian health officials trace the country’s coronavirus outbreak to Qom, a city of a million people.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/irans-strategic-partnership-with-china-lies-at-root-of-its-coronavirus-outbreak-11583940683

According to the Wall Street Journal, “China Railway Engineering Corp. is building a $2.7 billion high-speed rail line through Qom. Chinese technicians have been helping refurbish a nuclear-power plant nearby.” Iranian medical professionals suspect either Chinese workers in Qom or an Iranian businessman who travelled to China from Qom caused the spread of the coronavirus in Qom.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/16/no-white-house-didnt-dissolve-its-pandemic-response-office/

In his Washington Post op-ed by former NSC official Tim Morrison, he said, “No, the White House didn’t ‘dissolve’ its pandemic response office. I was there. Because I led the very directorate assigned to that mission … for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious.”

Also he points out that the reorganisation made the directorate stronger by writing, “One such move at the NSC was to create the counterproliferation and biodefense directorate, which was the result of consolidating three directorates into one, given the obvious overlap between arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. It is this reorganization that critics have misconstrued or intentionally misrepresented. If anything, the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled.”

Maybe we all need to take a breath and step back from the political table. Stop with spewing forth the non factual talking points that are shown to be false or that certain people choose to ignore. At the end of day, Trump isn’t all good, nor is he all bad. I appreciate that he closed travel from China at the end of January. A decision many called racist at the time. On reflection, I wish he would have met with the private sector sooner to look for a way to get more test kits, masks, and other medical equipment out to the states. I can’t imagine the decisions that have to be made daily during this crisis. When you factor in all the variables and what has to be weighed when making them I’m glad I don’t have to either.

Sounds like level 4 wasn’t enough and they need to go to a Level 5 now...or maybe just say to hell with it and go to level 6.

And that comment is exactly the sort of thing Chinese right-wing pundits will point to in their own "I hate all Americans" rant.

We already know this virus could not have been developed in a lab. It is impossible. I know this because experts in epidemiology and biology and virology have said so. So while I'll largely ignore your bizarre hate-screed, I feel that bit of insinuation at least needs to be corrected, as being completely false.

It has been a ghost town all week. I know quite a few people who's companies took precautions and had them start staying at home since last week.

I had to drive into the city to pick up some 24x36 drawings from the office and it was a ghost town. I have never been in and out of the Holland Tunnel as fast as I was yesterday morning.
