I don't collect new comics for the most part, my son does, so it was strange to me when i got an email from GoCollect that had a list "new comics this week" ant this is what what was on the list 1. Mirka Andolfo Mercy #1 2. Outer Darkness Chew #1 3. Man-eaters Tomorrow Belongs To You #1 4. Strange Adventures #1 5. Strange Academy #1 6. Spider-man Noir #1 7. Marvel #1 8. 2020 Rescue #1 9. Star Wars Bounty Hunters #1 10. Birthright #42 What the heck!? why is every book a number one, except for Birthright? can someone enlighten me as to what is going on? and how is anyone supposed to keep up with a story or story arc if new number ones are (seemingly) coming out all the time? this, on the surface, looks insane. |

Bounty Hunters is a spin off the Target Vader mini series. 1 issues tend to sell more than other issues, so that is one reason. |

A lot of those are small independent books from creators that tell stories contained in short volumes or one-shots. A couple are new anthology series The last few are series for favorite characters that have briefly appeared in other series and one new team Basically just different material for different readers interested in different things |

I have noticed when I go with my son to get comics there are always new number 1's, I was just taken aback when I saw this crazy looking list of all (but one) number 1's. It certainly looks like a money grab and we all know variants (even though i like some) are clearly a money grab |

Yes there is attention-grabbing power in a #1 but that doesn’t mean there is a deficit of new ideas or talent (not to suggest every book is great). I see it as comics providing more artists the opportunity to tell more stories than had been possible before. Not all of them will be of interest to me or everyone. |

Several series also restart with a #1. Some creators take an approach comparable to a television season. For example, Red Team from Garth Ennis has two different storylines, both with #1's. IDW has put out a few GI Joe series that all restart with #1. I think it's just a way to try and sell more and/or distinguish story arc.

I didn't doctor the list I cut and pasted it. while you could easily be right and I could easily be wrong it looks nuts (to me). |

It is nuts. More so from the big publishers. Take me back to the old days where a long running Batman title would start a four issue story arc and say so on the cover instead of stopping the long running title. And start every new story arc with a issue one. How many amazing Spiderman ones are there ? A dozen ? .when I started collecting in the late eighties there were just one. Simpler times 🤪 |

1. Mirka Andolfo Mercy #1 - completely new series 2. Outer Darkness Chew #1 - new cross-over 3. Man-eaters Tomorrow Belongs To You #1 - new storyline 4. Strange Adventures #1 - new storyline 5. Strange Academy #1 - completely new series 6. Spider-man Noir #1 - kind of silly renumbering, but last series was 10 years ago 7. Marvel #1 - kind of silly renumbering, but last series was 25 years ago 8. 2020 Rescue #1 - completely new series 9. Star Wars Bounty Hunters #1 - what @Studley_Dudley said 10. Birthright #42 - not a #1 Yeah it seems like a lot, but the list covers a few different publishers and only one are two are the "call it #1 to goose sales" type. I'm positive there are more egregious lists. |

I’m guilty of feeding this beast. I am really looking forward to the strange academy 1. But, being a reader from the 70s and 80s, I do like it better when comics have their legacy numbering. It just always felt cool to be part of that long history and it gave you back issues to go grab. Now it feels like there’s no real continuity and characters personalities change based on writer. |

This is a new mini-series by them that further explores the Marvel Universe but is outside the self-contained story of Marvels. FYI, Marvels had a proper follow-up mini-series in 2010, though Ross did not return, which followed the protagonist from the original Marvels through Marvel Comics’ bronze age |

I agree that the 1 thing is vastly overdone …..I think you have to vote with your wallet....do not buy what is a reach for you or appears to be a cash grab and stick to the things you truly want and need. They wouldnt publish so many number 1's if there were not people grubbing those up in particular often as spec......
