Ebay BIN combined shipping invoice?11291

Collector DavidM private msg quote post Address this user
I've been selling some Buy-It-Now slabs on eBay and don't know how to set it up so a buyer can add multiple items and request an invoice for combined shipping.

In the past I had to refund the difference in shipping cost through PayPal, but that's not the best way to go. Any setting suggestions I should look for?

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
I might be wrong on this but I think only an eBay store can do this. Let's get more input though.

@GAC Thanks, I was wondering if I would have to open a store for that reason but I’m hoping for another solution.

@DavidM - Most sellers state that if you purchase multiple items and want combined shipping, to wait for a separate invoice before paying.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
You as the seller should be able to create an invoice and adjust shipping cost there, with or without a store. I haven't personally done it though.

To combine shipping, you need to send them an invoice before payment happens.
If the buyer wants combined shipping, they purchase the items, then you can send an invoice with combined shipping, then they pay.
I do that and I'm not a store.

Buyers can always put several things into the shopping cart and then request an invoice for combined shipping before using the “buy it now” button

This is what I do. You “commit” to buying the items (so the auctions are ended and I your cart) but await an invoice to pay.

It's like the Roach Motel for comic collectors. chester15 private msg quote post Address this user
You don't need a store to set up a combined shipping plan. You just have to change your settings on your eBay account to enable or allow combined shipping. First you have to get to your shipping preferences (Account Settings >> Site Preferences >> Shipping Preferences >> Allow Combined Shipping and Payments). Or follow this link: clickable text

Decide which method will work best for you - a single flat rate for shipping no matter how many ordered, or an added fee per added item. The Help section on eBay explains it: clickable text

Set it up, put some language in your description to let buyers know that the shipping will combine at Checkout, and caution the buyers to NOT use Buy-It-Now on each item. Mention putting items IN YOUR CART several times. You'll still get questions about it, people will still do it wrong occasionally, but that's the best you can do.

It is best to be proactive in this manner regarding combined shipping. Without it, frequently eBay will bring buyers directly to checkout so there may be no "commit to purchase" available to them without paying. That gets frustrating and confusing for the buyer. You don't want to do refunds anymore because PayPal no longer refunds the original transaction fee, which can be substantial on a high dollar purchase. Also, eBay keeps the FVF on the refunded shipping, unless you call each time to try to get it credited. So if you had to refund $30 shipping, you have to try to retrieve the 10% fee ($3).

Usually putting the multiple items into the cart and requesting an invoice WILL work. The buyer is committing to buy those specific items, and depends on the seller to do the right thing in the invoice process. But a lot of buyers will balk at that, knowing that they have committed but don't know exactly how much the seller will decide to charge for shipping. You can lose sales that way.

Changing your price and offering Free Shipping can solve the whole problem, unless it is not practical for you to offer that.

@chester15 Thanks for the detailed answer, and thanks to everyone who answered. I’ve set it up as suggested and will see if that works (that is if I set it up correctly).

I’m going through my reading collection of books (about 20,000) and trying to trim it down to a manageable size while slabbing the more valuable ones. Like many others here, some of the books are being sold to help fund slabbing the ones I want to keep.

I hope to list some more in the next few weeks and will offer them here first to see if any of you guys are interested.

Cheers!
