Customs Duty for International CBCS grading11248

Collector no1lufcfan private msg quote post Address this user
Hi guys as stated this question is mainly for International CBCS customers who may or may not have experienced the same problem.

I have only ever sent 3 books to CBCS for grading and its bad enough they had to be returned but FebEx Ireland are now demanding I pay 42.52 euro in Duty and Tax.

Now I know we have a few International members on the forum (especially UK) so has anyone else had this problem?

I have explained to FedEx that these books were my property sent to USA for evaluation and returned to me so there should not be anything to pay.

I have purchased multiple largish graded books consignments from ebay.com plus once from an ex boardie in Canada and never had this problem.

CBCS returned forms clearly state that the books were RETURNED GOODS so why FedEx do not appear to understand is beyond me.

I'm not sure about your particular tax regulations but in Canada as long as you say even beyond the 'returned goods' that this was just for appraisal services then yes - no tax or duty are required to be paid.

FedEx has had a hard time understanding this here too...I don't remember the form name or # but FedEx does have a waiver where you can sign attesting to the fact that duty is not required and that these are your own goods sent and returned.

Good luck - their customer call centers are better than most but the bar for 'better' is pretty low!!

At what point would you fill out that FedEx form?

@Edge328 sadly when I've gotten the bill for duty/tax I've always already had the books in hand - made it a lot easier for me to tell them I'm not paying!!

I then had to stop at a local FedEx distribution site to go in and sign the form.

After a few times of that I've been shipping to a US mail service that I can go to at lunch or after work - the boarder guards always just waive me through - never any duty for own books!!

Recently I've used the CBCS Canada service and they clear all that for you - easy peasy!!!

Well I have just got a letter from a debt collection agency that FedEx passed on to.

Strong emails sent to both companies 👿

I've received letters from FedEx attempting to collect and I call them every time and tell them that I did not internationally purchase anything other than an evaluation of my previously owned property. Once I say that they don't try to collect anymore.

I have nightmares with the company that runs Fedex in El Salvador. They demand I pay for storage and duties and taxes and hold my items as ransom. I hate Fedex and don't use them anymore unless an unscrupulous dealer lies to me about not having to pay anything and then disappearing when I claim about unscrupulous costs.

It sounds like the dealers are probably not lying to you intentionally. They probably have no idea what you deal with as it is out of the ordinary.

The fact of the matter is I told them about it as I had had prior experience with Fedex, mind you with the same person shipping to me, she promised I wouldn't be billed this time. Guess what? It turned out to be a lie again!
