@GanaSoth it'll be interesting what he says. But from what little digging I did, I don't think he normally does much for internet sales.

I'll probably hit the shop tomorrow to check it out.

Oh! I just remembered where you are. I was in Charlotte this weekend, and called Heroes about Batman #89. They were out. But I didn't call until Sunday, so that wasn't really unexpected. I didn't have a chance to stop by, as I was only in town a few days.

Did you try Heroes today? I went by Rebel Comics on my way out of town Tuesday, but they didn't have any of Batman #89, and I didn't ask about HA #3. Did you try ... A. Pennyworth's? I just recently heard about that place, but haven't visited yet. Looks pretty cool, though.

I guess there is a long-time shop in Gastonia? Somebody I've seen at conventions over the years, though I've never been to the store. Can't find it now, though, so maybe not? Or maybe he retired ... I seem to remember reading something about that.

I just remembered where I heard of him before. He spoke at the Retailer's annual summit in Charlotte last year. There he laid out a 10-point plan for saving the comics industry. I will re-read it now, but I remember thinking some of his stuff sounded like bunk and some had merit.

Yeah. I bought the last copy of Batman #89 at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find... Haha. But Heroes was out of HA #3.

The shop in Gastonia is gone now, but there is one in Belmont (right beside Gastonia) called Doc's Basement. I haven't went to "A Pennyworth" yet.

I saw the rant. Shops don’t go out of business because of speculators and flippers. They go out of business because the owners made poor business choices. Like opening up a shop when there were already 23 in the city.

And his rant with all the profanity is immature, and therefore doesn’t get his message across effectively. In fact, I don’t even care about his plight, even if there’s some validity to it.

But I don’t see a point engaging with him when you see that’s how he carries himself professionally. Why bother.

That reminds me. I spoke with another Comic Shop owner today and he said that two North Carolina guys went to NY at Midtown Comics, and they were selling HA #3 for $50 a piece, limit 2 per customer.

There are a LOT of the error copies here in Colorado; many purchasers never looked in the books and sent them to graded or just sold online from the off.

Also, what's the price point someone has to sell a modern book at to turn a profit and get the books back to people by the late part of March which some sellers are offering.

Just curious and would like to learn more about sellers that do pre-sales of 9.8's.

Diamond and the whole industry is set-up to bleed the local shops dry so they have to do whatever they can to possibly make ends meet; including jacking-up the price on a not-even-released-yet comic that likely cost them $0.50 and already had a cover price of $4.99....oh....is that not what you meant?

I looked around a bit but never did find copies of either book priced where I would consider buying one ….I dont think MCS ever even offered these at cover price that I can tell or if they did, they were gone in a puff

I think you are right about MCS. They had the Batman for awhile, but never HA #3. I clicked on the thing that will alert you when they get some in, and haven't received an email yet.

I acquired two copies of BM89 (A and a B) for cover from MCS. HA3 went up and I grabbed a cover A for $10...wasn’t quick enough to grab cover B for $12. So all were offered at or just above cover initially. It was literally seconds once they went live....and Available copies of HA3 kept going live on MCS over the next hour at higher and higher prices ($12...$15....$20....$25...).

Well. I closed the deal on my second HA #3 today; my first copy being from The Comic Mint. Yesterday when I called up the owner at this particular shop, he said the price is $40. This morning when I arrived, we introduced ourselves, conversed about two hours while I browsed his shop, taking about comics, music, work/business etc. Got a few Scooby-Doo comics for my wife, cause as I can't come home empty handed..... He asked me which comic shops I frequent, and I told him, naming them off one by one, which he's familiar with (of course). I then told him about my old favorite place that closed down due to the owner retiring about four or more years ago called Dave's Comics in Fort Mill, SC. And come to find out, he is actually good friend with Dave; small world.

His Comic shop had to be one of the best stocked, best designed, and best priced shops I have seen at any comic shop. And I travel all over the States cause my job requires it, and I normally hit up comic shops wherever I wind up.

I ended up getting a few back issue comics, and a few new comics to go along with my second copy of Hell Arisen #3 and get this, he only ended up charging me $30 for it instead of $40. I think I found a new favorite comic shop which is about two and a half hours closer than the ones in Raleigh, NC I go to. And Charlotte, NC might be closer, but add up all the busy traffic, then the travel time is almost equal.

The name of the shop is called "Heroes and Dragons." They give you a membership card on your first purchase if it's over $25 and for every $25 dollars spent, they give you a punch out on that card. After getting 10 punches, you get a $25 gift certificate to be used on anything in the store! Guys, that's incredibly smart! You know you're going to spend the money anyways, might as well spend it on a place that pays you back eh? The owner is a very cool guy to boot.

Pic of the perfect condition AH #3 I bought at Heroes and Dragons.

Guys, I'm right about them lying and placing on FeeBay.

Wednesday I drove to Raleigh, NC to a comic shop named "Ultimate Comics" and I greeted them at their door while they opened it for business that day.

I asked about the Hell Arisen #3 and got told right to my face "we're already sold out, unless you got a sub for it, sorry man."

Then after looking at their FeeBay page today, a day after going onsite, guess what?

They lost my business....

@Towmater I asked an employee there over the phone a week or so prior to the release date of the comic and I was told they would have some in. Told me they have three stores and a warehouse so it should be no problem.... didn't ask for my name or anything.

@Drogio Yeah, it was about $25 in gas and my time wasted.... and no it wasn't the nearest shop, but they opened at 8am the other shops times are as follows: another at 10am, then another shop at 11am, and another opened at 2pm...

I'm becoming convinced that, to get these hot comics, you have to have a couple different sources online, and have a pull list or a good relationship with an LCS. I haven't had much luck on the very short run Hell Arisen #3 by just dropping in, even first thing on Wednesday. Most said only their pull listers got a copy, and many of those didn't get filled. (Of course, my main LCS let me have one copy at cover, which was awesome.)

FYI, I'm almost certain I've met Dave Hinson at HeroesCon before. I think I even bought a Four Color #386 from him when I was a teenager. But I've definitely seen a few posts from him over the last couple of years, via Shelton on Facebook. Great guy.

I'm glad you had a good experience at Heroes and Dragons. Haven't been there or heard of it, but I'll have to stop in after your glowing review!

If you drive through Knoxville on your job, I've just found a couple nice places there this last trip. Didn't get a Hell Arisen, but one place said they might get some in tomorrow, and I should call to see.

@Tedsaid Nice. Definently give me some names of a few good places you've visited. Next time I'm in that area, I'll hit them up. This coming Monday I got to install an HP R-2000 printer in Savannah, GA, then train the operators on how to use it. I'll be there all week, so I'll be hitting up a few new comic shops I haven't been too before while I'm there.

Next Monday, 3/9 I gotta do an install in Mooresville, NC. Another R-2000 printer. (My favorite one actually, out of all the ones I install and train customers on.)

And Dave's awesome. I would drop in just to hang out with him a little while when I didn't have anything to do, just to talk about anything and everything. Did you know he was first going to open his shop in the city of York (where I currently live) but went with Fort Mill instead cause the building owner in York was a greedy sob so Dave didn't accept it. That would have been so cool to have a LCS that's actually local!

@BrianGreensnips Upsate NY all the way over to Minnesota and down. It's a huge area. But normally my "true" area consists of NY, down to FL. All along the east coast. On occasion having to travel further out towards the midwest.
