I am not a flipper. So, can someone walk me through the process of a seller doing a pre-sale on a hot book and guaranteeing a 9.8 slab? If a book like Batman 89 is sold out how does a seller get enough copies to guarantee 9.8 to all the people that purchased them? Also, what's the price point someone has to sell a modern book at to turn a profit and get the books back to people by the late part of March which some sellers are offering. Just curious and would like to learn more about sellers that do pre-sales of 9.8's. |

@Towmater they probably put up only five copies as a pre-sale 9.8s. They more than likely preorder from Diamond in advance about fifteen copies that they are going to send in to get graded; Fast Pass. They pay for the prescreening and tell the graders to only follow through with the slabbing if they can get a grade of 9.8

Maybe that's why they sold so many? |

@Gotlift yeah. Once they see the first prints are sold out, they realize that if it's hot, then get it (2nd & 3rd prints) out ASAP or else lose the money.

What happens if this turns into a Teen Titans 12 type issue? Not saying it will or if she has the staying power of the Batman Who Laughs, but who knows. I wonder what the print run on the books in question are on Batman 89 (both variants) and YEAR OF THE VILLAIN HELL ARISEN #3.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. | xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
@Towmater Could be like Gana described, or could be orders from a different seller. Especially for variants, places like Unknown Comics or Comic Mint will have an option to order a 9.8 slab. Then they go through the process Gana described but probably at a larger scale. If you were going to resell one of those on eBay, you'd have to mark it up over whatever the seller's price is but you would know for sure you're getting a 9.8 and when you'll have it.

@xkonk So, there is enough profit to be made if you sell them for around 70.00 plus 9.99 shipping like in the listings I provided?

@Towmater couldn't say, I haven't seen that particular book in the emails I happen to get (or didn't pay attention to them). In general it depends on if it's an exclusive variant or not, a ratio and how rare, virgin cover or not, etc. But for example, the last email I got for this situation was for the Peach Momoko Spider-Gwen cover that folks were making fun of in the other thread. You could get the regular comic for $10, a regular and a virgin for $50, regular CGC 9.8 for $58, virgin CGC 9.8 for $90, verified signature for more. Shipping would be whatever Comic Mint charges on top. |

But I did hear they opened up HA #3 for additional sales after the new character announcement, after Final Order cutoff. So the word is, HA #3 won't be shorted, but Batman #89 might be. |

@Tedsaid yeah. And if HA #3 goes into a third printing, it's probably also one to get. Look at Naomi #1, 3rd print. It's worth more than the 2nd print and almost more than issue #2 1st print.

Quote:Originally Posted by Towmater I would prescreen them myself and get all the ones I send in graded. A few 9.6's can easily be sold at a discount. But yeah, it's pretty much how Gana described. Basically, it will cost $20 per slab, if you include shipping and membership discounts. The comic itself is about 50% of retail, so each is maybe $3 total. So you are talking $25 per slab, tops, and most will be 9.8. It's a good business model, if you have enough customers to buy bulk. And The Comic Mint has a LOT of customers. |

Quote:Originally Posted by GanaSoth You know, I'm old school on 2nd, 3rd, etc., printings. I just don't get how or why they would be so valuable. Unless it is a completely new cover art or something, I usually just ignore them. But I know it's a thing now, since the print run is so small, and a lot of people collect 'em. Same thing with Whitman reprints, you know? Those used to be one step up from trash, always reader-beater copies. But I guess that made them hard to find now, so they are suddenly very valuable. |

How many 2nd and 3rd prints have become valuable? What are the big ones? I never paid attention to them. Only one I can remember is the cool Anti Venom one. I thinks it was the 2nd or 3rd print of ASM 569.
