| Some background: I have two (2) comics: -New Mutants #1 (19-3E1FB61-002) -New Mutants #6 (19-3E1FB61-003) These comics obtained Personal Authorized Witness Approval and are Yellow labeled. They were both signed by Bob McLeod at the Akron Comic Con (Akron, Ohio) on Nov 2, 2019. My question: Chris Claremont is coming to Cleveland, Ohio in May 2020. I have already submitted and obtained Personal Authorized Witness Approval to submit comics to CBCS. I want to break the case on the two aforementioned slabbed comics, get Claremont to sign them, and resubmit them to CBCS. #1: Has anyone ever cracked the case and is it easy/hard? Any recommendations? #2: My expectation is that both books will come back Yellow label indicating two (2) signatures obtained on separate dates (McLeod, and now Claremont), will this be the case? Since CBCS graded them the first time, do I need to provide any historic or additional information? Thanks again! |

| Don't open the slabs until you are onsite with the CBCS rep. As long as they see it's sealed, officially "yellow" labeled, it will remain yellow after the new signatures are witnessed. The CBCS rep will record/obtain the old labels info to add to the newer labels. You can also have your precut windowed bags with backing boards ready after the removal of the comic from the slab. This way you have a placement of where you would like the signature to be placed and it helps keep the comic protected. At least, this is what should happen. |

| @danmalek466 1. The outer case is not difficult to open. You break off the clips at the too and bottom. The nerve racking part is removing the book from the inner sleeve which involves bringing a blade uncomfortably close to your book. Basically just take it slow and be careful. If there does happen to be a CBCS booth at the event they can crack the book for you 2. Yes the book would get 2 signatures on the yellow label. What you have to do is include the book’s previous yellow label with the book. I always include all the signatures on the submission form, not just the newly added ones. Finally, don’t forget to write your AW authorization code on your invoice before submitting the books to CBCS |

| @danmalek466 Wish I could talk you out of cracking those books for a Chris Claremont signature. While I've mentioned my eternal respect for Chris Claremont the writer in a previous thread, he's no artist and his signature on a cover is not a pretty thing. | ||

| Personally, I like Claremont's signature. It isn't a designed or stylized (artisty) signature, but it's pretty distinctive and he has an opinion on where to put it. Besides that, if you're an X-Men fan you have to appreciate Claremont. The guy is a giant. I guess if you were really put off by how it looks but still wanted the sig, you could get it on the first page and then never see it again after it gets reslabbed. | ||

| I think generally people have more confidence in a witnessed signature over one that has been verified to a degree of certainty. We have heard many people come to these boards to complain that a signature that they saw happen themselves not get verified and we have to assume that at least some less than authentic signatures may have slipped past (not to say that the witnessing system is infallible, of course). I think that’s the main reason though I’d imagine a few others contribute. First off, this is a service only CBCS currently offers and CBCS is still the newcomer to a market that has been dominated by CGC for years so as CBCS continues to gain acceptance in the market then I imagine their red labels will gain more and more acceptance as well. Finally, there’s a financial issue. Red labels are, in most cases, significantly more expensive than a yellow label. If you’re getting multiple signatures on a book you’re only paying $5 on top of any fees the signees may charge to get a yellow label. For a red label you’re paying at least $15 per signature on a book, on top of the signees’ fees. Sure some people charge more for their signatures if the book is being witnessed but it’s only in rare cases that the red label makes more financial sense |
