CBCS: Comics You Just Got Back11148

Some observations: 1) The new cases are the best! 2) No foam pad between slabs again - was that only temporary, or maybe they ran out? 3) The X-Men #67 and SS #4 are thick slabs - they barely fit in the plastic sleeves - it was almost impossible to remove the slabs without damaging the sleeves. 4) Buy the book and not the label. If the book looks good to you, even though it is in the "wrong" label, and if you can get it for a fair price, it could be worth the risk. With regards to Observation #3, I have switched from using Hot Flips CGC Standard Size Flip-N-Stick graded bags (way too tight for the new slabs) to BCW Graded Comic Book Bags that are 9" x 14" with resealable closure. Even the thicker slabs fit nicely in them (they are 2 mil Polypropylene and fairly cheap to buy). |

@esaravo Great books Ed!! Love the new slabs...they are the best slabs by far on the market right now. I sent about 10 books to re-holder just because of the new slabs. Your books look awesome in there!! |

@esaravo Love the colors on that FF 75. SS #4 is my favorite cover of all time. Great looking books.

Angelo, Brian, Mike - thank you. I didn’t get any of the X-Men from you, Mike. I purchased the #67 and #84 from two different eBay sellers, but I did get the #164 in a trade with another Mike on the forum (@Darkseid_of_town).

But now that I’ve put some CBCS books into my display case it kind of sticks out to me. I’m usually looking for the quickest and cheapest fix and I think simply putting a border color around the outer edge of the label would improve it immediately. The only subjective part would be in trying to pick the right color border for the different color labels. I imagine that would take about 30 minutes of looking at options and arriving at consensus. |

@EbayMafia the labels aren't so ugly that it would require effort to beautify them. I heard Steve in an interview state that he didn't want the label to distract the attention away from the comic. I think enhancing would be nice. Still very satisfied with the whole package

I've heard complaints of the labels as well. Personally, I really like the labels. I'm glad there's no box for the grade. I find the labels to be clean, simple and classic. The CBCS logo is very tasteful and elegant. The blue colour is appealing in my opinion. It does what it's supposed to do, provide the numerical grade, info about the comic and which grading company. It doesn't try to be the "star" of the slab (the comic is the star) or compete with the book. The only change I'd support is better paper stock but I'm perfectly happy with the current paper stock as well....just my 2 cents.

Quote:Originally Posted by EbayMafia I did design work in sign shops, print shops and screenprint, so I have a lot of experience in making something actually work in the real world. It's a great skill now, as I handle the logistics of our tradeshow booths, and can help the boss' wife (head of marketing) realize her vision while keeping the expense at a minimum. Fun story: Years ago, an architect designed a 3'x8' sign for a new neighborhood and specifies sandblasted redwood. As standard procedure, I tell him that the redwood blanks are, industry standard, 1" shorter in width and to allot for that. The architect gets upset and demands that the sign be exactly 8' wide, in one piece (nothing glued to the ends). I send over a new estimate that is $250 higher (cost of the 3'x9' piece and additional labor to cut it down) to the architect and his boss. Next day, I get the cad files for a 3'x95" sign. ![]() |

I have to admit though that focusing only on short-term profit and loss does limit my ability to grasp the grander long-term vision that others may be pursuing. My personality is best suited for small companies that have to concern themselves with month to month survival. |

From the October pressing promo (and maybe a vintage one? I don't remember). Apologies for the glare-y pictures! This was my upgrade from a 4.0 with a loose centerfold. Not keen on a married wrap but I guess that's ok. ![]() And some more of my Uncanny run. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I sent these in on the Sept 2020 Moden2020 promotion. One of the main reason was that there was no other copy on the Population Report. Happy with the grades and was surprised by the 9.8s ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I submitted these using the "MODERN2020" promo code back in late September. I also submitted them for a press screen and fast press, where applicable. I actually got these back a week or so ago. First is Sandman #1. I bought this at my LCS back when it was originally released. I was hoping for a little higher than the 9.4 but that's ok. ![]() |

Next is San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. I picked this up the first year that I attended SDCC. This one graded just as I expected. I'll probably put it up for sale in the near future since I have another copy with a higher grade. ![]() |

These next books I've had for years. I believe that I picked up the newsstand copy when it was originally released. The direct edition I picked up sometime after that. I didn't have a real good feel for how either of these would grade. I think I'm the only one interested in this comic. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm saving the best (IMO, anyway) for last: Saga of the Swamp Thing 37. I love John Constantine. He's one of my favorite characters in comics. I was surprised with the 7.5 on the newsstand copy and I'll probably be posting it for sale in the near future. The 9.4 was a little better than I expected and I never expected to get the 9.8. All in all, I was very happy with all the books included in this submission and let me add my name to the list of folks liking the new cases and labels. Kudos to CBCS on both. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

@DWeeB1967 You're gonna make some folks jealous with all that yellow swampy Constantine goodness. I had an 8.0 for a while that I gave up on about 8 months ago and sold at MCS auction. I felt like Constantine had failed on both movie and TV opportunities. Really kind of wishing that I hadn't done that now.

Quote:Originally Posted by EbayMafia Thanks, @EbayMafia. Constantine is such a good character and there is so much that can be done with him. I keep hoping that Warner Bros. management will open their eyes and understand what they have in all of their more prominent suspense/mystery/horror characters. Maybe the Netflix Sandman series will help with that. Regardless, I'm really happy to have these books. |
