I lucked out and got this Batman book from an eBay seller who said he found it at an estate sale. It's in pristine condition with white pages!! I never thought I would find a copy in such nice condition. The same seller also had the Shazam book in the same condition and I now regret not buying it when I had the chance.

Measuring 16.5” by 11” this book is larger than a Treasury Edition. I purchased it directly from the company in Ontario, Canada that published it back in 1973. Anyone else ever see another copy?

My copy of Superman vs. Muhammad Ali is a little worn, surprising because I have never been able to read the entire story. Thanks to a manufacturing error, the pages run 1-8, 25-32, 17-56, 41-48, and 65-72. So I have never seen pages 9-16 or 57-64. I wonder if this comic is considered to be incomplete; it has the correct number of pages, but the missing pages were replaced with other pages. I have also not heard of any other copies with this error.

I have some treasury editions that I will post, hopefully tonight. But while rifling through the box i found this Wizard magazine, don't know if this fits the bill for posting here but I thought it was interesting.

Here’s another giant-sized comic that I sent away for using snail mail back in 1973. It’s just slightly larger than a Treasury.

The IDW Artist Editions and Artifact Editions are the best thing since sliced bread. Gosh I love them (but not the prices - else I'd get every single one)

It’s the only one I own but like the Wizard magazine, it had my favorite marvel team on the cover. X-Men rock!

Here we go, here’s my stash.

This Spider-man Treasury Edition is the only one I didn't personally buy, I traded for it as a kid. That's why it has a couple of issues but I still enjoy owning it.

One thing I've noticed and been surprised by, there cant' be that many Treasury Editions around, why aren't they more valuable? I see them at cons for anywhere from 15 to 50 dollars (depending on condition) but that's it. Why?

That's a great question. I wish I knew too. The only idea that comes to my mind instantly is their size. If something can't be neatly put in a comic size box, then it's seemingly not as attractive to many I suppose. If true, that'd be silly, but then again we're in a market where an image of spider-man on a CGC label increases the value of the product than the same label without a spiderman image. So that about explains everything.

A Whitman distributed copy. I didn't realize they did that with the treasury sized books.

I hadn't thought about that fact in years,I first noticed it when I bought it then again when I bagged it (about 9 years ago) and now today. it was Unusual for me when I saw it but I didn’t think it was unusual period. I only collected Marvel so I had nothing to compare it too. It is interesting, I wonder if there are others distributed by Whitman?

Most of the Treasuries I see at shops and cons are in mid-grade condition or worse. They are fairly easy to damage (thin cardboard covers) and they aren’t the easiest things to store properly. Some of them are fairly expensive, like the Superman vs Spider-Man and Superman vs Ali. Since they damage so easily, high grade copies are hard to find, and they can command higher prices. I have seen some on eBay that are over $500, but I don’t know if they get those prices for them. (Feel free to make me an offer on any that I post.)

Almost all treasuries are reprints and very few grade above 7.5 to most people. Hence lower prices, generally.

Whitman imprint exists for most treasuries, but mostly DC books. If you have Whitman Marvel (with actual Whitman logos) then you have an almost rarity but few people really care, yet.

I at least have one. I would think mine would also be a bit higher grade as I only read them once and was very careful because of their size.

@esaravo,

I wonder if it is worth the trouble to grade them? I am interested in selling mine also with the exception of Superman VS Spider-man. I would be curious to know what you get for them and if it is/was worth it to have them graded?

Also, most of the Treasuries I have seen have that tanned/brown effect that is most notable on the inside covers. It must have to do with storage/environment, but the 2 I bought off of esaravo are fairly white with no discoloration.

@brysb, I have not opened those books in over 30+ years, I should check the interior covers to see if the tanning is there (probably is as i live in the desert and have stored them in my garage). Thanks
