Help me make a choice! FF-67, FP-1, JO-13411059

I hear their hourly rate is outrageous! sportshort private msg quote post Address this user
I need your help folks, I am looking at 3 books that are for sale for 100 dollars each. My budget only allows for 1 of these books. I have been going back and for trying to decide and cannot make up my mind. I am looking at these more as a flip than as a keep (I have said this many times and ended up keeping the books) so I am looking at the best value possible and that's where you come in. I need help deciding which of these three books is the best value for the dollar. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

First book is Fantastic Four 67 graded 3.5

The next book is Forever People #1 graded 5.5

the last book is Jimmy Olsen #134 un-slabbed and ungraded but seems to be 3.5-4ish (maybe help with grade too)

FF #67 for sure. It has a few things that tie it to future Marvel movies (FF, Him) and (in my opinion) has the best chance of going up in the near future. The condition is fairly low, but from the blurry image, it actually seems to be a good looking low grade book.

@sportshort In searching for value I would eliminate the Jimmy 134 because you will likely need to spend $30 to slab it before you could resell it. It will have to increase about 30% in value before you could even break even. I think the FF 67 is best for potential. If you are buying locally without sales tax and shipping, it is probably within $10 of the expected price. If you are buying online and already have the additional fees, I would be patient and try to win a higher grade book at auction for a similar price. I suspect you could get a 4.5-5.0 for $125 or less in auction if you are patient. The lower grade (3.5) books have a hard time increasing in value because they show up at much greater rates when the higher grade versions start rising in value.

Comic link just had a FF 67 sell for $77 for a 6 slabbed so you could probably be patient and get a better deal, it would be my choice out of the 3 although I have to be honest I never liked the artwork on this book .

A lot depends on your motives...if you intend to flip relatively fast, by all means the FF book is a go to for that....but if you are into it for the long haul, the first appearance of Darkseid, and his first full appearance hold significant weight. There is supposed to be a new Gods movie in production and if DC doesn't quit on it like it has with so many other projects those two books are unrealized potential. I also tend to find DC books that are older seem more scarce than their marvel counterpoints ….I always like going against the general crowd...for me its the Forever people book, only because the olsen looks pretty rough compared

Thanks for the input. I’ve been looking for a couple of these books especially the FF 67 and the others for quite a while and these 3 are the best value I’ve been able to find. To be honest I was leaning towards the FF bit I wanted others opinions to see if they agreed since for me 100 dollars is the most I can spend at this time and I didn’t want to let a good deal go by. Unless I go completely bonkers I will probably by the FF. But may try a couple of other sites before pulling the truggger.

.
FP #1 has the only true first full appearance out of the three and also has the higher grade.

That’s what’s kept me from pulling the trigger on the FF. But it seems to be the higher retail Value to cost of the three but I like the higher grade and the 1st appearance stuff of the FP (hence my quandary)

I have a question, I have never purchased anything from Comic Link, what are the fees and downside? for instance, you said FF 67 fold for 77 dollars, what does that translate to as a total? 77 + tax + shipping + 3% (buyer's fee), am I missing anything else? is their shipping reasonable or exorbitant? will the 77 dollar book end up costing 150 dollars? just wondering if anyone can help with this? it it were ebay it would be 77+6.36 (tax)+14 (shipping)=97.36 (as an example). where does Comic Link land?

I’m not sure off the top of my head what all their cost are, I’m based in the UK so things are always expensive to ship , not sure how they stand domestically.
They are helpful though and if you have questions I would just e-mail them I’m sure they would be happy to help.

It's been a year or two, but the last time I won some books at auctions at Comic Link, they had a flat shipping fee of $20 for 1 to 10 books/slabs. They also charge a 3% fee on your Visa at payout. So if you only buy one book, the shipping cost might make it a better deal somewhere else.

@sportshort tax, shipping, and buyer's fee should be it. Shipping might be relatively more expensive than eBay, but it will definitely be packaged well.

@xkonk, Luckily for me when I've bought slabbed books on ebay they've come well packaged. I will hold off a bit longer, in case I should find a better deal but at this point I am going to go with the FF 67 for sure.

Marvel has a better track record right now with movie/tv tie-ins. Don't know when DC live movies will catch up. Joker was good, but it doesn't meld with the DC Universe. Animated DC is still great. Damn started with Batman: The Animated Series for me.

this is completely true but has little bearing on the comics themselves often. Noone cared about New God's 7 till justice league but off it went even though some people disliked the movie and the version of steppenwolf introduced in new God's 7 wasn't even used.
Huntress 1 prices jumped by announcement of birds of prey. The public is fickle. Marvel movies seem to get better reception but dc comics that introduce future movie properties still get their moment in the sun ,.Shazam anyone?

@sborock, you don't have on opinion as to which is the best book for the money? I understand if you don't answer my questions because if you do it is possible you will be badgered for advice form every forum member (including me, lol) or maybe you can't answer because you probably don't delve into such low cost, low grade comics. whatever the reason I understand, but still hold out hope for your sage advice.
