Can CBCS remove this sticker? The "30" sticker on the top right is stuck to the cover and I'm wondering if CBCS can remove it during cleaning/pressing in order to get a higher grade. Or is this not even worth it? Thanks for any help! |

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. | drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Sometimes when stickers get old the glue becomes brittle and the sticker will almost fall off of the book. Otherwise messing with a sticker like that is playing with fire IMHO. |

@wareure CBCS would not be able to remove the sticker. While they can dry clean and press books, removing adhesive materials is incredibly risky without using chemicals and CBCS wouldn’t want to put anyone’s books in that kind of danger

No comment about the sticker - just the phenomenal hand drawn work of Kirby's killer cover - the more you look, the more you see. Wow! Your giant size issue looks in great condition for 50+ years. Amazing how it avoided being rolled up & put in a back pocket to later be read in bed under the covers with a flashlight! -Thanks for the post @wareure - gl on the sticker.

You'd have to look for a "restoration" expert for that kind of removal - not CBCS.

Especially on the edge of the cover, and it being a black cover , it could be problematic. A lot depends how old and how well stuck it is....but you might be stuck with it.

Thanks so much, everyone! And thank YOU, kaptainmyke, for the DM giving me some instructions on how to do it myself! I got it off with very minimal damage! The Comics Code Authority symbol is now in full effect, mostly! Off for grading we go! Thanks again! |

Thank you sir. May I have another? | Siggy private msg quote post Address this user
Hopefully it didn't remove too much paper or print. Looks nice but it might still take a hit.

I'm not selling it anyway, and I'm pleased with the fact that there are no spine creases or art breaking wear, mostly. The scuff on the corner is not ideal, but it could have been worse. |

From CGC, a high grade book with a sticker on it is going to get a green, Qualified label. Which means the numeric grade would be unaffected by the book - but the label would be the Qualified label with the sticker being noted on the label text. CBCS does not have a Qualified label. The sticker will be treated as a defect when graded. No matter how nice the book looks, you are probably limited to a top grade of about 7.0. Keep that in mind when considering having the book pressed. If the book already looks nicer than 7.0, you are not likely to get any improvement in the numeric grade from pressing the book. As theCapraAegagrus mentioned, removing the sticker would be something best left to a restoration specialist. The results can be mixed and someone with that background will have a better idea of if the removal will be successful. Some of the potential problems include the adhesive of the sticker may leave a stain, where the sticker was at may look different than the surrounding area. And there is always a risk of removing a sticker - even by a professional - lifting some ink or leaving a stain or tide mark. @kaptainmyke - telling someone that removing a sticker is best left to a restoration expert is not discussing techniques. Discussing HOW and with WHAT a restoration expert might use to remove a sticker is discussing techniques. |

Where they don’t want their platform to host discussion that could damage a book? Not saying they are wrong to prohibit the discussion. Just wondering what their interest would be when it comes to removing a sticker, is all. |

Never mind. Went back and read it...pretty clear it’s a CTA rule, despite claiming no liability. *Discussing Alteration Techniques: Users may not share or otherwise discuss techniques for altering comics; including, but not limited to, restoration, pressing, cleaning, taping, or any other techniques that could result in temporary or permanent damage to a comic book. CBCS is in no way liable for any damage resulting from a user performing any technique they read or saw on the CBCS forum. |
