So recently, I purchased a piece of original comic art from an established website. It appears it might have been lost 'in delivery'. They are looking into it at their end but I am starting to get worried that this "one of a kind" piece of comic art (it was a cover piece) is either lost, damaged, or stolen. My friend said he ordered some figures from Texas and instead of arriving in California, was delivered into Arizona, where it is gone. He had it insured so he will get his money back and if I do not get mine, I am sure the company will refund my purchase price. But the thought of this piece winding up in the trash by someone who doesn't know what it is, makes me upset. What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought or ordered and it was lost in delivery? Let the painful memories begin. |

Not expensive, but I had a kickstarter fulfillment package that arrived empty. The USPS blamed it on the sender not taping it appropriately and the machine tearing it open. The box was clearly opened and someone stuck a small shred of tape back over the box flap so it looked "normal" for the rest of shipping. The sender sent it media mail with no insurance.

Quote:Originally Posted by roarzola The only thing I recall losing through the mail was a large shipment of BIN reprints of GA comics (public domain) from an eBay vendor several years ago. That was the fault of a mail handler failing to get a required signature and porch pirates. The reprints were replaced free of charge, the only loss being postage and that was either shared or covered by the seller. As for your concerns about unique original art winding up in the trash, ...odds are more likely that it’ll pop-up in an eBay, Heritage or ComicConnect auction at some point. ![]() ![]() |

This happened with the holiday exchange for the facebook group one year. After I had all the people matched up, I sent out the addresses. I messed up one of the addresses. Instead of an address like "101 main st", I sent it as "10 main st". It had tracking and showed that it was delivered. The only problem is that there was no such address. The person who was supposed to receive it wasn't that upset, but I felt really bad since it was my screw up. I commissioned an art piece from an artist friend of mine and had him send that to the guy as my act of contrition.

Early days of eBay i bought a golden/atomic age Phantom Stranger issue...from England. Insurance wouldn’t cover x-atlantic at the time. Never arrived; seller only gave me 50% refund. Pretty sure he just never mailed it.

Sorry for your loss @roarzola - hope it appears for you. For me just a minor glitch - Subscriber only copy of Empire magazine from England for Deadpool 1. The clown wrapped it in tissue thin paper. It tore coming across the pond (wot a surprise) so all that was delivered was an empty paper wrap. Funny guy made 1/2 good by sending the newsstand version and a refund. I ordered it at $20 before the DP stampede. Never did get that issue as price jumped to $50+.![]() |

Back in the 80's you could send away Proofs of Purchase from a cereal (can't remember which one) and get a Batman movie poster. My brother and I ate the cereal and sent the proofs in but never got the poster. Still pissed about that.

@GAC No sir. I sent them in to get signed and the post office said that I wrote down the wrong apartment number. Which I think was their mistake but I was dis-shuffled and I did check what the computer screen said when I pushed ok.

@GAC live and learn. I should of paid more attention to where it was going, I should of taken a picture of the box, and I should of made more of an effort to make sure it was delivered. I already have another fund going to replace the hulk. Just wish I didn’t have to buy it twice.

I sold $100 in challenge coins on eBay...stupid me I shipped them in a padded envelope with stamps for postage...no tracking, no insurance....i did wrap them up inside the envelope but the weight Of them must’ve sheared right through then envelope. Package arrived, but empty. I had no recourse but to refund the buyer in full and suck it up. Learned my lesson on that one.

I've had near misses where the post office completely changed the address provided to them by the seller (with the correct address on the box right next to the incorrect USPS label). Luckily I was able to get the address and drive out to pick up the book myself on multiple occasions from the very nice retired couple that know me now ![]() |
