I'm not going to get wired ... yet, so I'll just ask a question. Do others feel this 9.8 given grade is accurate? Pay close attention to the bottom right corner which I am unsure if part of the artwork or not. A simple "yes" (i.e. yes I agree it's 9.8) OR "No" (i.e. it is not a 9.8) will suffice. I'll see what the tally is later on. Then determine if I should get wired or not. ![]() ![]() |

Yes, I think it is part of the artwork. I take that back. Upon closer inspection, I do not think that is part of the artwork...NO

I believe I've heard people say that modern books and older books are graded differently. This looks like a case where this book being a 15 cent comic, it is a 9.8, but if it was a modern comic, it might only be a 9.2. Possibly?

. It’s a defect. Moreover, it also runs along the bottom edge. |

The OP appeared to have a concern with the bottom right corner. Compared to another 9.8 book on ebay, the corner looks as it should. No idea about the rest of the book. |

This is a horrible cover..I mean I love it... and just sent one in... but it is horrible because it is a black cover and with all the white cross hatching in the art work I really had to go over my copies with a magnifying glass to determine which was the better candidate to send in. Normally any defects just 'pop' on a black cover...not so with this one! |

I’d think it was a 9.6 based on that corner, but if that’s the only flaw, I could see them letting it slide. So, I’ll give you a “maybe”.

Yea... that's the comic. I guess I just don't understand how a corner crease can be a 9.8. If it's the artwork - obviously ok. But it looks like a 1/16" - 1/8" corner crease to me. |

$4000! and still charging $14.35 for shipping. For that much this comic would need to be hand delivered to me in person. Probably along with a whole bunch of other comics included for free.

Sorry folks - wasn't trying to knock anyone's ebay sale. I was merely trying to ascertain, generally, if 1/8" - 1/16" corner creases are allowable on 9.8. I guess I've been "schooled". They are. Unless this is a mistake grade, there is a difference in grading of Moderns vs. Older books in that this would NOT be acceptable on a modern |

It could be a crease, well camouflaged. The graders had the opportunity to see the reverse side of the corner before it was slabbed. Maybe saw no sign of a crease there. Either way, it does not appear to be a sharp corner. Not sure how that is weighed at the 9.8 level. It's too bad every slab doesn't come with grader notes. For modern comics that appear to be trying for a high 9 grade, the graders should be answering this specific question: "Why is this NOT a 10.0?" They could have preloaded text to just select or paste in - rounded corner at (location), loose (upper, lower) staple, spine tick (x how many), does not lay flat, etc. Then you would know specifically what they were taking into consideration besides general appearances. It might take an extra minute to load the info. Once it's slabbed, it's practically impossible to retrace the grader's steps without a bread trail. |

Based on the fact all 4 corners have minor damage, i think it should be a 9.6. Some could be akin to shaken book syndrome, so could have been 9.8, at grading.

Grading is subjective, so yes if that’s the ONLY flaw...I don’t know if it’s a crease or very slight blunting. Ives seem books with two spine ticks get 9.8s. I’d say this is not as bad as that. |
