Collector Rinova private msg quote post Address this user
I have been buying comics since late 80's but never really got into collecting until recently. I'm not sure what the FMV is for a NM AMAZING MARY JANE 1 ARTGERM 1:500 VIRGIN? Can someone help me? Thank you.

GPA only lists three versions

9.8 @ 36.00
9.8 virgin edition @76.00
9.8 Secret variant cover @ 60.00

Virgin variant for AMJ 1 has dropped way below 1/2 original retail. Think one LCS here recently sold a raw for $75

@Darkseid_of_town - Thank you. So I guess $150.00 is not FMV. LOL. Wow been seeing sales for this comic go for $200+ on ebay. Why are people paying so much for something that not FMV? Below is pics of the comic I was asking about.

I dont use gocollect but perhaps that app has different pricing which may/may not be making the book appear more in demand than possible....perhaps someone here that uses the service can chime in from that side of the discussion.
Some times a book will get hyped on facebook in some of the speculation groups and it drives sales a bit even though the book is perhaps static.

Also a lot of the time if retail outlets are still asking an insane price for a cover variant the price is hard to justify as being lower if you cannot buy it for less except secondhand....noone wants to admit the book isn't worth it so it sits there propped up by peoples unwillingness to admit they spent x dollars on a book worth only half that by market

@Rinova Only 1 sale through eBay.

GoCollect uses actual sales data. See below the only sale.

Gocollect claims to use actual sales data, and purports to link to those sales, but often the links needed to clarify the facts are broken and lead nowhere...just one of many complaints with the app.

Also they do use actual sales data, they simply select which data they choose to use...
i.e ebay sales are gathered for the app electronically, rather than sorting for false bidding, premature sale endings and other things which tend to affect the outcome.. which is numerous links end in broken results

I also believe if it’s a comic you really want and it’s in the condition that you want it in then you’re willing to pay whatever it takes to get it. I’ve done it before and then I have buyers remorse afterwards, that’s why this time I’m trying to do it right

You collect what you like and enjoy, but do so with a mind that todays hot flash in the pan is tomorrow dollar discount...I avoid the trendy flash books over time tried and sought out keys myself for that reason

or better, go with actual COMPLETE sales data...view what auctions houses are asking for a book, look at completed ebay sales, look at GPA to see what slabbed versions are selling for...or check Gocollect, as well, but use multiple VERIFIABLE sources where you can determine the validity and factuality of all the data you find.....find the traction point of the book where it sits vs sells, and then you can know fairly well what it is or isn't worth.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
You can also just search eBay for sold items. There aren't that many of the variant with no title on the clapboard (I guess that's the virgin variant?). Earlier in December/end of November it looks like a few sold for ~$200, yesterday one went for $150 at auction.

Thanks everyone. I’m going to wait it out and see if I can get it at FMV. I don’t want to have that buyer remorse feeling after purchasing it. The eBay seller is willing to sell it for $158 includes shipping but if I can buy it around $76 I need to wait. I’m going to ask my local shop next. Thanks again you guys are great.
