Weekly Cover Contest Discussion Thread10782

Collector michaelekrupp private msg quote post Address this user
Not a legal entry since it is not an actual cover in circulation but still pretty cool. The story behind this one is that Stan Lee vetoed this cover because he felt the logo was too obscured. Neal Adams didn’t take it well and it was a factor in his decision to leave the book.

For those who are still looking for a cover to enter, here’s two hints: Iron Man #7 and Aquaman #42. And there are still a few Batman ones too.

The Punch Comics on Post 21 is interesting for the era. On zoom I can see that some of the women are topless. It’s a 10 cent book, maybe 40’s or 50’s. Anyone know if they were sold on the newsstand?

If my submission is DQ’d I won’t get offended. I’ve never come close to winning so I just read the subject and grab the coolest cover I think of. I probably should read the details first.

@EbayMafia your submission is perfectly fine with me but I think technically Sauron is not a bird but it's a cool sub. 🍻

*pushes glasses up nose* Angel is a human mutant and Sauron is a human (not a mutant at all) who sometimes turns into some kind of pterodactyl thing, so neither are birds. Pterodactyls were also not dinosaurs, so I don't think they're a proper ancestor of birds.

Perhaps a more intriguing question... if Goofy is a 'person' but Pluto is a dog, how do we know if any cartoon character is a bird or not?

That is correct which is why it doesn't qualify but it's still a cool cover.

I think Goofy and Pluto are both dogs but Goofy is a more evolved dog...barely. Donald is a bird...I can't think of any less evolved birds in Disney.

Of course Donald is a bird.
Why they call it Barks Ducks
Duck is a bird.

I noticed Ricketts trying to squeeze by with a bird who’s actually a myth but is really just an alien who put Jean Grey inside a rock.

I've mentioned this before and it gets crickets...but why not a one-time Contest of Champions? Past winners can post up to 3 of of their favorite winners and we see what emerges as the all-time favorite? I have no winners but I would enjoy seeing a bunch of the best all in one thread.

Still crickets. Apparently I'm all alone on this island. My shame is too great to bear.

Sounds like you've planted the seed for a future weekly winner to post a "best of the best" theme. It doesn't have to be a one-off thing.

@martymann that's happened to me many times in the past.
I know you can post a cover you don't own.
I always post ones that I do though.
