PS - When I was around 10 or 12 years old I had a one speed (no speed?) bike with a coaster brake, a white banana seat with a padded chrome back pad, and motorcycle handlebars. I used to ride it down a wide stainless steel slide at the playground - don't know how I didn't get killed! When I got a little older, I had a 3-speed bike with hand brakes, and the handlebars were shaped into half a steering wheel. I used to ride a bike everyday as a kid.

Ed, my mom and dad ran an automotive parts store when I was growing up. I rode my bike EVERYWHERE for several years. I even made parts deliveries with it!! But one of my worst childhood memories involved my brand new Evel Kenievel bike with a banana seat. The parts store was right on main street in our small town. As was quite common then, each block had several trees planted in the sidewalk. There was one such tree right outside my parents parts store. I usually locked my bike to that tree. One day, I just leaned it against the tree because I was just popping into the store for a minute. When I came back out, my bike was gone!! I was crushed for months!! I got a different, not an Evel Kenievel, bike shortly after. That incident formed my opinion of thieves that I still have today. They are one spot above rapists and pedophiles.

@Jesse_O - I agree! But today, if a thief gets caught in the act, they scream that they were set up. If they were indeed set up, then they did it to themselves. But they refuse to take responsibility for they actions and place the blame on the victim.

How pathetic!

I can't think of anything in my collection that fits the bill this week. Like Siggy, every week I try to find something I own (or at least used to own and I have a scan of it) to submit. My oldest book is from 1947, and the majority of my collection is SA and BA. Would a 1950's Blackhawk comic count? That's about as close as I can get I think.

@Gotlift - Would a book from the 1970's that reprints stories from 1943 & 1944 and shows Nazis on the cover be acceptable, Tom?

I would have to say we need to stay in the golden age era. Sorry.

I post books I own. I did post a book I nearly bought years ago but changed it. I know you can post covers of books you don't own but I like posting ones I do. And for golden age world war two covers I only have 3 because they are covers by Alex.

These are the other 2.

My collection has only 800 books I think. Maybe way less haven't counted. So the pool is small to choose from. πŸ‘

324 pages and a great Santa cover!

How did this not get an entry? Golden age comics generally receive a lot of votes.

This is a suggestion for the ID this cover game. If everyone can remember, when you're present and playing the game, give each current clue one 'like'. This will give the clue giver an idea of how many people are currently playing so they can decide how frequent, and maybe even how tough they can make their clues.

Obviously 'liking' and old clue won't result in much, so just the most current clue.

Thoughts?

I try to leave fairly easy clues. I didn't realize how difficult the Spidey Super Stories 39 would be.

I'm still slapping myself for that one.

But whether the clues are easy or tough, if no one is playing and the clue giver posts several clues fairly frequently, the first person to return will have several clues to work with. Granted that can happen anyway, and often does in the mornings, but I think letting the clue giver know of their audience would be helpful.
Obviously it doesn't need to be a must. I'm just suggesting something for people to consider.

It's getting a little tougher to come up with unique contest themes..I don't think there's been an under water one yet...I checked the list and didnt see one specifically called under water.

@GAC - Week #8 was just β€œwater” and I remember a few gorgeous underwater covers, a Matt Baker one comes to mind.

mention of "under water" brings this cover and story to mind.

This could go in this weeks Wolverine cover contest and could go in the yellow cover thread.

If I win the cover contest I'm going to use this for my next contest. It will book end the "Your Favorite Cover" contest with "Worst Cover" contest. How do those claws fit in Wolverines' forearm?
