I need some advice on a first time situation I've run into on Ebay. A buyer paid for two buy it now items on September 7th and messaged me to hold them since he's considering other comics I have for sale so that shipping can be combined. We reached an agreement for 4 additional books for $190 and no additional shipping charge, but he has yet to order and pay for the comics, which are still listed for sale on Ebay. He also has been messaging me about 3 other books I have for sale and keeps lowballing me on the offer, even though I've already given him the minimum price I'm willing to sell all 3 for, both individually and as a lot.

The buyer hasn't responded to any of my other messages over the last week, asking if he intends to pay for the additional books he wanted or if I should continue to hold the items. My main concern is that he'll cancel the order and Ebay won't refund me the final value fee since the money from the 7th of September has already been transferred to my bank account. My other concern is that the buyer, will want to return the items, since he doesn't seem committed to the purchase. How long does it take to consider buying something? Especially since I've already given my lowest offer which is below fmv and won't cost him anything additional since I'll eat the extra shipping and insurance costs?

Should I just cancel the order at this point and block the buyer to avoid a potential headache?

@flanders

This may or may not be relevant. Ebay sides with the buyer if they are going to lose money. Even if they acknowledge you are right. They say it is the cost of doing business. This has happened to me and a friend.

Since they made me pay return shipping on top of the refund, I ended up losing a lot more than originally because the buyer threatened to reverse credit card charges and ebay wants to make money.

I'd say if the guy is unresponsive, refund and blacklist. You don't need the extra headache.

@flanders I agree with @Bronte. Eat whatever losses now to not deal with this nonsense later.

@Bronte @Studley_Dudley thanks for the feedback. The guy has been annoying over the last couple months, looking for a deal and messaging me offers, instead of making them on all of my listings that already have offers enabled. In addition, he hasn't responded to several messages over the last two weeks and even though he has paid for 2 of the items I don't care to ship up to 9 books, he said he was interested in.

abcorch_0 has been added to my blocked buyer's list. I hope the item I sold to him 5 months ago doesn't end up getting returned through Paypal, but it was a risk I was willing to take to no longer have to deal with someone so annoying.

@flanders yeah cancel, relist, and block. You will get a refund on the Final Value Fees from ebay. It doesn't matter if the money has been transferred to your bank.

@flanders I'm with @Studley_Dudley @DrWatson @Bronte Cancel and refund and cut your losses. For me, I have zero patience for anything resembling funny business on eBay....cancel, refund and block.

He's finally responded, asking why the order was cancelled. It only took a couple weeks. I think I'll take a page out of his playbook and not respond.

@flanders Depending on how you cancelled it the buyer might be able to leave negative feedback. I do that all the time for a cancelled transaction.

@Towmater there weren't many options, I selected damaged or out of stock. I picked the only lie that can't be verified by ebay and I won't be relisting the items.

As a seller, eBay only gives us three options when we cancel an order:
Out of stock or the item is damaged.
Buyer asked to cancel the order.
Something was wrong with the buyer's shipping address.

Buyer was a leaky vessel. Shallow waters were safe but once the deal got deep and complicated you were sunk.

This seller is definitely being added to my blocked seller/buyer list after listing this as a potential 9.8 after pressing:

He posted 7.5 as possible grade. But yeah, the 9.8 press is deceiving.

@EbayMafia

Some folks view pence copies as a plus.

Personally it's growing on me. After being pissed for years, my sole pence copy being tales of suspense 39 is now an oddity I don't mind.

@Bronte fair enough. But if you ever go to sell that book I bet you will mention the Pence variance in the title. To not do it would be a red flag regarding credibility in my opinion.

Yes. I would put in description that it was a rare pence variant and pray for the best.

@flanders - In fairness to the seller, if sent to a company other that CBCS, it does have the potential to receive a 9.8 grade. 😁😉

Bullshit.

@flanders Now to be fair, the seller isn't guaranteeing that it would be a 9.8 with a press, just that it could be a 9.8 with a press
